My recommendation
=============

Hikvision China Set
NVR: (Supports up to 8 network cameras with PoE)
Network Camera: [url=
(IP67 Protection and Minimum Illuminance of 0.002 Lux)

Hikvision English Set
NVR:  (Supports up to 8 network cameras with PoE)
Network Camera: [url=
(IP67 Protection and Minimum Illuminance of 0.01 Lux)

1TB of hard drive is enough for your need, can store up to 48 hours from six 2MP 25fps camera at 5120kbps bit rate.

Hi, what can I get to protect my CCTV cameras/nvr from getting fried if lightning struck?
Is something like this sufficient enough?

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/272679

From another lowyat thread, they seem to recommend Cal Lab brand over belkin

https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=66449443

For the past few years when thunder strikes, only my router that's connected to modem that's either fried or LAN port damaged.
So I'm kinda worried it might damage my cameras when I'm using wired POE LAN system

Yes, I am fully aware of that.
The China set only came with Chinese user interface and Chinese language.
That is why I included the English set on my recommendation also.
*
For Chinese set hikvision, can you use IVMS 4200/4500 mobile app to access your cameras?
Can ezviz be used if you're using chinese camera outside of china region?
Is the motion/alarm alert message notification in chinese or english?

I have not much experience on lightning arrestor or lightning isolator, but you can ask around or wait for other people reply.
I remembered that the Hikvision network camera has 6kV lightning protection, I saw the words written in the packaging, but not in the specification on their website.
Better still to have another layer of protection just to be safe.
*
I'm buying this model DS-2CD2145F-IS
Getting the multilanguage one

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Ne...2451307151.html (can't find any official hikvision website link yet)

Is lightning protection listed for this model?

Regarding on lightning strike, it's a sensitive issue. There's no 100% way of covering the acts of god, it's just too random.

However, technically if you were to open up the plastic housings and compare the Belkin to Cal-Lab, Cal-Lab would be a much better isolator.

I've been selling Cal-Lab for a long time, and yes it works. Most of the time, the lightning isolator is fried, but the item remains unharm.

The question is, Cal-Lab has got many type of isolators, which isolator should you use?

Also, which point should you allocate your isolator? Here are a few suggestions.

1. 230VAC power plug top
2. LAN port on your modem (that connects to the recorder/camera. If you have 10 cameras, and you want to protect them all, you'll need 10 isolators already)
3. LAN port on each of your camera at the camera point. (protecting from the router end, doesn't mean it will stop the lightning at cam end. If the lightning strikes the cable, the excess will flow to whichever pressure is lower, or maybe both ways)
4. DC plug point of your camera

Do remember that a complete isolator solution can be quite costly.
*
My setup would be like this

CODE
Modem -> Tplink router -> 8 port POE adaptor -> 4 cameras
                                  -> NVR

Would placing one isolator between Router & POE adaptor/NVR be enough?
Or should I install it between telephone line & modem.

Instead of NVR
Is an intel atom powered PC sufficient for IMVS 4500 with hikvision cameras?
Saw an ad for use intel Hewlett-Packard T5740
Since I'm only doing motion detected recording, I could place an ssd inside

However, is processing power enough to for 4mp camera recording with IVMS for pc?

alexander3133 and alucard89 , thanks for the input.
Will do more readings...very good info.
I think 1MP camera will be good enough if there's budget constraint.
*
What's your budget for each camera?
I think you can get 3rd party onvif 1080p 2mp for around 95 ~ 100+. Motion detection should still work with hikvision nvr.

Are there such thing as wireless CCTV which can view via smartphone wirelessly without internet connection for the purpose of viewing remotely in close proximity?
*
I think you can do that with any wireless cctv cam.
As long as it provides rtsp link that you can view in your lan
Some cameras are lock down like xiaomi, 360 that you can only view using their app that needs internet.

Just noticed digi has new broadband package for rm30 with 6gb data and free 10gb youtube.
Definitely an ideal choice to monitor cctv streams at home besides streamyx where fiber not available.

Try this one, 1080p and onvif should be compatible with other nvr, additional 20 yuan for audio recording

http://h5.m.taobao.com/awp/core/detail.htm...791&toSite=main

Any xmeye nvr or hikvision ds-7108sn should be sufficient

I just received my Hikvision CCTV and NVR from ezbuy. Will look into thoroughly how to setup the whole system. I think I need some help on it to setup. Any idea where to reference to setup with my Asus router?

Curious to know how does PoE adapter work?
*
Try setting up ezviz, should be straightforward after that and you'll be able to access outside home network

If not you might need to set up port forward on your asus router

Hikvision cam -> poe adapter cable -> poe ethernet switch/hikvision nvr with poe -> router

I thought EZVIZ requires a China Mobile Number for registration?

Currently my thoughts of setup is:

Through LAN:
Hikvision Cam (DS-IPC-B32-I3) > Hikvision NVR(DS-7108N)> Asus Router (N12HP)
Through WIFI:
Hikvision Cam (DS-IPC-B32-I3) > Asus Router (N12HP) or whichever router> Hikvision NVR(DS-7108N)

But I think I need to set up my NVR first because yesterday when I switch on without any HDD, it just keeps beeping every 10 seconds. WD Purple HDD 2TB should be enough I hope? Anyway, can it operate without a display monitor?
*
Are you using the multilanguage version or chinese firmware?
If chinese one, probably can't use ezviz here

Yeah, can still operate without monitor but you'll still need to know the ip address for nvr to configure the settings.

