Not DIY, but currently doing renovation.
I asked my wireman to setup CCTV cabling in my house, they use conduit for CCTV cables.

Hi, you don't conceal CCTV cabling inside wall/ceiling? Is there any special reason?

I got three types, 2 each.
- 3MP
- 2MP
- 2MP with audio

I've never used motion detection before so I cannot comment. You tried?
*
Setting it up with motion detection is pretty easy, and it sends alert to ivms app. I just can't seem to get email alerts working properly, might have to do something with DS 7108 firmware.
Also for your DS 7108 POE model, do you still need router to provide IP address? Or just use crossover cable for if you're setting up CCTV without router?

Hi, i am planning to install cctv for my new house but i have no knowledge on this.
May i know how you all install the cctv? DIY or ask the seller install for you?
If i ask my electrician to place the Cat6 cable first then only ask the CCTV seller help me install, will it cause any issue and will it cost cheaper? Thank you.

Setting up your cameras with decoder is not that difficult.
Just the wiring that can be a bit tedious since you need to run the cables thru the ceilings and across different rooms.

Hi, my CCTV cables do not get concealed on the ceiling wall, but did conceal on the normal partition wall.
My wireman say there is no need to conceal on ceiling because I will be having plaster ceiling to cover the wiring.

Previous photo was still under construction.
Here is the latest photo.

I got email alert working on Gmail few months ago on my relative's CCTV setup, you will have to turn on "Less secure apps" access for your gmail setting for it to work. But recently looks like the email alert does not work again, not sure what is the problem but I have no time to look at it.

For my own POE CCTV setup, I connect cameras directly to the recorder unit using straight through cable, working well.
When connect the recorder to router, the router will assign an local IP address to the recorder unit automatically when your DHCP is enabled. I will normally reserved a fixed local IP for my CCTV recorder so that I know what is the IP address always.

Is there any analogue DVR still available in the market?
Mine is spoiled, and contractor tell me need to replace the whole system as the current market DVR all are in HD which my current analogue cameras will not work with it.
How true is this?
*
yes, analog is quite hard to find in the market already.

but newer recorders are pentabrid, can support all range of signal from TVI, CVI, AHD, CVBS (analog) and also IP.

So, if your recorder KO, then consider getting a 5-in-1 recorder.

Hi, such cabling method is normal.

Cablemen usually do not conceal the whole stretch of cable as there's no point in doing so, well... unless you don't plan to have a plaster ceiling, then they will need to hack and patch the whole wiring route.

Also, remember to set the motion detection settings such as:

1. sensitivity
2. detection area

having the camera being too sensitive at all areas will eventually flood your mail. If Gmail senses that your email is being used to constantly spam mails, it will block your outgoing as well.

If I remember correctly it should be a couple of hundred mails per day quota only.

In short, you better make sure that your electrician does a good job.
Or otherwise, when the CCTV guy comes and install only to find out the cabling errors, then you're going to have a tough time.

Nowadays I believe CCTV guys doing everything altogether shouldn't be too costly.
Do update us more on what you need, so that we can advise you better?

Thanks for the tips, maybe which is why the email alert stops working even though the "Less Secure App" access remains turned on.

As far as I know, the NVR is the one providing IP address for the cameras. I set all the cams on DHCP mode. So I guess the NVR is the one that assigns the IP address for the cameras. The NVR is connected to wireless router using straight thru cable only. I never set any crossover cable. How's your setup like?

See my setup as below:

My setup similar to yours
I'm curious to see if your nvr can still detect those ip cameras without a router in the setup
Can't really test it myself since I don't have nvr with poe ports (i have separate poe adapters)

Yes, the NVR definitely can connect to those IP cameras without a router. I think the NVR itself is a network switch +recording capabilities + POE. So 1 cable connect straight to NVR for power and data. But with this setup I am not able to access to full camera settings (i.e. WDR) via the NVR. I have to either plug them back into the router to change these WDR settings. or another way is to connect the nvr back to nvr port and router to nvr port. Is your camera not being able to be detected by the NVR?

Actually nowadays, a lot good and cheap system use Coax cable (RG59 / RG6), like TVI, CVI, AHD..
Still, if u lay CAT6, then u hv 1 more option, which is IP, by adding balun, TVI, CVI, AHD can run on Network cable also.

U can ask wireman to lay cable 1st, then buy system from CCTV seller, cost will be cheaper also. But make sure before ur wireman lay the cable, get consultation from cctv seller, like camera location, dvr location, what cable to use, etc...

Anyway, if ur house at klang valley, we can help u too.. :-)
Any question jz PM me.

My wireman has wired RG59 and power cables to 4 locations ( 2 outdoor and 2 indoors) the coax and power cables all come to the living room where the decoder and power supply is to be fixed.

Can you recommend me a budget friendly 4 channel CCTV with the following requirements:

HD CVI or TVI
2 bullets for outdoor weather and waterproof and 2 dome for indoor with high resolution 4MP or above available? With IR for night vision too.
A 4MP or above recorder with 25fps recording and playback for ALL 4 channels at MAXIMUM HD resolution.
A suitable surveillance hard disk
Power supply for the 4 cameras

Feel free to recommend something else if the above is not viable. But would prefer the above if possible.

Since the wiring is all ready, all I need is simple service to attach the cameras to the walls/ceiling which is at conveniently accessible locations and plugging in the decoder and power supply. Should be a 30 minutes job. How much do you charge for this simple installation service? Please breakdown the installation separately as I want to know if I can DIY.
Please provide the model numbers of the recorder and cameras too.

Budget System is 2Megapixel, 3Megapixel above will be expensive.
Also, DVR nowadays max 1080P@25fps Real Time Record.. For those 3Mpx/4Mpx DVR, only 15fps Record.

Ideally budget is 1mp, but different people's term of budget can sometimes vary. Hahahaha

There're recorders that can record 4mp at real time 25fps, it's just that the price is more expensive.

I feel 15fps is justifiable, if it's not for a high traffic area. At the end of the day, more frames means occupying more space. So, be ready to fork out more for hard disk if 4mp real time is needed.
