Hi Guys ,

I just came back yesterday from our trip to Hokkaiddo - specifically Sapporo > Asahikawa > Rusutsu > Sapporo.
Throughly enjoyed the trip.
My first look at this thread so would like to share my experience on the above ...

Our group bought quite a few bottles of Sake (Yamakuchi) and other liquors - tax-free in Sapporo . Some decided to check in carefully with their luggage but I decided to hand carry them across Japan custom point. Dont' !!! You will not be allowed past security check - sealed bags or not !! I have to turn back and check those bottles in with a 'where to find right now box " ! Quite unnerving when you are very near boarding time. But plus point to security officer to lead us back to AA check-in counter and allow us to 'jump queue' otherwise ...

No comments on the allowed quantity or tax .. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif . For us all thumbup.gif thumbup.gif after that hiccup.

i've confirmed by some frequent taiwanese that if u claim tax refund
they will seal the bag and u can't open the bag until u leave japan
*
Yes and No.

By law, you cannot open until you leave Jp. But mostly Jp immigration don't check your luggage. I also got open the seal bag cos can't really fit the whole thing inside my luggage laugh.gif They don't even took out the tax refund paper in my passport that time.

Just careful on the liquid quantity limit and also alcohol stuff.

very good except when you're passing a tunnel (if you're riding a shinkansen) which will last only 1-2 minutes of your time in Japan lol

Anyone been to DisneySea for New Year's Eve ? The crowd estimator is like 90%. Is it really that bad ? Main point just to go in and capture photo . Rides are secondary

Before check-in, standard liquid rules apply. Nothing to do with tax free. I think this example will help others as well. smile.gif. Once you check, you can also buy in those tax free shops inside. However they will check your passport and might not allow you to buy more than your destination countries allowed.

Can I ask whether the New Chitose Airport duty free shops are open early in the morning? I am taking the flight back to KL from Sapporo via AAX (9.20am).

I noticed most of the shops were not opened when we arrived after 7:30am.Took the first Airport Limousine bus 5:29am from Susukino area. By the way the International departure hall are shuttled closed before 7:30 am .We were planning to have breakfast there but no deal. We did bought some stuff from a shop at the entrance area but after that it's such a mad rush that I doubt you will have anytime to do shopping unless you are the very first in line. I took the same 9:20 AA flight. Now I remember why I had 20 minutes less ... nearly forgot to redeem my Kitaca card and the JR counter at BF1 opened in the nick of time when we went down after getting our boarding passes.

For AAX flight back to KL, if you reach before 7am, you should able to drop your luggage in 10 mins. Because most ppl start ariving around 6.50am~7.30am. The custom gate open around 7.45am.

i took their normal cab from susukino area to airport, it took me ~12000 yen. cry.gif

I not sure how big was your 4 luggage. but I can tell you about Japan taxi 90% are Toyota Crown.
I try the trunk capacity. Maximum can fit in 24'' luggage x 3 due to most taxi have NGV gas cylinder at back of trunk.

If you can found diesel type Toyota crown then can fit 4 x 24'' luggage. no problem at all.

Last week when we were there, it drizzled on and off.

Hi, want some suggestion or comments on a portion of my trip. I intend to go Hakone/Kawaguchiko area this Sunday and my plan is to purchase the Fuji Hakone Free Pass.

Sunday -
Morning - travel from Shinjuku to Hakone via Odawara
I intend to follow the Round Course recommended on japan-guide.com before checking into a hostel.

Monday
Go to Lake Saiko in the morning and look look see see. Specific places include Ice Cave, Wind Cave and Aokigahara
Check into a hostel at Kawaguchiko.

Tuesday,
Look around Kawaguchiko and Yamanakako before heading back to Odawara to take train back to Shinjuku

Does anyone know how long would it take to go to Saiko from Hakone?
Wondering if I have time to stop by Gotemba either before going to Saiko or on my way back to Odawara.
