I believe what is holding them back are actually the numbers and volume. For example, when I spoke to some folks in a local bank who implemented Samsung Pay, the numbers were just too low. This is because after cutting through the population of Android users, it's then specific to Samsung phones and then certain Samsung phones. Since the launch of Samsung Pay then until now, the eWallets have grown tremendously and they did a lot of the heavy lifting, like A LOT of heavy lifting, which is MERCHANT acquisition and training. Most of the time if you want to pay with Samsung Pay which you can pay with it, the staff at the retail outlets or shops probably don't know that they work. This is what eWallets like Grab, Boost, TnG and FAVE have been investing in training the merchant staff on how to handle it. The more trained they are in any of those platforms, the more they will easily accept it.
TLDRSounds like it’s the merchant staffs’ problem that they do not want/not eager to learn. Ever since I had my AP activated and I went to like 7-11 or 99, I always have to say “card” or “wave” then only they understand. If I did say like, “bayar fon”, they will instantly ask you which eWallet. So tbh, jus tell the staff u wan to pay with card or wave, then it’s fine already.
As for the SP, it’s mmg Sammy’s fault. Only certain number of phones can use SP and not everyone can use it. On the other hand, AP is literally on every iPhone (after 6/6s. Cnt rmb which) so technically, AP would have a higher success rate compared to SP. Although SP and AP are similar, they can’t really be compared as their spread/influence is different.
And tbh, after seeing what Thebestscammer ‘s reasoning, it makes a little to no sense for banks to launch it this year as everyone is staying home but hey, once the vaccination rate goes up, who knows the gov will open more sectors and people will start heading out again. Also, who knows maybe this year’s iPhone and Watch launch in MY will launch tgt with AP which maybe it is in Apple MY’s roadmap. I’ve been seeing AARs spamming with reasons why ppl should buy AW or even showing they can buy AW with instalments. Prior to this, they have not been heavily promoting AW at all so why the sudden mass promoting?
Ok I just realised this reply is no longer a TLDR. 😂 It’s now a TLLR (too long lazy read)
