QUOTE(t3n @ Mar 12 2017, 06:33 AM) Hi, anyone has a good contractor for installing camera? I would like to install 1 camera for my porch.... you can diy.Long run cheaper and easy maintenance by yourself.-for a start get a hikvision 3mp poe for usd70-75 each.(purchase from aliexpress or ebay) -cat6 lan cable. -a 2 disk synology nas comes with 2 licences(very good surveillance software, motion detection by email, DS cam-apps for android and ios-live stream -maybe a 8 port gigabit switch for future cameras expansion. I do all my own setup. |

QUOTE(t3n @ Mar 12 2017, 08:57 AM) trust me.quite simple.you get a good recording unit in the 2 disk synology. then you get to buy original hard disk.it is always difficult when you start.if you get contractor, you will get frustrated when your recording unit fail and your contractor takes 3-5 days to come to your house.which actually take 1/2 to 1 hour to get it back running.this is my past experience. |

QUOTE(longpants @ Mar 9 2017, 11:34 PM) Yes, the NVR definitely can connect to those IP cameras without a router. I think the NVR itself is a network switch +recording capabilities + POE. So 1 cable connect straight to NVR for power and data. But with this setup I am not able to access to full camera settings (i.e. WDR) via the NVR. I have to either plug them back into the router to change these WDR settings. or another way is to connect the nvr back to nvr port and router to nvr port. Is your camera not being able to be detected by the NVR? I'll be testing that once I get home. It's just that i read how you need one of those cross cable lan if you wanna use without router (didn't really mention it was POE NVR or not) |

You mean normal gigabit switch or poe gigabit switch? |

QUOTE(t3n @ Mar 12 2017, 09:05 PM) I'd recommend foscam c2/iq200 but for some reason the price has tripled since last time I bought it, not sure why1080p, got rtsp, email alerts and everything else There's also xiaomi cameras, got apps but it's pretty locked down (no rtsp, email, just app alerts) You're aiming to use with nvr or just store videos on ipcam's sdcard? |

QUOTE(alucard89 @ Mar 12 2017, 08:19 PM) Synology that good? it is really good.after watching my friends spending 5-7K.giving up after 2 years.one of the reason high electricity bill.synology is low powered energy saving.License fee is just too expensive for each camera (rm240) Have you tried other alternatives like kerbio, motion eye, zoneminder? You mean normal gigabit switch or poe gigabit switch? the thing with synology's surveillance camera, there are constant software support.my personal opinion ,that is the most important.as for the license.it gave you 2 free license when you purchase a unit.you can get a 4 license package from lazada-with some bank promotion, you get a good bargain. |

QUOTE(t3n @ Mar 13 2017, 07:54 AM) hmm, it depends if you really want to go budget.I'd say probably around less than RM800 with the hardware and wire, that's inclusive of: 1. 4ch recorder x 1 2. surveillance hdd (seagate skyhawk 1tb) x 1 3. camera x 1 4. power adaptor 12v 2 a x 1 5. coax/network cable x 1 6. necessary connectors now, the cost to further add on cameras is cheaper as you are purchasing a 4ch capacity recorder but only utilizing one. as of wired vs wireless, honestly if your place has plaster ceiling. Then I'd really prefer to go wired since you can hide your cables. |

I don't really intend to connect to pc, just cameras directly to nvr.Lets say if you use Cross cable LAN on your NVR without router, does that mean you connect the NVR straight to a PC not router? Anyway, I tried using the Hikvision motion detection thingy, can't seem to have any notification to the IVMS app.. not sure whether I am doing it right. Kerbio and others are linux based surveillance apps that support any 3rd party cameras. You can install on boards like raspberry pi for minimum power consumption. i tested zoneminder, motioneye back then but there was thjs few seconds delay with full hd live stream (especially when you enable motion detection). Not sure if they've improved now. Kerbio is new app that looks interesting and i haven't try it out yet For ivms, did you add your dns or home ip address for your nvr in the setting? For me what I did was add the actual ip address for nvr at home, enable alarm. Then replace the ip address with dns name. |
