if not catalyst to push market to get a good bounce off from FBMKLCI above 1760 and close above 1770, then we are probably heading lower... this week is crucial.

Saw in news that the merger is all share swap deal...
EPF is the winner... Still would hold around 30% after merger.. The ANZ & Abbar will hold around 10% only.. So I'm guessing EPF might buy some of the stake from both parties too This post has been edited by nexona88: Jun 2 2017, 01:53 PM |

Even the medicine given is below par nowadays compare with previously.. Seems like the "power dosages" being reduced. The equipment is not maintain properly... |

QUOTE(voyage23 @ Jun 2 2017, 10:52 PM) Erm off topic, but the truth is more and more people are going government hospitals because they face shortage of funds, not the government. Not true that we are facing any significant shortage. I serve in the government hospital Actually I agree with voyage23. Maybe you (Avangelice) is in Kuching. You don't see KV govt hospital and clinic. Always full. Full of people. Min waiting time 2 hours. This post has been edited by Ramjade: Jun 3 2017, 12:39 AM |

Can any sifus here open up my mind?
Scicom have a market price of 2.32, but a Book Value or NTA of 0.29. However the book value was growing year by year. ROE of 5 years average is 33%. Debt to equity ratio is 0.00. From these facts, how do sifus explain the low NTA value in comparison to market price? My conclusion is 1. Maybe Scicom is being goreng to too high market price 2. The nature of the business require little assets and doesn't require owner to take loan to grow the business. No debt, little assets, and book value become low but ROE still able to remain high. 3. They issued too many shares but do not practice share buyback. Outstanding shares increase, book value decreases. Am I correct? On one hand, conclusion number 1 make me want to stay away from it. But on the other hand, the consistent high ROE and high EPS growth rate (25.84% 5 years growth rate) make me want to invest in it. Based on these facts, will sifus invest in Scicom for long term? If yes or no, why? This post has been edited by Nemozai: Jun 4 2017, 01:06 AM |

QUOTE(Nemozai @ Jun 4 2017, 12:49 AM) Can any sifus here open up my mind? Generally, as a rule of thumb, you can say that for a company with a long-form ROE of 10%, the P/BV will roughly be around ~1.0X. However, from here on out, there is an exponential relationship between ROE and P/BV. So say a company with a long-form ROE of 20% may have a P/BV of 3.0X, and a company with a long-form ROE of 30% may have a P/BV of 6.0X etc. Scicom have a market price of 2.32, but a Book Value or NTA of 0.29. If yes or no, why? For SCICOM over the past 2 years it has consistently got an ROE of ~42%. It's P/BV is 8.0X. I think it's an OK price. May even be undervalued. But I have no idea about future outlook since that's always priced in. Personally, I never invest in these types of companies. Cause there is very little downside protection. The moment ROE tumbles P/BV will also fall hard. I rather invest in "fallen giants" with depressed valuations or "growers" with undemanding valuations to protect myself on the downside. But really, you need to do your own research, cause SCICOM may fall under the "growers with undemanding valuations" category. |

What do you guys think about Tenaga Nasional? It remains to be one of the stock with the LARGEST divergence in current market value vs Bloomberg consensus (Bloomberg is at 20% above CMV). https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/b9900a_64ee8...99b18b35947.pdf
All the major research houses - Maybank, AmSec, CIMB, Kenanga etc - have it as a top buy. My question is...Tenaga is effectively the second largest company in Malaysia by market cap. How can there be such a large divergence? Shouldn't all the good and bad be priced in? Reading the analyst reports it seems like only the bad is priced, the good not yet. And YTD Tenaga is in negative territory vs most other major KLCI stocks which are up. This post has been edited by contestchris: Jun 4 2017, 05:02 PM |

