What is a good combo for a Ryzen + motherboard + RAM for gaming? At the moment i have a GTX 1070 which I am using on a second gen Core i7 running at 3.4Ghz and old 16Gb RAM. Currently averaging around 70-90 FPS on PUBG on 1080p and looking to get more out of the system.

your budget?  A "good" combo is very subjective.  biggrin.gif

Lets say between 1.5k to 2.5k

How about these?

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X - 999
Gigabyte X470 Gaming 5 WIFI - 849
Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 X2 - 674

RM2522 total (C-Zone price)

Quick question, is there a big performance difference between the 2600X vs the 2600 itself?

Try better Ram - at least DDR4 - 3200

Yup, if he got more budget......

Planning to get at least 16Gb of RAM, don't mind upping the budget to meet those requirements. Is getting the DDR4 - 3200 justified in terms of its price versus performance output?

Hi all, pretty much a noob here with hardware. Currently, I am using a Ryzen 7 3700X CPU and pairing it with a GALAX 3080 TI SG. Just want to check if this CPU is bottlenecking the performance of the GPU (especially with games like COD Black Ops and Warzone). Am tempted to upgrade the CPU to a Zen 3 architecture CPU but not too sure.

main proof that you are noob is that you keep asking about bottlenecking tongue.gif

with a 3080ti, you are going to hit 60-100fps consistently in all or most games at 1080p and 1440p anyway.
even with just a r9 290, i can hit 50fps in most games i play at 4k.

if you are getting 100fps with a 3700x, while your friend is getting 120fps with a 11900k.
both guys are playing at 1080p, then you are just being pedantic.

Thanks appreciate it. Whilst FPS matters to me because I tend to play a bit more competitively (just by nature), it is mostly for 1440p. Right now, I can't get a stable 144FPS (currently averaging around 110-125FPS at 1440p) whilst compared to my friend with the 5600x CPU and the 3080 GPU, he gets about 150-160 FPS (with exactly the same settings and 1440p monitor). Personally, I feel that just because of the CPU that I am missing out and was thinking of initially just swapping out the CPU. Haven't made the decision yet to do it as due to work commitments, I don't have the time to play FPS games at the moment.

Then just cap the game to 117fps, set monitor refresh rate to 120hz and call it a day?
141fps @ 144hz is really not a whole lot different to 117fps @ 120hz, despite what marketing and armchair believers will tell you.

Sure you're theoretically "wasting" your 3080Ti, but if it makes you feel any better - I really only play tekken 7, a 6 year old game that could run on a toaster and it's locked to 60fps at 1440p. There, I'm wasting my 3080 more than you're wasting your 3080Ti.

Otherwise just run at a higher resolution using DSR if you feel you need to put your GPU to use.

Tried that but that same niggling feeling keeps irritating me. Right now it still doesn't bother me until perhaps when Battlefield 2042 comes out, maybe that is when I will just swap out the CPU.

Yeap, 3000 series will miss out alot of fps as it doesnt have the big shared cache like the 5000 series. That's why i will always recommend 10400F over 3600 for budget builds because even a 10400F actually performs better than a 3900x when it comes to gpu bottleneck. (When properly tuned aka ram and cache OC, the 10400F  matches a stock 5600x in games fps)

So on your predicament. Just go ahead and grab a 5900x. Try to scalp that 3700x on People who die die wants an AMD cpu, i think still alot of buyers. (I actually sold my 3000 series higher than what i paid for brand new early this year laugh.gif)

Cool, thanks for the tip!
