Introduction
Nintendo Switch is basically the latest hardware device from Nintendo, supposedly to be the third pillar alongside with 3DS and Wii U, but we all know it meant to replace both. Why? Because it's a hybrid device at its core.

Switch and Play
As it's a hybrid device, there's 3 main gameplay mode:
- TV mode
By putting the main switch unit on the dock and detaching the Joy-con, you can play it like any normal home console system
- Handheld mode
Featuring 6.2 inch IPS screen, you can easily play it without connecting to tv
- Table-top mode
Thanks to detachable Joy-con controller and a kickstand, you can just play it without restrained by tv or being stucked holding the console like a handheld. Just put the switch on some table and play it like a normal console

Joy-Con
- An evolution of Wiimote
- Features traditional input button like analog sticks, shoulder buttons, face buttons, directional buttons
- Each joy-con can be used as single controller, where you can SHARE THE JOY with someone else to play local co-op games
- Left joy-con features capture button that can capture compressed, lossy JPEG screenshot that can be shared to the social media. In future updates, you can record the gameplay
- Right joy-con have an IR Motion Camera, which is useful when playing jankenpon as it can detect the shape of your fist, whether you do rock, paper or scissor
- There's NFC reader directly above the analog stick on right joy-con, where it's used for the overpriced amiibo. Yeah, you need to tap amiibo on top of the analog stick
- Both joy-con features gyroscope, accelerometer and HD Rumble. HD Rumble is so high-def to the point where people can relate the vibration to an empty glass getting filled with ice cubes

Yup! Nintendo Switch is region free unlike 3DS or Wii U. You can freely play any switch game that you purchase. Buying digital games from different region eShop also much easier

Questions & Answers
* Which region should we setup our Switch/Nintendo Account?
It is recommended to use US for both. Other suggested option is to make Japan account as well since there’ll be Japan exclusive games/demo

* Should I really make Japan account since I don’t understand Japanese?
Some games have Multilanguage even though it’s only available in JP eShop due to various reasons such as ported games with earlier JP release.

* Is there a list of those games with Multilanguage?
Will provide a list later (remind me please)

* Can I use my debit/credit card to buy games from eShop?
Now yes, because we don’t have official eShop region. If somehow later in the future there’s official Nintendo presence and there’s well-maintained eShop Malaysia, we won’t be able to do so. Of course, you need to check with your bank on how to enable foreign & online transaction first.

* For some reason, I can add funds directly to JP (or any other region) eShop for 3DS but not now on Switch. What happen?
It is probably related to the previous question. A solution is to combine eShop balance between 3DS & Switch, then add the funds via 3DS eShop.

* If I don’t want to use my debit/credit card to add funds, any suggestion on where can I get prepaid codes?
Amazon.com (for US eShop) and Amazon.co.jp (for JP eShop) are suggested as they’ll provide you with digital codes after purchase. You might need to temporarily change your address to their country first to checkout. There’s other websites that sell but first check if they’re selling at base price or markup price. There’s also some users that are selling here locally. Check our garage sales section for those. Do note that we don’t held responsible for any kind of transaction complications.

* I heard Nintendo will start charging for online play later. Any details on that?
Sadly, not much details of it for now. We don’t even have the pricing yet. Expect the details will be up during E3 2017 this June.

* Switch battery doesn’t last that long in my opinion. Any good powerbank to suggest?
Any powerbank that supports USB-PD “natively” is good for Switch. Our good fellow former stringfellow suggested to use XiaoMi QB820 as the power delivery almost as good as the supplied charger by Nintendo.

* Can we play multiplayer games with each other if our region games are different, both online & locally?
It is game dependent. Some games allow that while some don’t. Nintendo-published games generally allow different region multiplayers but some third party might not. According to some reports, Puyo Puyo Tetris don’t allow JP and non-JP version to play with each other. Always checks around before buying if you’re in particular care about this.

* Any suggested local gamestore for Switch related stuff purchase?