All the major research houses - Maybank, AmSec, CIMB, Kenanga etc - have it as a top buy. My question is...Tenaga is effectively the second largest company in Malaysia by market cap. QUOTE(nexona88 @ Jun 4 2017, 06:14 PM) Well u cannot go wrong with Tenaga.. Actually Tenaga owns 80% of SESB (Sabah Electricity). There's no others companies supply Electricity to our home. I mean for Semenanjung Malaysia Sabah & Sarawak got their own company.. Buy yeah I get that Tenaga is one of those secular growth companies in Malaysia. Lean balance sheet, 50-70% retained earnings for future growth from net profit (one of the highest in the KLCI), foreign acquisition, aim to be Top 10 power utility by 2025 in terms of Market Cap (currently no. 18). I bought when it was at 1.42X BV @ 13.68, I think that was neither too low nor too high. If however it does hit RM17.00 within the next one year I will sell it and lock my profits in, and then buy again when it eventually dips. QUOTE(contestchris @ Jun 4 2017, 04:54 PM) Generally, as a rule of thumb, you can say that for a company with a long-form ROE of 10%, the P/BV will roughly be around ~1.0X. However, from here on out, there is an exponential relationship between ROE and P/BV. So say a company with a long-form ROE of 20% may have a P/BV of 3.0X, and a company with a long-form ROE of 30% may have a P/BV of 6.0X etc. Thanks a lot. I still got a lots to learn from sifus here |

QUOTE(dontlosecapital @ Jun 6 2017, 05:07 PM) Bro, i still got a bit blur blur.. Quoted from Cherroy from https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4082264/all You can read more there. Sorry for asking again.. I make an example.. If let said tmr I buy tienwah at 2.13, dividend exp is 7th june, dividend field i get is 0.08 / 2.13, which is about 3.75%.. If i hold until 7th, and sell at 8th ? Will i still get my dividend? Because i see entitlement date for tienwah 09 jun... What is the usage of entitlement date ? Please help.... thanks... QUOTE Entitlement date is the date for company share registrar to look for the list of shareholders in CDS to determine the eligible shareholders. Due to the fact share is not immediate transferred into our CDS whenever we trade share, it only incur after 2 days later, hence ex-date is "created' so that investors/traders in the market can know the last day they need to buy/have the share, in order to appear in the company share registrar book. Summary, Ex-date is the Cut off date for share trade. Entitlement date - company registrar look for shareholders list for eligibility. So the answer is yes, you will still get the dividend for Tien Wah if you hold until 7th and sell on 8th June. This post has been edited by Vanguard 2015: Jun 6 2017, 05:42 PM |

IMHO, there are a few rules of thumb for long term investment:- 1. Don't watch the stock price after you bought the stock. Watch what the company is doing. 2. What is the future earnings or growth prospect of the company? 3. As long as the fundamentals of the company are OK, you should keep the stock. I will take some stocks in my portfolio as an eg:- Stocks / Unrealised Profit 1. AirAsia 15.782% 2. Cocolnd 20.113% 3. GKent 18.338% 4. Johotin 18.393% 5. KESM 41.591% 6. MPI 26.398% 7. OldTown 17.546% 8. Superln 29.953% Should I sell the above stocks since I have made some profits? The answer is no since I am doing it for long term investment. I will keep the stocks as long as the fundamentals are intact and I bought it with a margin of safety (i.e. when they were undervalued). If we keep on trading or overhauling our portfolio frequently, the only person who will be rich will be our remisiers. We need time to let the money tree grow instead of pulling out the roots when the tree is growing. P/S: Sorry for this long winded post. I had a few glasses of wine pre-dinner. |

I know all sifus here stress on fundamental. Me too. But I want to ask do you guys really calculate the intrinsic value of those strong fundamental companies ? All those I learn from US books to calculate intrinsic value is not useful here in Bursa Malaysia? Most counters sifus mentioned here have strong fundamental I agree. But if I calculate the intrinsic value, most of them is overvalued. I expect 10-15% annualized return with my intrinsic value calculation. Am I doing smtg wrong? I'm quite lost.

