Well I was offered verbally during the first few minutes of the SI. However, the official offer was only made by the HR about two to three months after that. So, go figure.

However, in their defence, Petronas really does interview lots of candidates so it really takes quite sometime to get back to each candidate. So, patience is key smile.gif

Hope the interview turned out well smile.gif

Thanks you I really hope that I can get this Job.. As far as I know the interview seems fine, most of their question is not so difficult to answer and HR guy who was part of the interviewing panel told me that it will take 1 month to get the result... So it only means their selection period is so long ang their trying to get the best of the best among the candidates ..

Hi,

i got call from HR Petronas last week asking me to come to SI on the very next day. But I ask to postpone and rearrange the date for SI on the first or second week of July due to my current job commitment. He said okay and will inform me once confirm. But since, the HR never call back to confirm on this.

Did I just blew my chance? As I heard that HR will not entertain candidates whose asking for rearrange date or something like that.

So did you get any call from pet HR ?

what you're saying is true for most companies, but not petronas.

they seldom advertise vacancies with the job scopes. even during the interview, the hiring manager and HR would explain only the overview of the job scope as there too many possibilities on which position they will give you. Even the offer letter doesn't specifically mention what the job scope would be. Mechanical Engineer? in what area? Drilling? Static? Rotating?

you'll only know what your real work scope once you meet your superior on your first day of work.
*
i'm not sure whether current practice is either the hiring manager is not telling you much or the candidates are nervous or not sure what to ask.
hiring managers usually the technical manager for the department, while there might be E3/TP Staff will be your immediate superior.

offer letter will of course usually specify your title (unless its a seeding position) as HR only takes the box position from org chart.

maninyellow not many JV plant environment in petronas , locally.

chibimoon yes, there are challenging posts, technically, physically, mentally challenging. but the mentality of being inefficient are abundant across the BU. meetings day in day out. even meetings scheduled after office our as the dept head is too busy meeting during normal office hours. meetings and discussion for a discussion that can be made in 10-15 minutes between the mgrs but need meetings to ensure decision is accepted unanimously for future taichi.
and these middle managers that is not technically competent enough that needs their E2/E1 to stayback at office , to standby for meeting for nothing. Very, very inefficient i would say. sooner or later, it will become a typical bumiputra company.

how about the common food fest in each department pantries , every Friday where time for break spent more than working. each OPU has this practice, based on my observation.

from top to bottom , if not improved, PETRONAS will sink one day.

Lama tak visit this thread. Been superbusy these past couple of months

yogurt7 Congratulations. The journey in joining is almost complete and now a new adventure awaits.

PIPE or Induction Programe as it was called when I was there is fun fun fun. Many a Petronas staff have met their spouse there as well tongue.gif so watch out for those potential mates heh heh heh especially those from Corporate Planning and CDU (Corporate Development Units)

For those applying or in the process of applying ... Good Luck icon_rolleyes.gif

I spent 10 years there .... and I always tell myself that one day I'd like to return there. No doubt in my mind that having worked in Petronas gave me the required experience to be where I am today. So network network network and get as much experience as you can. Don't be shy/scared in asking to be part of a project. Go see your boss and ask for training and to be given some work. They like it that way instead of raking their heads on what to do with you.

owhh. last time even the guards in PETRONAS Research, the place where i did my internship are permanent. so the year where PETRONAS announces at least 5 months bonus (if i'm not mistaken), they got so excited because that applies to them as well even though they are just guards. lol
*
The guards are probably Non-Exec staff and they have what we call a union body so they have collective bargaining agreement with Petronas. So when the execs get 5 month bonus, I think their CBA also calls for a top-up of 3 months bonus on top of their guaranteed 2 months bonus.

BUT you need to realize that their base salary is pittance. I know my technician got paid like 10 time less than what Petronas pays for fresh grads now.

Hi guys,
I am a 3rd year UTP student studying Chemical Engineering.

I would like to humbly ask about the opportuinities of a Chemical Engineering fresh grad working in KL. Are there any departments in KLCC that hires fresh grads for CE?

FYI, I don't mind working in a more non-technical department compared to working in plants, refineries, etc.

Thanks and thanks again.

You can always try for Petroleum Engineering or Reservoir Engineering BUT, you will face competition with those who has a Petroleum Engineering degree. 7-8 years ago, Petronas was still taking in Chem E student and converting them to PE due to the shortage of people doing PE degrees. Now with UTP and a lot of students coming back with PE degrees, I think it would be difficult now but then again, I may be wrong.

Went to Brazilian embassy today and had a chit chat with the lady (secretary). She told me that a few bunch of petronas ppl that came for the visa application and few more are coming. I guess this in line with the recent announcement where Petronas is buying one block in brazil. Can someone advise whether Petronas is currently setting up the office over there and where it will be located? Tq
