QUOTE(yenchenje @ Jul 15 2022, 05:17 PM) Already currently using Maybank as my main, but I’d like OCBC starts implementing it first.. then yeah haha. For the merchant I’m sure it’s just the merchant being stubborn and require actual cards(as weird as that may be), but if Apple Pay launches I reckon it’s gonna give more exposure to the general about this whole kerfuffle about using contactless payments(besides e wallets). I tell you, sometimes when they let us scan their DNQR and they go bonkers when they see u use another eWallet app vs their QR's app. It all boils down to the merchant willing to teach their staff to not go bonkers when see other eWallet app. As for accepting AP or not by merchant, I believe they are NOT supposed to disallow us to not pay via AP as the interchange fee is sure to be passed on to consumers. Plus, if I were to use my AP now to scan at even Mr DIY, it will get through. So let's hope that there's no difference in MDR so they wont come and block us from paying with AP.

Here in JB some merchants would just freak out when I say I’m using PayWave but I pull out my phone as they expect me to use eWallet QR, but in KL every merchant I go to is like, yeah sure. There really is more that needs to be done to educate people about using contactless without physical card.

QUOTE(Susuwatari @ Jul 16 2022, 09:58 AM) I thought a lot of Singaporeans will be using it? In City Square/Southkey area is more common for Singaporeans to use SP/AP I feel like, anywhere further than that not really. I’ve been transferred to my workplace branch at Southkey and have encountered one customer from Singapore that was using AP. Like no “makan angin” Singaporeans would go to anywhere further than there. Which is why it’s less common beyond Southkey.

Imagine the horror when people use Samsung MST to pay and the staff are not aware of such technology.

QUOTE(papyrous @ Jul 16 2022, 04:24 PM) Imagine the horror when people use Samsung MST to pay and the staff are not aware of such technology. Recently I feel like JB merchants have been exposed to more Apple Pay/Google Pay from Singaporeans, it's not the greatest before COVID started but now it's slowly getting traction again with Singaporeans entering JB again.

It all depends, there's not really a "more" ratio from one to another. If I had to choose to see, I'd say more people just use CC/DC since it's just wave. For QR you'll actually have to use your phone, open an app and scan. I'd reckon most people only use QR to get rewards/cashbacks, and not for the convenience.

Usually if I want to use my Apple Pay (which is using my Visa card), I just inform the cashier "Visa" and then tap my watch on the reader. Mentioning PayWave or Apple Pay may confuse them further and they would say tak terima hahaha. But at the moment I use it for mini transactions / small purchases, I saw some postings that if there are transactional disputes or errors, it will be hard to reverse etc?

Yep same I just tell them Visa and sometimes wave. Anything else they'll say "Sorry x leh ya". And for large purchases I think it's dependant, but if I had to guess Apple's probably will be taking that way better than SPay. We pay a little fee to them as well, so I expect better services in general haha.

QUOTE(ultra_nyamuk @ Jul 18 2022, 10:32 PM) How are you guys actually using apple pay in Malaysia? I cant even add a card If you have a card from a supported country, you can actually just change your iPhone region settings to whatever the country of issue is and add it to Apple Wallet. Eg you have a Singapore OCBC card, you can just change your region to Singapore and Apple Wallet will unlock the adding card function.

Apologies, I won’t be able to answer to all (and also deliberately trying to hold back some key information).
To summarise: 1) Apple Pay will indeed be available/supported in Malaysia via Malaysian-based Financial Institutions (FIs), in the near future i.e. soon 2) There will be a mix of local and foreign FIs 3) In order for your plastic(s) to work, it has to be pre-registered and pre-authorised prior.
Hope this clarifies.