For me, I check fundamental. If it's solid, then I use google finance 5 years to see. Sometimes need to buy high as some prices never come down again. I am more of dividend investor. QUOTE(Vanguard 2015 @ Jun 7 2017, 08:23 PM) You are welcome bro. I am happy you are making money. Please keep NHFatt for now. It is not meant for short term trading but long term investment. switching portfolio and taking profits is one of the strategy in term of investing...I don't have a target price for NHFatt. |

QUOTE(river.sand @ Jun 8 2017, 10:08 AM) You use DCFA? How do you determine the discount factors and predict future cash flow? Maybe you can show us an example. I use EPS and dividend payout based on past 10 years to get total estimated return. Then use this formula to get a, R=ar^(n-1). And then discount it by 25% to get fair value. Then I use 2nd fair value which I get by discounting 33% from 52weeks highest and lowest's difference. Only when my stock price fall below both fair value I will buy it.In any case, even with PEG method, not easy to find undervalued stocks in Bursa at this time. Yes. Exactly. This is my point, if we can't find undervalued stocks in Bursa at this time, what should I do ? Die die also invest by just looking at fundamental? Or I wait? But then I read a quote which state that time in the market is more important than timing the market. Sifus can advise me what to do? Or is my method wrong? Can sifus tell me was there a time in history where we could find such good and undervalued stock in Bursa Malaysia? Can point it out so that I can do some research on that period so that I know I will not be waiting for nothing? This only happen when this thread suddenly become quiet? I assume the 25% is margin of safety. In Malaysian market, you can hardly get anything with 25% MoS. Recall that Warren Buffett said: It's far better to buy a wonderful company at fair price, than a fair company at wonderful price. So for wonderful companies, you may want to use a smaller MoS. Other things we can do: - search for undiscovered gems (not easy though) - invest in overseas' market If you are not comfortable investing in foreign stocks directly, try unit trust. |

Given I just started investing at the start of this year, can any sifus here give comment about my choices and returns, and future prospects of my holdings?
Because my portfolio weighting has a heavy tail (earlier purchases small amounts, later ones have larger amounts), I will list them down below. Plus, my earlier purchases have been my best performers, my latter ones are rather flattish. Date | Counter | Transaction price | % of portfolio on cost basis 3/1/2017 Armada - 0.605 (4.7%) 10/2/2017 Armada - 0.63 (4.1%) 27/2/2017 AirAsia - 2.67 (3.8%) 3/3/2017 Ikhmas - 0.57 (6.1%) 13/3/2017 Esceram - 0.465 (5.3%) 7/4/2017 Parkson - 0.64 (14.3%) 21/4/2017 Tenaga - 13.68 (28.6%) 15/5/2017 Hevea - 1.29 (18.1%) 26/5/2017 Ikhmas - 0.74 (SELL ALL) 7/6/2017 Tchong - 1.82 (15.3%) My gross returns (before fees) are 6.97% and my net returns are 5.34% using the basic returns calculation formula. If I use a XIRR formula the returns are much higher but I don't think it's fair to use that. My next move would be to sell off AirAsia (since it makes up such a small, insignificant portion of my portfolio). I will also look to top up on Parkson and/or Tchong depending on a wide-range of factors (none of my other holdings will be topped up at current values), or look to expand my portfolio with prime candidates being Mhb, Tambun and Prlexus. I truly do regret my inability to buy Prlexus when it was lower. I always stalled and stalled, then when I wanted to make a move the price always moved up. So maybe this one has got away from me yet again (after it suffered the drop recently due to Shariah non-compliance). This post has been edited by contestchris: Jun 10 2017, 02:57 PM |

Bad year for REITs. But if die die also must buy, then have a look at PavReit. But I think must hold for another 1-2 years before there will be any movement.
Better option is to buy TENAGA. |

I think I am changing my mind selling it for my proposal and sell AAX insteadBetter option is to buy TENAGA. |

