So both retail and petrol (below RM300) effectively back to 6.25% on weekends

Not clear since it's not mentioned 5TP is for all.

Whatever that isn't mentioned in the announcement means that existing features will remain the same. So yes. You will still get 5TP for almost all retail transactions with MBB2 AMEX.

Initially, AMEX transactions give 5TP per ringgit.

Now, Maybank comes out with "new benefits", which specifically say for petrol transactions, AMEX users can get 5TP per ringgit IF the total amount <RM300.

So while waiting for the full terms and conditions, people start to speculate... does Maybank mean...

1) For non-Petrol transactions, AMEX users will still receive 5TP per ringgit? (ignore those government bodies)
2) AMEX users are only entitled for the "new benefit" of 5TP per ringgit on Petrol (<RM300), whereas the "old benefits" of 5TP per ringgit on non-Petrol transactions are gone?

I don't think AMEX would come out any T&C.

As per their announcement, the new features are

1. 5% weekend cash rebate for AMEX for all transactions. (Previously just 5% Weekend cash rebate for Dining only)

2. 1 x TP for petrol transactions >RM300. (Previously regardless amount)

I would think just as simple as this. But for amendment, next time Maybank better come out with before & after. Haha.

they will come out with new T&Cs because it's literally product feature revision.

just like previous 5% weekend for all transactions --> 5% weekend for dining only. New T&Cs came out just for that.

you'll never knew what other features may be impacted too (e.g. TreatsPoints earning) which is currently in grey area.

maybank may do a curve-ball on the new T&Cs for the new benefits, best is wait for the official source of the full T&Cs.

Ow......that is the story huh.

My personal interpretation would be
1) Yes. If change, then they shall stated it out.
2) All remain as per previous, except now petrol above rm 300 will only get 1TP.

If there is anything that isn't clear, this is the one. Whether it is RM300 per transaction or RM300 per month.

is there any apparent benefit between gold and platinum apart from a possible increased credit limit?
