well i wouldn't use the word "abundant" la haha. I'm a UTP student and the other day I was speaking to our petronas rep and he said they're still hiring a lot of PE

Any HR Petronas in the house?
Just want to ask, I asked for my SI to be rescheduled when HR called me last month, due to my current job commitment. But never get the feedback since. Is it true that my application has been back to the bottom of the list of applicants? sad.gif

Hi bro azraeli, nice to see you back again! smile.gif judging from what you just mentioned, what position does petronas has shortage(ciritical shortage) now? Since PE is abudant in supply alrd for them(UTP grads, overc grads) ? Are they still having shortage for geologist/geophysicist? Bcos i wouldnt want to study PE and if i were to come back, the job market is already overloaded. :S

Both are critical skills not only in Petronas but in the O&G industry as a whole. I always find that PE gets more exposure to the whole field development chain so I have always beena bit biased in my advice for people to go for PE. Now for PE, since it's an engineering degree, you need to really buck up and study as the competition is fierce. I find the benchmark for hiring Geologist is a bit lower. Heck we even took someone with a CGPA of 2.2 because try looking at rocks for 4 years and you'd go cuckoo too. Last I heard, the guy we hired is doing well so there you go. In Petronas however, PEs are always the one who gets to be the team lead on any project so if you're looking at management side of things in the future, then PE is the way to go.

hi all, just want to ask on behalf of my brother. let say we already have a report date mention in offer letter (say 1st of July), which is only 1 week away, can we postpone to later date, due to health reason? my brother already got his offer letter, but right now he might need to be hospitalize due to dengue.

appreciate your feedback on this matter.

hi there,

let say I'm bonded with PETRONAS and my contract say I need to work with PETRONAS for 10 years, and if I wish to jump for other company after a few years working with PETRONAS, do I have to pay the amount exactly what I owed them even before I joined PETRONAS?

thanks.

Not sure about current policy but previously, they will pro-rate based on the amount of time that you have served the bond.

Have you read your agreement? They have every rights to consider you breaching contract = full payment. but usually you can appeal and its up to them to decide. or you could contact esu to arrange for payment based on your result, e.g 2nd class upper =10% , but don't tell em you are quitting wink.gif. when your arrangement of repayment is approved u can quit.

As per my previous exp , nvr heard abt prorated to years of svc

As of 2007, Petronas was still using the prorated per years of service. I believe they may have changed that now.

Azraeil, since 2007? Hmm i wonder why few of my friends were being slapped with warning letter regarding breach contract then appeal.

thanks mangoman ! did not hear from any resigning colleague recently.

Maybe they are now accepting the fact that they could not keep their scholars forever or at least 10yrs .

So still pro-rated. Which is fair enough. But if Petronas spent 1 million on your scholarships, then even after serving 8 years, that 20% pro-rated is still brutal. This is especially true to those scholars who goes to the US/AUS/UK ..... Tution Fees and Boarding Fees alone is close to 50K USD/year and if you include the monthly living allowance ... can go up to 60K a year, so if you spend 4 years plus 2 years in Foundation at MSM Banting, that could cost upwards of 1 million ....

The scholars will be given a coice of 5 unis to apply to and Petronas will have the final say where they should go. CSM, Texas Austin are usually top notch schools for PE and will be in the lists. Not all will be accepted and CSM is bloody expensive. Tuition fees etc will cost upwards of 55K USD per year.

yeah..colorado is like the harvard for petroleum engineering. I shut that out of my choice once i researched on the fees, cheaper and value-for-money unis are good enough for poor chaps like me. sad.gif

I guess you were from one of these schools too? wink.gif texas Austin is super good but bloody expensive. Same goes with Colorado school of Mines. I wonder why CSM charges such an exorbitant rate to their students since its a publich research uni, thought it should be cheaper, compared to other private unis like the Ivy leagues : harvard, Dartmouth etc etc.

Nope, I went to a State School in the Mid-West. Cheap and had loads of fun (too much fun actually). I got accepted to John Hopkins but decided not to go there because

1. It would be bloody expensive (though I was not paying it ... but had this thought that I "may" not want to work with Petronas for so long) and my 18 year old mind wanted to have a bit more fun than going to school with super geniuses in JH.

The total cost for the state school was less than RM180K at the time (or was it 150K) but guess what happened, I spent my entire 10 year bond with Petronas tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif so lesson learned, never trust an 18 year old person can make good judgement heh heh heh ...... (that's probably why Petronas now has the right to choose which unis you go to)

But still, I had loads of fun in my uni and I didn't turn out too bad biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

At here, we almost have 2-3 senior engineers resign every month. Sigh. Talking about staff retention program.

How to retain when they will be offered double or triple their compensation with Middle-East companies etc?