QUOTE(djhenry91 @ Jun 14 2017, 10:16 PM) normally got people see tht jus compare this year quarter and last year quarter? An answer for your question from another thread i see like mcam misleading wor.. QUOTE(Boon3 @ May 26 2017, 04:30 PM) Most common mistakes I've seen is people tend to do Q-Q comparisons. Comparisons should be made Y-Y. You have a company who sells toys to the US. Now in the US, sales peak for the Christmas/holiday period. So customers usually order in maybe Aug or earlier to make sure they get their holiday sales all prepared. So this company exporting to US, it's surely gonna have seasonal characteristics. So if one to compare say Q1 to Q2... they would definitely get a massive distortion. It's same with most of business locally. There's always some sort of seasonal characteristics. This is why people compare Y-Y. |

Just entered SWKPLNT 5135 for low risk high reward bottom fishing trade, 1.7 should be taken out to propel to 1.8 area. With a 10% target should be quite conservative in view of high earning performance.

I am queuing up to top up on Poh Huat and YSPSAH. Poh Huat is rising slowly whilst YSPSAH is being bashed down.
Also queuing up for Sunway and Luxchem. But looks like no chance. the prices are rising too fast! Sunway has gone up about 7.5% whilst Luxchem has gone up about 4.3%! |

QUOTE(icechiller555 @ Jun 15 2017, 03:35 PM) Valuation wise Luxchem is still cheap. I bought it today at RM1.96. The TP by Kenanga is RM2.30. But Mr. Market can be weird sometimes. As long as you can hold it beyond T+3, you should be OK. Note : Luxchem has broken the resistance of RM1.87. It should still be on an upward trend tomorrow if it supported by high volume. Not sifus but I can share.I always compare Y to Y, then second come Q to Q. First, I use stockscreener with such criteria ROE >15% Debt to equity < 0.5 Current Ratio > 2 Price to Book < 1.5 These criteria will left you with less than 20 counters, if not zero counter. But those company will have best fundamental. Second, I calculate intrinsic value and fair value to see when I will go in those counters. Then only I will study about the company. Possibly none left to study For me, there's no single most important value to evaluate a company performance, it's a combination of various values and factors. I'm still learning. Can play with this free stock screener. I myself still not so sure about this, can any sifus provide your valuable opinions? A. Good company, good price. B. Good company, not so good price. C. Don't invest, wait for them to dip to good price. But Gods know when? Maybe it will never happen. You are losing time. A is number one choice for me. But again, it's hard to find like a rare gem. So next what will sifus choose? B or C? This B or C really make me headache. This post has been edited by Nemozai: Jun 16 2017, 02:48 PM |

QUOTE(lowya @ Jun 16 2017, 03:57 PM) i have to ask, you ignore PE in your screening? Yes I purposely ignore PE. Because it varies quite significantly between industries. This is for screening. For calculating intrinsic value I did include average 10 years PE. In short, I don't use it for screening, but I did use it when calculating my intrinsic value. And I average 10 years PE.Edit: i guess you have included PE < 10 with above 2 parameter. Screening is for fundamental. For this I really focus on fundamental only. Calculating intrinsic value is to get fair price to enter. In my opinion, average PE work better here in valuation step. What do you think? I did look at increasing EPS at my third step, which is when I plan to dive deeper into the company. What I find was that with these criteria, almost all the companies I got have increasing EPS for past 10 years. Guess that's really how a good fundamental company will get increasing EPS most of the time? This post has been edited by Nemozai: Jun 16 2017, 04:26 PM |

I know it may fail to give me 10-15% return, for example in case the company I invest suddenly bankrupt but to the very least it's expected return must be 10-15%, not less. QUOTE(Nemozai @ Jun 16 2017, 02:33 PM) Not sifus but I can share. thanks for sharing,First, I use stockscreener with such criteria ROE >15% Debt to equity < 0.5 Current Ratio > 2 Price to Book < 1.5 These criteria will left you with less than 20 counters, if not zero counter. B or C? This B or C really make me headache. i using klse screener |