Try setting up with ivms 4500 mobile app and see if you can detect your device locally. Then you'll need to port forward your nvr so you can access it outside home network

For the hdd, have you tried formatting it in the hikvision setting?

It should be the multi language one. How to check from the outside to confirm? I haven't had the time to connect it to a monitor to see the interface yet.  tongue.gif

I thought of setting up first with a temporary monitor then maybe later on see whether to have a permanent one.

Yesterday, I can view through the IVMS 4500 app when testing to connect to one of the Camera connected via LAN.
Actually just 2 at the moment...  tongue.gif
*
If menu is in English confirmed multilanguage
2 other cameras also multilanguage? If chinese firmware you'll probably need to setup on your nvr using onvif instead of Hikvision

Yes 8 ports. Planning to expand if the setup works out. Thanks a lot for the information. Will try to setup when I have the time.
The cameras are Chinese firmware. Can it setup with hikvision nvr multilanguage?
*
I think should still be possible, like i mentioned before
Try using onvif, not hikvision protocol when addding camera
Check what's the port number used for onvif on the camera settings.

Thanks for sharing.

Sorry I'm not familiar with the protocol and I'm still new on this. Mind asking, what is the difference between onvif and hikvision protocol?
*
With onvif, you can pretty much add any other 3rd party cameras with compatible onvif to the NVR and motion detection would still work

Hikvision protocol - for hikvision cameras only, can change settings on the camera directly like timestamp/private mask/etc
But in your case different firmware version
If your nvr is multilanguage then camera firmware need to be multilanguage also in order to get hikvision protocol working and vice versa with chinese ones
That's what i understand, any other sifus here probably could explain better

Latest update:
Managed to connect all my cameras and NVR together. Now able to watch through NVR and also through IVMS app. Protocol is hikvision and not not onvif. Managed to figured that the gateway needed to follow either the Asus router or the NVR router ip. hehe.
The next step I am planning to do is to get it connected to the internet so that I remote view (through DNS server or whatever) and then physically installing them on the wall.

Now though, I have a problem which is the internet is damn slow after having to connect 2x2MP camera through wifi. Not sure whether the NVR, camera or both hogging the asus router. Have changed both settings to 720P from 1080p resolution which seems to have some improvement for the time being, definitely not long term solution.

sifu any recommendations?
*
Nice, so you can use hikvision protocol with different firmware language. The guys at ipcamtalk keep stressing out they're not compatible

I thought one of the camera is wired one? So you haven't install that one yet

Is this the right place to ask about IPcamera? I'm super newbie to CCTV so dont bash me..

I want to replace my outdated 8 camera with IPcamera, so aim is to have better picture quality coz old one not clear and also viewing access to smartphone.

I don't see any mention of the typical TP link and D link IPcamera in this thread. Is it not recommend to get those?
*
You can get them of course, it's just that there's better ipcam out there with cheaper price and full hd also.

Do you plan to get wifi camera or the standard setup with decoder?

Do anyone know whether Asus offer free dns account? Or should I just go get from no-ip.com and others?
Yup. Unless the multi language NVR was originally chinese? I don't know.

Both the cameras are wireless and wired capable. I tried setting up differently to test it out. But my intention was to use Wireless. But it seems slow after I get everything connected together. So, I switched on QoS on my Asus router and also changed the resolution to 720p which seems to help. When I go into my Asus admin settings, it was so slow as well. Is it because the memory was not enough to support so many connections?

Also, I'm connecting the camera through another wireless repeater which is wirelessly connected to the Asus router as well.  tongue.gif  Was wondering whether if I connect both the wireless repeater and Asus router with PoE adapter.
Sorry I think I missed out this post. Paiseh.

Any dns service will do, as long as your router regularly updates ip address to the dns service. I'm using no ip since it's free

My internet speed still fine, then again I'm using wired setup and the cameras are connected a seperate poe adapter. Camera video settings at max quality, but I did reduce the bitrate to around 3000kbps for each camera for normal view.

Hi Thanks for reply. I'm noob at all this. I do know my Dad has a set up with a black box most probably decoder and it's all physically wired at home, if not wrong.

Thing is the views are not clear and I want to upgrade to something HD with capability of smartphone assess, for e.g. playback.

My friend said I need to get a NAS for eg from Synology to be able to store and run playback files.

Anyway, I'm not sure what I"m talking about but any recommendation for what I want to achieve? In terms of type of setup and brand to look out for? I've got a pretty good router for a start if that's useful, Asus RT-88U

Thanks for help
*
That's a powerful router you got there,
You're able to share files using with hdd/pendrive connected to the router via samba right?
Cameras like hikvision has net storage option where you can store recordings in the samba share location.

With ip cam, you could just use your pc and install nvr software or get a nvr decoder
NAS like synology can be quite expensive and unnecessary not to mention you still need pay for license for each camera you add.
