Hardware question, is it ok to use the original amd AM4 backplate to install the stand-off for a CM Hyper 212 cooler instead of using the CM provided plastic backplate. Just upgraded to a R5 3600 and dreading the idle temp.

Just upgraded to a R5 3600 and dreading the idle temp. Reddit says it's ok: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/...tm_source=shareAnd so does the CM video embedded there. Also, anyone tried the new bios: https://wccftech.com/asus-rolls-out-amd-age...-compatibility/

QUOTE(John Chaser @ Jul 29 2021, 01:03 PM) Thanks for the reply. I just went and swapped it out. Haha. Idle temps with the Hyper 212 is in the low 40s and at 30% load, the cpu temp doesn't rise above 57C. This post has been edited by dickybird: Jul 29 2021, 01:30 PM

My advice to Asus, learn how Giga Aorus Master made the VRM heatsink. To me the VRM heatsink on Asus just a piece of cheap hollow metal which doesn't justify the premium charged. This post has been edited by coolkwc: Aug 2 2021, 01:26 AM

Hi all AMD sifu here. I been using amd 5 3700x with Asus ROG Strix x570 for almost 2year. For 3700x the most i hate is the temperature but finally i manage to get an AIO last year Corsair H115i capellix which full load doesn't reach above 80c. Since i never use intel before, from AMD K6-2 -> Athlon64 -> Phenom then FX8350 finally jump to the 3700x. 3700x performance is really good for my daily productivity and very light gaming. From last year MCO till today my daily productivity in a day cut short maybe only 20-30%, gaming 10-20% and the rest of time watch drama/movie/surf. Still using my 3years RX570 8GB . I really want to try out the AMD 5000 series since it will be the last of AM4 before AM5 is coming. 5900 i way out of my budget. So 5600x,5700g and 5800x which 1 should i go? 5900x out of budget 5800x Upgrade but heard this proc is more hotter than 3700x and higher power draw in multi-threaded work loads 5700G maybe in case my RX570 die i still have integrated graphics. 5600x Downgrade. Compare this with 3700x is 5600x being less 2 core 4 thread is it performance on real application have much impact? Mostly image and video editing like Adobe software, Photopia, PowerDirector 365, Handbrake and few other. Sifu please help This post has been edited by WillSmith: Aug 21 2021, 09:50 AM

Save up for 5900X if you want more. Yes, 5800X or higher demands cooling. Your H115i is just minimum recommended. Remember to update BIOS. New BIOS is required for 5000 series.

That mean downgrading less core 5600x really hurt some real performance of application (not gaming) and waste money. Upgrading 5700G same core the improvement is not so noticeable in real application can benefic right? As for 5800x maybe some review the number is but this actual not a big performance which can .

I thought overnight selling my 3700x and jump buy 5900x (from shopee with installment 18month it might not hurt wallet so much) Can you give more info for this 5900x. Saw you have 5900x with H150i. Can i ask what is yr proc temp normally in idle ( room without aircon ) (PBO on no oc) If you run stress test Prime95 and cinebench r23 what is the max temp? Is it super hot? When full stress what is the max CPU Package (w)? During day time when i using my 3700x+h115i for work my room is quite warm (no aircond in my room) i scare 5900x might be hotter .

QUOTE(TristanX @ Jan 10 2021, 06:47 PM) Yup. Eco Mode does nothing to idle but helps on load. It caps out total power used to your 65W. It helps with load temperatures. Still an improvement. My Eco mode does 87W. DDR4-4000 or FCLK 2000 is not easy. Normally you running in normal or eco? In eco how much temp when max load? Let say if i upgrade to 5900x will it hit the 90C Attached thumbnail(s)

Possible for you to hit 90C since your cooler is weaker than mine.

Patience is a virtue
|
Hi all, pretty much a noob here with hardware. Currently, I am using a Ryzen 7 3700X CPU and pairing it with a GALAX 3080 TI SG. Just want to check if this CPU is bottlenecking the performance of the GPU (especially with games like COD Black Ops and Warzone). Am tempted to upgrade the CPU to a Zen 3 architecture CPU but not too sure.