QUOTE(Nemozai @ Jun 16 2017, 04:24 PM) Thanks Ramjade. With increase EPS, DPS should increase if the company is generous. I am investing for income so dividend is very important to me.I find something interesting. I did look at increasing EPS at my third step, which is when I plan to dive deeper into the company. What I find was that with these criteria, almost all the companies I got have increasing EPS for past 10 years. Guess that's really how a good fundamental company will get increasing EPS most of the time? You may want to look at this. Was using this. then I modified it myself. http://tubinvesting.blogspot.my/2016/05/tr...ersion.html?m=1 For Dividend investing http://tubinvesting.blogspot.my/2016/09/th...ortion.html?m=1 QUOTE(dontlosecapital @ Jun 16 2017, 06:08 PM) Technical analysis where you look at those red green graph, draw lots of line and try to predict where it's going based on pattern. This post has been edited by Ramjade: Jun 16 2017, 06:18 PM |

QUOTE(lowya @ Jun 16 2017, 04:36 PM) i mean based on the screener you shared, do you look for the company earning growth, as there is a filter on that. I didn't use earnings growth to screen(my first step) company. But I do use earning growth to calculate intrinsic value (my second step). Interesting fact is that even without putting earning growth in the stock screener, most of the stock counters that I got from that few criteria I listed usually have positive earnings growth. My method of valuation (second step) do require positive earning growth. With 0% or negative earning growth I can't estimate their intrinsic value, so I'll usually skip them. So I would say at least 1% for earning growth rates. But I think it won't make a difference to the list of stock counters that I get from stock screener. What's your opinion? So, i guess it end up would be same if one simply filter for positive earning growth in step one. But for me i screen for technical as first step broadly, second step to verify whether fundamental fits my min requirements, because to me priority is risk control (or market timing) > selecting good company. At the point of fund availability, I look at what satisfy both my risk control and fundamental assessment and enter accordingly with tight sl. My method will not let me find the greatest stock in bursa, but most likely it will let price move in my favor most of the time to allow tp. |

Can you briefly tell me? I want to learn too. briefly, you want to calculate drawdown between current price to fractals or moving average or previous resistance, whichever that previously responded well to derive the % risk. This method assume that most fundamentally good stocks would have moved hence technical risk would be rather high, so you could enter choosing the least risk among preciously filtered fundamental stocks basket. You wait patiently, if nothing within your defined risk factor, you stay out from market, sit on your itchy hands. I want to make it clear. Trader: Look at price movement and do technical analysis only, ignore fundamental completely. Value investor : Find best company (best fundamental), then try to find intrinsic value (to look for entry price) You: Try to find best price (with technical analysis), then enter if fundamental is strong, do not enter if fundamental is not strong. Am I right? Nowadays you cannot define what trader or investor do exactly, they have each of their styles depending to their priority, risk appetite, fund size, investment timeframe, etc. In the end, the question you have to answer is what is your comfortable method that you feel most reasonable within your restrictions. But if you are a fund manager, first priority for you is manage your risk, fundamental/technical/market risks. |

If it drops another 10%, then maybe I will buy Trying to keep more cash pending the General Election. The rumour is that it will be held in Sept/Oct this year. soli.. newbie here... QUOTE(yw188 @ Jun 23 2017, 04:40 PM) I don't know the answer. Some factors to consider:-1. Will BN win or lose? 2. Will BN win with a 2/3 majority? 3. Will there be any trouble if BN fails to secure a 2/3 majority or if there is a change in government? 4. Will there be a change of PM after the GE if BN wins? Who is the next PM? 5. Will foreign investors exit the market after the GE if there is instability or uncertainty? Some other factors to consider:- 1. Will Trump get impeached? 2. Will 1MDB still continue to haunt us and affect the perception of investors towards Malaysia? This post has been edited by Vanguard 2015: Jun 23 2017, 05:10 PM |

