just got back from HK, both official/imported Switch stocks are still plenty there,
either color are sold at the same price, Switch related accessories also aplenty as well. Only thing that's out of stock everywhere is the Pro controller.

Cheapest official Switch I can find is HKD2680 compared to the official price set by Nintendo HK at HKD2340, Japs set are a few hundred HKD cheaper but I didn't bother as those don't have any warranty, and the power plug is 2-pins type.
None of the stores force you to buy a forced bundle as well, you can just buy the vanilla Switch by it self.

Bought one Switch from a well known reputable store in Golden SSP, got a 2.5D edge tempered glass for HKD98 as well, forgot what brand as have already throw the cover away, but so far super happy with it.

Day 2 night experienced the dreaded L-joycon issue, reception was pretty bad from 2~3M away, had a few signal lost when I place the L-joycon behind me. No such issue with the R-joycon.

Then I realized Nintendo HK wasn't open the next few days due to the long Easter weekend holiday, and I had to catch the flight home the next day evening. Contacted the store I bought the Switch from, told them my dilemma, luckily they're willing to do a 1 to 1 swap for the joycon for me. thumbup.gif

While I was commuting to the store that morning via the MTR, read the dreaded news that Ninty is stopping the production of the wildly popular NES/Famicom Classic. Saw a few stores in SSP still have a few Famicom Classic on shelves, but selling at a slightly inflated price of HKD650-HKD680. It seems they still haven't got hold of the news that those will reach EoL this month, else the price would be much higher. So quickly grabbed one at HKD650. wink.gif

TL;DR
grabbed an official Switch from HK, found out the L-joycon has the dreaded issue, store did a 1-1 joycon swap for me as Ninty HK is on holiday mode.
Also bought a Famicom Classic before the stores knew it's going to reach EoL.

Some of you might questioning me why bother go all the way to HK to buy a Switch, as after the currency conversion, it's only slightly cheaper, and it's foreign warranty as well.
Well, I have my reasons, 1st, I'm boycotting Maxsoft and some local stores for how they're handling the Switch launch in this region, forced bundle? No thank you. Diff price for Neon set? No thank you again. Pay the store RM100 just to send back your Switch to Maxsoft for warranty? Hohoho, you might as well shoot me in the head.
2nd, it's a fully paid company sponsored working trip, so there's zero travelling & accommodation expenses for me tongue.gif Might as well take advantage of that to do some shopping.
3rd, my home is across the south china sea from most of you here, local game stores I can count by one hand, and Switch are in very very short supply here. I have a better chance of spotting the rare orangutan in the jungle here than spotting a Switch in a local store.
4th, online order? no thank you as well, local courier sucks, most of the time you'll get either delayed delivery or a damaged parcel, or worst, both! Not to mention the shipping fees aren't cheap as well.

I just want to ask, is it true that in Japan the Nintendo Switch is only rm1200 (console only)?

=
Are there any methods to buy one and send it to Sabah,  and are the transport / freight charges exhorbitant? Taxes by Malaysia customs?
*
usually can be shipped via 3rd party forwarder, and customs sure kacau one when reach our shores
so shipping + customs tax it's more or less just slightly cheaper than buying locally, minus the warranty

IMO, it's only worthwhile if you can buy there locally and bring it home yourself

1st month worldwide shipment numbers for those who're interested
-2.76m for Zelda botw switch
-2.74m switch
-almost 1m for 1-2 switch
-500k bomberman
-350k snipperclips
*
am pretty sure more than half of the 1-2 Switch sales were part of the forced bundle

if there weren't any forced bundle, pretty sure it won't even reach the 1mil sales mark

also, where's that extra 0.02mil of Zelda botw for? collection kah? or those users without switch bought it first?

Because it's a port or because of the RM260 price tag is too expensive for a game?
If it's the second reason, just so you know both Arms and Splatoon 2 also confirmed RM259, and pretty much all future Switch games. Some shops are selling it at RM269.
*
My local stores here are selling at RM289 doh.gif doh.gif

Anyway, how to see the full game list in the e-shop???
I only can see Latest Games, & Best Seller, and neither list all games

I just downloaded Mario Kart from eShop. It took me more than 30 minutes to complete the download over wireless. The console was directly in front of my wireless router. Is this normal?

Also, my router has 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz connection. When the console is placed in front of the wireless router, I can see that the 2.4GHz connection has a full bar but 5.0GHz has only one bar.

Anyone has the same issue with wifi?
*
My NS also has super weak WiFi reception, my other stuffs beside the NS can detect my 5G with at least 50% strength, 2.5G with full strength, whereas my NS only can detect the 2.5G with one or 2 bars, sometimes DC as well doh.gif
hopefully it's not another of their HW desgin flaws, and it's solvable via future firmware update

Basically if I don't need to charge on the go/as i play, any 2A USB wall plug + USB Type A - Type C cable should do the job for charging the Switch, right? hmm.gif

the UK power plug for switch is humongous for travelling, planning to use my slim type phone charger if it works.

Greetings, I would like recommendations on where to purchase a Switch console, I am based in Penang and I have 2 other friends looking to purchase them as well. Not really interested in forced bundles, which is what most of my local stores are doing, hence why I am asking here biggrin.gif
*
you'll have little choice if you're getting the official console locally

almost all are selling the official Maxsoft set in a forced bundles

If really wanna console only, then you'll have to look for the imported Japan set which has no warranty, best bet will be hunting for it online

Charging while off = any USB charger can. Even the USB port on your PC can do it.

Charging while sleep mode = at least USB-A charger. Delivers up to 10W if you're lucky.

Charging while playing = depending on load (what games you're playing) you may get away with either maintain charge or slow charge. Any heavy loads like playing Zelda or Fast RMX, you need a USB-C to USB-C charger with Power Delivery profile or the official charger from Nintendo.
Check my post history. I've posted the recommended powerbank and external third party charger capable of replacing the official Nintendo AC charger.

thanks bro, I just need charging while sleep/off
will just bring my slim profile USB A charger and be a wall hugger tongue.gif

mine also, but i managed to discover it on day 2 of my purchase, the store did a 1 to 1 swap of the faulty L-joycon fo me
and that was last month when I bought mine in HK

if yours is Maxsoft warranty, check with your seller on how to claim the warranty

for a simple DIY fix, there are a lot of youtube tutorial as well.

anyone has experience or tried to buy switch at HK ? is it easy to find ? thanks

It's readily available in most game shops
Most popular place will be SSP's Golden mall

And none are selling at Nintendo HK SRP, all are mark up.

Anyone going to down under don't bother to look for switch accessories nor the consoles at EB outlets, mostly are sold out and selling at higher price compared to other retail stores, unless there's a sales going on.

Bought me self a pro controller from Big W @ A$89, that's the cheapest I can find, Targets also selling at the same price, but mostly out of stock. EB selling at A$99, also no stock at most outlets. Joycons are selling around A$109 a pair, strangely some place selling the grey joycon more expensive than the neon pair.

Amiibo are mostly old stocks which no one else wants @A$15 mostly, spotted a few wolf link but selling at ridiculous price of A$50.