* What is Nintendo Direct that I keep on seeing in the internet?
Nintendo Direct is some sort of Nintendo's method for delivering news & future updates for both software & hardware. The video will generally pre-recorded and will be aired live on youtube & other video sites in a set date. There's no regular intervals of which Direct will be aired. You can check the archive here

I mean the online coop. even if the game/system is region free, there's still low chance the online part is region locked especially when the game have different release date. low chance tho

The new Direct is why I'm excited: Nintendo need to show more games like these. Sine Mora EX(compared to Graceful Explosion Machine) and The Fall Part 2 Unbound(compared to Blaster Master) shows what kind of graphical prowess the Switch has under its hood. This in turn will attract AAA publishers to create content for the Switch, instead of the waves of "meh" indies and pixel art shovelware (although some are updated). I mean I love my Metal Slug 3 and World Heroes Perfect, but those games can only go so far in terms of convincing these devs that they should develop for the Switch. Hell, they can produce these types of pixel art shovelware on smartphones these days, and we all know the depths of garbage you have to swim through the sea of useless apps and games on smartphones these days.

Sure, indie games are nice, but catering majorly to that crowd only isn't why you cram so much hardware potential under the hood. You don't publish games like bloody "Othello" on an Nvidia Tegra capable device and expect people to lap it up.

TL;DR: stop with these indies shovelware, make more quality games. Inb4 " graphics isn't everything, if the gameplay is crap". So does the opposite. If graphics is crap, nobody's pulled to buy them either, unless you have prior experience with them or the nostalgic factor. Or better still, concentrate the indies shovelware crap onto the 3DS, get more serious with tapping the hardware on the Switch.

Pretty much true. But give em more time, E3 is coming. To develop new title for a very young console system wasn't easy, and it's time consuming.
This remind me when Ps4 launch few years back, with several big title remake upon released.

They're more eager to plaster indie games titles in development that whatever THQ Nordic was showing. Even if the games are under development, concept arts and screenshot of what the games are about will give clear idea of what kind of genre, gameplay and graphics are to be expected. I'll take that over endless indies.

Will this save a lot of Amiibo inside? Because I saw another more powerful NFCTag which will allow to store about 200 Amiibo in the tag

Rewritable. That's as good as "unlimited" amount of Amiibos. It's not like all 200 Amiibos is used in the game, only a few gives worthwhile perks. And what happens if the Amiibo numbers exceed 200?

The N2 Elite that holds 200 Amiibos have a glitch when cycling through empty banks.

Puyo Puyo Tetris demo in English is out on US eShop.

When there's more than 12 games and demos available on your home screen, the "All Software" page is made available. Smaller icons with more visible view of the games/demo.

Excited about E3 as they are keeping all the new games unannounced. Really k.o after watching it live at 6am today the direct cuz didn't sleep at all lol.

I think i'll grab the monopoly game, looks like a friendship killer just like Mario Kart. Also Payday 2 and Fate Extella coming to Switch is unexpected to me lol. Might grab Extella cuz I still didn't buy it on PS.

Note that Payday 2 is really a fun coop game but the dev doesn't really support much content of the game outside of PC.

How much you brought this? I try google it is UK Pounds 9.99 for tags and 19.99 for reader. And N2 Elite is much expensive than this items which is USD106.39 for both bundles.

Thumper coming in May (Awesome rhythm game) and some other indies.

It's totally a curse to own almost every platform, you just don't get excited about anything at all. Really hope this direct is a sign that Nintendo is hosting the biggest E3 game announcement of all time because it is getting depressing with only MK8 as an upcoming game until post E3.

Exactly that much. Saveforall store sells the NFC reader-only without the Powertags. Or you can opt to get the Powersaves reader + Powertags as a bundle from Codejunkies direct.

Not sure I wanna splurge again for Thumper again after I rarely revisited it on PSVR.

Unless you have a pro controller, I would avoid it. Can't imagine playing it with Joycon. A lot of precision/button meshing might destroy the joycon. Plus you won't get a better experience compared to PSVR if you don't like it there.

i wonder helldivers gonna be ported to switch or not. Really hope that would happen, missed those times where i cross play with my frens(PS4) using vita.

Sony holds the right, so no. Even the steam version is published by Sony.

