Recently i found a few tv box:

TZ Plus 3GB 32GB Android 7.1 Nougat Smart Android Box (Pre-installed Apps)

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/tz-plus-...7Lvl60&search=1

Android 7.1 Smart TV Box M8S PlusII Amlogic S912 Octa Core Mini PC 3G+32G+5G WIFI 4K H.265 Media Player Home Movie Bluetooth

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/android-...9a6a4&cid=12793

Mecool Pro L 3GB 32GB Android Smart Box (Pre installed Malaysian Apps)

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/mecool-p...24897__11467__1

I just roughly summarize most of the specs seems to be the same in 3GB ram, Android 7.1 and CPU Amlogic S912. Just thinking all this brand any different beside pricing? I know that a clean box without preinstall apps seems to be cheaper. Wondering any differences between all this boxes sell online to take notice.

I bought the Mecool model above that comes with voice remote for $301 via GearBest and awaiting delivery

http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box/pp_1592326.html

Most of the app mentioned by the seller I've them

All the Amlogic devices are almost the same but not exactly the same. They may be differences in Wifi chipset, Wifi antenna (embedded, internal, external), ROM version, Netflix Certification, root/non-root, HD audio passthru, etc.

Some seller added a few apps which able to stream some illegal/non-official content from some places and sell a few hundred ringgit more.

So it's a big soup there. Hardware is not the only thing you need to consider.
*
Maybe just for comparison example, out of this 3 device, which one seems to be the best excluding those apps as consideration? The pricing seems to be around the same.

I don't have the answer because I have used none of the mentioned boxes. Let others answer it.

Same here.. Still rocking Lollipop on the Neo U1. Thought of flashing Finless ROM as its received praises, but decided against it as current firmware is still stable. Ofcourse, those with better TVs and Sound systems should get the upgraded flagships.

So true. Imho...don't fix if it ain't broken... but of course can always revert back with some elbow grease... wink.gif

I heard the Himedia flagships can now run AstroGo with the latest firmware... a good example of continuous firmware support and improvements...

Yup.. Until it gives me major issues or my flash addiction kicks in.. Gonna stick with official firmware.. biggrin.gif

Yeah, observed the same too. Which is why I prefer to only get these flagship devices from proven manufacturers. They'll stick by their devices and continue seeking ways to improve it.. Well until the next flagship is introduced and support wanes. But like the Minix Neo U1, they'll leave it with a rock solid firmware. AFAIK, HiMedia hasn't announced any plans to release a successor to the Q10 Pro and i expect a couple more firmware updates to squash bugs.

I foresee my U1 will stay with me for few years as its stability is good and apps acceptance is high too.

Just thinking do you prefer to buy extra for an empty tv box or already come with preinstalled apps?

As I see those empty boxes is more cheaper by 100 bucks compare to those come with preinstalled apps. Example, for me, I have install Kodi before on my own. So was just thinking is those preinstalled anything special that I can install on my own just by search apk around or through playstore?

Seller? You don't need a seller. Buy a box like from Lazada, I am using Minix U1 and it can use Astro Go, which the box once a while it has sales, so just wait for good deals. biggrin.gif

For Astro Go account, just hook to your family/friend's account and enjoy it. I'm using my parents' Astro account and I enjoy it in my own place.

Just think is this Minix U1 consider branded? Android 5.1

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/minix-ne...s244362629.html

The pricing is more but the hardware specs seems to be lacking compare to something better like

Mecool Pro L 3GB 32GB Android Smart Box, Android 7.1

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/mecool-p...24897__11467__1

Minix is a reputable brand.

Well, I also have one of those third party branded boxes but it comes rooted, so not useful for Astro Go. You can tweak it on your own but I find it troublesome for me. Sometimes apps don't work so well on these boxes.

Most of us bought Minix 1U during sales. I got mine at RM 250. Recently there was a sales for RM 220 or something but without the A2 Lite Air Mouse which was still a good deal.

Most boxes can do both Netflix (max 480p & stereo sound) and Astro Go.. Others can do Netflix (up to FHD/UHD+HDR10) and Astro Go is problematic.. What most of us do is, since we already own a smart TV that comes with FHD/UHD/+HDR10 certified Netflix app, we simply use the TV app for Netflix and buy a confirmed box capable of running Astro Go. Best of both worlds.. Please see page one and use the search feature.. All these noobish questions have been answered repeatedly.

Liken it to building your own desktop PC versus buying one already pre-setup. One involves you doing the setting up and the other involves you paying for someone who has already done the setting up. Choose which you'd want.

if you know how to install kodi addons/subtitles/etc. then ure better off buying an empty box.

those with preinstalled software are for those who are lazy or just aren't tech savvy..imagine asking ur mum to install kodi with addons biggrin.gif

I buy empty, then installed on my own. May be I'm missing something, but that the advise from sifu here. Not that difficult to do.
