I would attend because the chit chat thing is not a commitment or anything. Not attending it shows you are disinterested with PETRONAS (not just the research side) and if I know how Petronas works, the don't take this kind of slight lightly. There is no harm going but possible harm not going ....

Petronas Research now concentrates mostly on doing research and I believe one of their thrust is now doing Enhanced Oil Recovery. I was in PRSS (the SS is probably gone now) for 7 years and it was a good and laid back place. There is a huge core lab and PVT lab as well and I think they should be able to do SCAL work as well. So in terms of fundamental PE work, that is a good place to be. They are also one of the units task with ensuring the Chemical EOR project in Angsi is successful so that would be exciting.

I have known (myself included) several PRSB staff who gained their experience there and then moved to Operating Units like Carigali and even PMU and moved on to become expatriates.

I remembered it being separated from the PE Skill group previously or maybe it was just the unit in PCSB that was separated. I would suspect that it will be under SG-10 so you should be in Tier 1 (if they still have that tier thingamagic), I've heard of a lot of policy changes lately that is causing some distress amongst staff.