SnipperClips is really good but lack replayability and short game.
Fast RMX is good but cheap, as in the gameplay is cheap. Basically whenever you reach number 1 in lap 2, the game will rubberband you and suddenly others will magically go much faster than the maximum speed and zap across you. Same goes to the online, it is quite broken. Everybody zap and flies around, you just kind of race for the time and then they use that to rank your places. Still pretty fun game.
Voez is free on mobile to try it out, too many songs I didn't like compared to DJ Max/Superbeat Xonic (best rhythm game ever!)
Has Been Heroes is not as bad as what the reviewers described but still lack of variety after several runs.
Graceful Explosion Machine is eh..... looks like another free PS+ game.

AVOID Mr. Shifty, apparently it's broken on Switch and the developer suggest people to get Steam version instead.

The best game on Switch aside from Zelda for me is Shovel Knight. The new DLC is a masterpiece and I spent a total of 40+ hours across the 3 campaign, challenges and trying to complete all feats. Plus you will be getting the upcoming campaign for free. $25 for 4 campaigns.

my self now grinding much on Disgaea 5 and zelda now. occasionally, some rmx races and puyo tetris with my wife. everyday still spend at least 1 hour plus on my switch

Fast RMX is still ace to me. Whenever I feel like yawning because I've done almost everything in Zelda and only left finding boring Korok Seeds, I switch to Fast RMX. Instantly keeps you awake. Sure, AI rubberbands all the time but I'm not playing for achievements, just enjoyment. I will hit the firewall later though if I can't unlock more tracks on harder leagues, but simply switching to a different craft and figuring out their maneuverability got me through. If I'm grinding for 1st place, that'll poss me off though, since the AI is cheap. Thankfully I'm happy with just being on the podium and unlocking new tracks and crafts. *shrugs*

Bought Disgaea 5 thinking I can forgave its simplistic graphics for its gameplay. We"ll see about that. Persona 5 is currently taking too much of my time and is helping me conditioning myself to do that.

I'll get Fast RMX and Graceful Explosion Machine.

Fast RMX for the challenge and also I miss wipeout on PS, also this is as close as I can get from an F-Zero kinda feel game. I should wait for Redout but meh, just gonna grab it.

Graceful Explosion Machine looks fantastic and the reviews are really high as well. Haven't been playing much of this type of game for a long time, so i'll give it a shot.

Actually wanted Voez as well, since most people I knew who enjoyed rhythm game likes it as well. But kinda pricy, so will decide later for this.

Hmm, how come the Switch didn't fully charged even after hours of playing on dock? I wanna to play undock, then see the battery bar wasn't full. Playing Zelda on dock consume more power than the power in charging?

Happy to know Switch so far, is a success. Looks like the 5 millions Superbowl ad was money well spent. Now Nintendo needs to buck up on its supply. BTW, whenever I read comments on sites like Gematsu, Siliconera, Kotaku, Gamespot etc, there are always people who try to make every news on Switch is nothing, try to remind others that it's a subpar console.. I know they do not represent the whole gaming community but it's really ridiculous how hard they try to blame Nintendo for everything.

It's pretty normal, the hate on Nintendo is strong, mostly because they can't play Nintendo games tbh lol. They hate this and that, and yet they want Nintendo to develop game elsewhere and become 3rd party. Like that did well for Sega. Flop a few more times also Nintendo won't run out of business. Switch should be good, games are easily ported over, some games only takes less than a day even which is impressive. 3rd party support seems to be doing really well, now just have to wait and see if there is more worthy games to play on it.

You should stick to like Nintendo Life mostly. More real Nintendo fans there. There are trolls there too but easy to differentiate.

If not mistaken, the battery level indicator includes the Joycons battery level.

It would be awesome if Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Monster and Story of Seasons are among the 20 games being developed using ue4..

so if we play on dock for hours then we want to straight continue undock we won't get full charge? considering joy cons mostly go for wireless..

Well I bought Voez first and I've to say, it's a really good rhythm game. If ur into anime and rhythm games, recommended.