QUOTE(imran @ Jun 29 2017, 05:14 PM) i just registered CDS acc and learn little bit with this industry. I am also a beginner only. I think you better ask the sifus here. But my 2 cents view are:-as a newbie, what are the factors before Buy stocks ? 1. Have an emergency fund of at least 3-6 months of your monthly expenses before thinking about investment. 2. Make sure you invest with money that you don't need for the next 1-2 years. You don't want to sell your shares just because you need money to repair your leaking roof. In that case, the rain is determining the timing when you sell your shares. Bad idea. 3. Buy a good investment book to read like:- a. One Up On Wall Street by Peter Lynch b. Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits by Phillip A. Fisher c. The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing (5th Edn) by Jason Kelly d. Rule #1 by Phil Town 4. If possible, start off with unit trust investment first like Fundsupermart. Start with RM5K or RM10K. Learn to control your emotions and see how you will react when you see your unit trusts rise and fall. This will help you when you invest later in the stock market and you see your stocks' value rise 20% or fall 20%. 5. Factors to consider before buying stocks? a. Are you buying for trading or investment? I am not a good trader or chartist, so I can't comment much on day trading. For mid-term to long term investment, I quote Phil Town on Rule # 1 on investment which are the 4 M's. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Good luck in your investment journey! Remember. It is a marathon not a 100m sprint. |

Any idea how the ICPT will impact Tenaga? Will it cause the stock to re-rate upwards by the market? Was it a potential downside risk previously?

QUOTE(shankar_dass93 @ Jul 3 2017, 09:15 AM) I did a quick search again on TENAGA. The valuation is great. Fundamentals is OK but could be better. If you can't find a better horse to buy and you have the stamina to hold TENAGA for another 1 year or so, then why not? |

The forms will automatically be printed in three (3) copies, except for the Application for Reactivation of CDS Account form, which will be printed in two (2) copies. The forms, including copies, must be signed. For new accounts, the Application for Opening of Account form must be submitted to the stockbroking company where the depositor intends to open the CDS account. For other transactions, depositors are required to submit the forms to the stockbroking company where the CDS account is maintained. Depositors are advised to read the instructions printed on the last page of the forms carefully prior to completing the forms. Was Mplusonline a stockbroking company? What was CDS? I thought if trading online we will no need remiser? I dint know that stock trading can leverage - but i dont want leverage on stock cause it can sudden drop half price a day What was T7? If Dividend day were Tomorrow , and i bought the stock today , did i get the dividend tomorrow? Can i know how you guys trade? By chart? or just fundamental of company and current economy plus index? |

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Jul 4 2017, 10:03 AM) I am sharing this out to anyone who's interested. I ran out of ammo for this month. I bought Hevea at a local minima in May at 1.29. Decent returns (including dividend) in a short span of time but this was a serious investment after lots of study and I personally am certain it will hit 1.80-2.20 within 12 months. I wait till then, maybe keep holding more if the fundamentals have improved. Only sell when story has changed.
HeveaBoard_20170704_HLIB.pdf ( 753.66k )
Number of downloads: 67Now to wait for Tenaga to wake up; for Tan Chong to bring new models and begin the turnaround; and Parkson to match the valuations of its two listed subsidiaries (with 30% holding col discount). I also have smaller positions in Bumi Armada, ES Ceramics and Airasia. Looking to buy Prolexus, MMHE and Tambun Indah, or top up Parkson and Tan Chong. |

QUOTE(contestchris @ Jul 5 2017, 07:16 PM) What's your target/aim/thesis? You still see upside despite the recent rally? Short term holding, or mid/long term? I'll be buying it the next round I save enough. I already have an electronic manufacturing company - VS industries and want to get a furniture production company - HEVEA |

This is not a goreng stock. Based on Absolutely Stock, Valuation = 2.4/3. Fundamental = 3/3. Based on my other research, HEVEA is currently selling at a discount. There is still MOS (Margin of Safety). It has better MOS compared to Inari or OldTown. These are the 2 stocks which I hope to sell soon. |
