I’m hardly the expert but thanks for thinking so. smile.gif

For CCTV, you’ll need:
1. Public ip: for your house’s network to be aceessible from the Internet. Unifi not a problem
2. Dynamic DNS: UniFi’s IP changes periodically. Dynamic dns keeps track of this. Most routers can do this.
3. Port forwarding of whatever necessary ports from the router to the DVR.

That’s the most common way but exposes your DVR to the Internet. Another popular way is to setup a VPN server in your house then access the DVR using the VPN.
*
Thanks for the lesson. Will try to understand and try it out when I next go in to JB. thumbup.gif

Use No-IP.  They have a free tier and all you need to do is to confirm their domain name each month (as easy as clicking the confirmation link in the email every month and solve a captcha)  icon_idea.gif

I'm using it for my file server and it works brilliantly icon_idea.gif

Thanks very much, John & chocobo for the alert. Not sure if I understand enough about the DDNS. Will cross the bridge when time comes and seek to learn more from the experts in this forum who have selflessly helped novices like me.

That what I mentioned just now.

But those 'clients' are being lazy or they forget to renew it. Then they blamed me for taking their money and not doing my job. FARK them, they paid me RM50 only ONCE to setup CCTV, file sharing etc and want everything to be as cheap as possible. vmad.gif
How is it my fault when they didn't renew/confirm their domain name on NO-IP? I already told them about it. That what they will get for wanting free ddns service.

You haven't update your C1200 yet?

So.....I have been torrenting with 600 to 800 connections at 50Mbps for 5 hours.......

So far, the router still hasn't randomly restart yet.

Last time it auto-reboot randomly if total connection is more than 80.

Initial impression with this new firmware:
1) Fast bootup = 2 minutes
2) Can handle 800 connections from bittorrent client without random restart immediately (5 hours + and counting). Still waiting to verify if the random restart still happen......
3) -.- Hate the beta wording on background.....haha..... sweat.gif
*
Nah bro, I haven't even bothered as there's no point. When the Unifi installer left after setting up the C1200, I just take everything out and installed the C3150 v2 and it has been running smoothly ever since. But, since you said that this new firmware seems to fix the problems with the C1200, I am tempted to take it out and try installing this magical custom new firmware.

About the DynamicDNS section, most newbies tends to think the service is free.  doh.gif
We should inform him on such 'limitation'. dry.gif

I have few 'clients' who complained about the service ain't free even though I informed them about such service require subscription or mandatory login into ddns provider website every month if one wanna keep it 'free'.
*
Hahaha, I can totally relate to you bro. I have BOTH paid DynDNS and No-IP as I have two houses using CCTV, and gaming server, and so on, plus I setup for my other family member as well, so it is money well spent.

That is a pain bro. I pay for Enhanced No-IP for two years and don't even think about it anymore. It is not even expensive, and there is always offers from them to do so, with 25% and 50% being the most common ones around the time when there is a special US celebration.

Easy to understand bro. All you need to remember is that your IP address changes dynamically from time to time and DDNS helps you by updating the IP address on your CCTV server at your home, so that you can always view your CCTV remotely, as you can't view your CCTV anymore if your IP address change o something else.

I totally understand bro. Some of them want CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP but not willing to understand that it is a PAID service. My relatives are lucky that I help them to set up and use my DynDNS or NO-IP account to help them.

you need to check your cable, is it 10/100 on your PC or is it 1Gbps, bad cable will be megabit connection

My bro!!!! wub.gif

But you gotta deal with the BETA background, otherwise, it seems to fix the random reboot issue. (now 6 hours + and counting)
Don't forget to save the configuration to HDD first and restoring the configuration from the file once firmware update complete. Reconfiguring the router from scratch is a real pain. rclxub.gif
edit: Not sure if it is placebo or something, but the beta firmware seem to have lower latency than previous AUS/EU firmware. (Wireless to Router) Browsing internet....looks faster than usual? (incognito mode)

Speaking of ddns, some of them asked me to refund RM50 and one even called me a cheater. doh.gif
Some people is really.......sigh.....

OK now i understand. But even though still lesser than the limit, account still suspended after the 21days?
*
Don't think so.. Every now and then I missed payment.. Still not suspended after next bill out..

I think they just need time to process the bill.. So if your pay after 21 days, it will not recorded on the next month bill. But the next month..