Yeah the mobile version is free, but it sucks that you can't play the whole 100 song right from the start. I heard it's really grindy as well to purchase songs and f2p on mobile. But on the Switch, just play the tutorial which is just one song, and you unlock all the 100 songs. There is a few unlockable things like some story just for progression purpose which is alright. Also unlocking avatar which is pretty nice.

The game has really good visual and very well designed, i love it. And the music choices are pretty great.

Earlier, I read or Youtube somewhere that when playing docked, the graphics processor works harder hence taking much more longer to fully charge it as compared to undocked.

Just bought this from impulse sunway. will give review soon. finally a case for my switch

Ayy 3 new games to play, and travelling for 3 days. Lets see how good the Switch holds up.

Codejunkies sells them on their website. Amiiqo/N2 Elite is available down south. Another Amiibo manipulating platform, Namiio is available locally, but it's Chinese-documented so I've no confidence in those.

Those so called true gamers are angry when Ninty stopped the production of NES Classic but at the same time, they wish Switch will fail. Suprisingly, Gbatemp also have many Nintendo haters. They don't have any qualms about hoping for Nintendo downfall, which I hope will never happen.

If the toys were cheaper, I would have bought 'em. But the price is too much just to get some special items, no thanks to our currency exchange rate. I could understand people using this as other means to get the locked items. That Wolf looks so cool!

just got back from HK, both official/imported Switch stocks are still plenty there,
either color are sold at the same price, Switch related accessories also aplenty as well. Only thing that's out of stock everywhere is the Pro controller.

Cheapest official Switch I can find is HKD2680 compared to the official price set by Nintendo HK at HKD2340, Japs set are a few hundred HKD cheaper but I didn't bother as those don't have any warranty, and the power plug is 2-pins type.
None of the stores force you to buy a forced bundle as well, you can just buy the vanilla Switch by it self.

Bought one Switch from a well known reputable store in Golden SSP, got a 2.5D edge tempered glass for HKD98 as well, forgot what brand as have already throw the cover away, but so far super happy with it.

Day 2 night experienced the dreaded L-joycon issue, reception was pretty bad from 2~3M away, had a few signal lost when I place the L-joycon behind me. No such issue with the R-joycon.

Then I realized Nintendo HK wasn't open the next few days due to the long Easter weekend holiday, and I had to catch the flight home the next day evening. Contacted the store I bought the Switch from, told them my dilemma, luckily they're willing to do a 1 to 1 swap for the joycon for me.

While I was commuting to the store that morning via the MTR, read the dreaded news that Ninty is stopping the production of the wildly popular NES/Famicom Classic. Saw a few stores in SSP still have a few Famicom Classic on shelves, but selling at a slightly inflated price of HKD650-HKD680. It seems they still haven't got hold of the news that those will reach EoL this month, else the price would be much higher. So quickly grabbed one at HKD650.


TL;DR
grabbed an official Switch from HK, found out the L-joycon has the dreaded issue, store did a 1-1 joycon swap for me as Ninty HK is on holiday mode.
Also bought a Famicom Classic before the stores knew it's going to reach EoL.


Some of you might questioning me why bother go all the way to HK to buy a Switch, as after the currency conversion, it's only slightly cheaper, and it's foreign warranty as well.
Well, I have my reasons, 1st, I'm boycotting Maxsoft and some local stores for how they're handling the Switch launch in this region, forced bundle? No thank you. Diff price for Neon set? No thank you again. Pay the store RM100 just to send back your Switch to Maxsoft for warranty? Hohoho, you might as well shoot me in the head.
2nd, it's a fully paid company sponsored working trip, so there's zero travelling & accommodation expenses for me Might as well take advantage of that to do some shopping.
3rd, my home is across the south china sea from most of you here, local game stores I can count by one hand, and Switch are in very very short supply here. I have a better chance of spotting the rare orangutan in the jungle here than spotting a Switch in a local store.
4th, online order? no thank you as well, local courier sucks, most of the time you'll get either delayed delivery or a damaged parcel, or worst, both! Not to mention the shipping fees aren't cheap as well.

I can relate to the "Nintendo Must Die" mentality. They want Nintendo games be available on a more neutral platform like PC than just locked behind Nintendo's own hardware. That lock is already broken with emulators and even the NES Classic is basically employing that, using emulation on relatively cheap Raspberry Pi PCB.

A more subdued rationale would be Nintendo to release their games out to other platforms, with exclusivity to their own hardware first for one year. That way, nobody has to die, and games can be tailored to the strengths of the platform itself: Nintendo games on Nintendo hardware with all the Nintendo gimmicks, while a year later, Nintendo games on a more superior hardware (PC, PS4, XBONE) without the gimmick nonsense. Not everyone likes Amiibo stuff, and some gamers already moving to 4K for higher graphics fidelity.

As for the Amiibos, every single developers who got exposed locking their game content behind a DLC that is already available on the disc of the game itself gets called out. I'm not giving a "pass" to Nintendo for doing the same.

An exemplary report, instead of "I saw a Nintendo Switch in Sofmap for 25,000 yen" bullshit in last thread. You glean relevant and useful info instead of idle Kopitiam chit-chat that goes nowhere. Good job!

So far so good, travel wise with the Switch. Like while on the airplane and on the bus. Short Burst of game with Fast RMX, Graceful Explosion Machine and Voez.

Really love Graceful Explosion, simple yet really hard, highscore wise. Classic shot-em-up with modern design. Quite challenging even while just playing a round or two which has like 3 phase max. So far exclusive to Switch this game.

Fast RMX is a mix bag for me while fun and has those adrenaline rush. Kinda frustrated playing the game at highest difficulty lol, challenging, but too unlogical. Rubber band AI tsk tsk. Really awesome when ur on a perfect lap though, without any much error.

Voez a bit hard to play cuz I'd rather just put it on a flat surface and play, cuz touch base game. Interesting how controllers doesn't even work at all even for menu nagivation, everything has to be touchscreen. Mostly play this to listen to some weeb music and chilling.

Voez music selection is very mediocre. I only love the Cytus album and something similar. If you are into rhythm games, like REALLY into rhythm games, get Superbeat Xonic on Vita or upcoming PS4 version. Another very similar game is DJ Max Respect also coming soon to PS4.

Already have those. I'm fine with any kind of animu music. Wish there was more than a 100 or even dlc, would be nice. I'd prefer if there is Elite Beat Agents on the Switch, that would be amazing. Or something mini game rhythm style like Rhythm Heaven. I actually have other rhythm game around like Hatsune Miku for 3ds, even on the Vita with Persona 4 Dancing All Night as a plus. Didn't find the Voez music selection mediocre, would say decent for most, but for me more than decent, since I like quite a bunch of the selection. There is even a few without vocals and those are fine as well, but not the best.

For Voez I like how different the note drops and moves around, it's quite challenging on the hardest difficulty, even has one that note just drops like rain. Almost felt like Maksim playing bumble bee. Hard to miss any rhythm games for me. Played a bunch even the idol ones like love live and idolmaster.

Yeah I have Superbeat Xonic that one is pretty good, and also I like Sound shapes which is on PSV and 4, fun but platformer. Now just hoping for Persona 5 Dancing All Night lul

There was a 3DS DJMax announced last year and they went quiet, hopefully it's coming to Switch. But there's one rhythm game that I'm super excited for coming to Switch, Runner 3!

Ah yeah I heard about DJMax as well, maybe they will make a Switch version instead. Would probably require some work since 3ds is small haha.

By next year, retailers will probably stop keeping stocks.
Times are getting harder and only Nintendo first party can survive. The multiplats will probably die off if they continue sticking to USD pricing..

Bcoz the MK8 is priced at $60 at US so if you wan lower price need to wait for sale lo, now currency rate sure $60 x 4.xx = RM270 something. Not all games are priced so expensive la.

Guys...as attached....is this "common" issue whenever you dock?

hello. very common issue if you frequently dock undock your switch.

One way to prevent is install screen protector, or put a cloth between ur dock and switch

It's a known issue.
Installing screen protector is not a good answer too.
My Orzly glass screen protector looks like it has a ripple after i dock it to charge. I didn't dock it for 3 days after installing the screen protector..
I can live with it because it's noticeable only at certain angles.
