if buying iPhone in Japan
http://www.apple.com/jp/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-7/
this price tag is it exclusive their GST?
¥83,800 (税別)

do Japan Apple sell unlocked iPhones?

do tourists enjoy GST/VAT exemption?
*
That price is not inclusive of tax. Since you can get tax exemption you pay that amount when you buy it from Apple store. As far as I know phone is unlock as I see lots of tourist buying it in Ginza Apple Store.

Thanks for the map. Normal people allocate fullday for disney as they got ample time but I don't have enough time to cover all place  laugh.gif
For Disneysea, I will take after 6 passport for 4200yen. Need to calculate my time, if cannot reach disney around 6pm then i need to cut one place and put it to other days  sweat.gif
Edit : do i need to buy metro pass as well?
*
To go all the way and just do 1/2 day in disney sea? You go there just for the 20mins fireworks? It will be very rush and I am not sure if you will be able to enjoy your holidays. Unless of course you are doing Amazing race.

Metro pass allows you only to take Metro Line and not JR line. If you buy it then you really have to plan your trip well. Sometimes JR Line and Metro Line can take you from point A to point B but JR is faster. Or will walking and you decide to move to point B, JR is right infront but metro is 10 mins walk away.

Hello all!

I'm planning for 11 days 10 nights trip! On November
From 7th-17th

There's a few questions wanna ask..

Do I need to carry thick shirts and umbrella? I'm not really sure would it be cold although according to the information I found it's around 15c-23c.
Need some good advice on this.
My flight is departing from KUL - OSAKA

7th-11th staying in OSAKA

Planning to take night bus to Tokyo on the 11th, so I should be arriving in Tokyo in the morning where I actually save cost for 1 night.

12th-14th staying in Tokyo

Leaving on the 14th from Tokyo to Kyoto

14th-17th

on the 17th I'll be going back to Osaka and back to Msia.

Should I get JR pass?

Any recommendation? Besides about my transports and which location is the best and the location I should be staying at.

Thanks!
*
Depends if you can tahan the cold or not. I can still live with a tshirt if its 20C. Also if you walk a lot you will sweat and feel hot as well. A normal jacket that you use in Msia should be fine. However with global warming no one will no for sure how cold/hot. Its middle of summer here in Tokyo but we are getting temperature of less than 20C. Normally its above 30C.

As for JR pass, forget about it if you are already taking the bus from Kyoto to Tokyo. As someone mention its only worth iif at least you travel from Osaka<-> Tokyo using Shinkansen.
No tips on hotel though, as I live in Tokyo

I planning to overnight at Arima Onsen. I try to look around, most of the Ryokan Onsen cost a bomb.

Any recommendation with budget ~RM1000 (25k yen)/room for 2 pax included Kobe beef dinner?

And I did research and understand, those with tattoo are not allow in Onsen. Any onsen that you guys come across that allow?
*
25K with Kobe beef and 2 person, I dont think so. Even for 1 people its difficult. If you are in Japan look for Matsuzaka beef instead of Kobe Beef. These beef are higher rank and only available in Japan and not exported.

Anyone in Tokyo today and for another week or so? How's the weather? I'm counting days for my flight now.
*
It has been raining for the past week. And weather is forecast to be raining as well this week. There is some typhoon, but not expected to hit Tokyo. Temperature is pretty nice, average 25C and sometimes 20C which is very rare in Tokyo.

Good news. I just changed my JR pass n also ask bout Tokyo Wide Pass. It can be bought at selected JR station. I'm at shinjuku  station now biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, Typhoon 18 will miss Tokyo and the next few days will be very cooling. In fact weather for the last few days is really nice.

No, You cannot make payment inside train to upgrade from Unreserve to reserve.
If you get caught by doing this (using Unreserve ticket but sit inside reserve coach, you will end up in police station)
*
So serious meh? Not all trains right? Some trains like shinkansen or some other train you can pay on the spot. Cant remember the line, but I took express train from Hitachi to Tokyo. I was in a rush I just bought the train ticket. Then I pay for the reserve seat ticket to the conductor.

I'm going for 10 days. 2 days would be the compulsory Mt Fuji and Hakkonne, one day at Roppongi / Odaiba , Disney Sea , I have a rough sketch on location and using Odaigo to route my way easier. Now we just can't decide to buy Metro or JR pass since JR are more on the bigger places while Metro covers more smaller places etc .

Now one worry is my flight arriving is night at 10.30pm and Air Asia famous for tunggu sedikit, etc etc would be done by 11.30pm minimum so pretty scared on train cause our Airbnb is at Shin-Ohkubu which needs intertrain keiku- shinjuku - shin Okubu, whereas the bus heck need to find out .

Any of you guys night flight like mine can share what transportation you think best to take incase the train station closes at midnight?
*
If you are just sticking to one o.r two places a day, just forget about passes. Gives you more flexibility

If you did not mention, I wouldnt know suica have limited use in kansai. I guess I will just use cash while I am at Kansai area.
*
Since two years back (or last year, cant remember), they have harmonized all the cards in Japan, and you can use your Suica in most of the railways, even in Kansai. I cannot speak for all lines in Kansai but I have been there a few time this year for business and no issue with my Suica.

QUOTE(1st @ Oct 20 2016, 06:05 PM)
dear Sifu Sifu sekalian,

Im travelling to Japan April 2017. As its my first time going to Japan i have some questions on the electrical appliances that I am bring.

well first and foremost would be my phone charger. I heard from some friends that charging the phone is  super sloooooow.

2. hair dryer, hair curlers etc would not be usable due to the voltage?
3. Alternatively, Im bringing a few power bank for the pocket wifi and phone but would charging the power bank itself take a long time as well?
4. I know what there are universal travel adapter available but would I still be unable to use the hair dryer i am bringing or even charge my phone at the normal pace?

I would appreciate a recommendation on a good travel adapter as well.
*
Handphones and power bank will not be an issue. I have powerbank and phone bought from Malaysia and so far the charging time is quite fast. I guess it depends on your phone or power bank.

As for hair dryer I dont think adapter will work with your hair dryer as its emitting heat. You need a transformer. My house have 2 powerful transformer as I move all my entertainment unit here. However things like rice cooker, washing machine, hair dryer I leave it at home.

June?
*
End of April will not be the peak of Sakura. In fact it might even be over unless global warming changes the weather drastically. June is normally raining season in Japan and the only month without any Public Holiday.

i have been trying to talk her out of seeing the sakura but she insist to be there and I don't want her to go there and there's no flowers and all this rushing will be for nothing.

I want October because we have more time to save up and we avoid the holidays and crowd and enjoy Japan to the fullest. I'm almost getting into an argument with her as we speak.
*
Cna you show her facts?? Or at least the history when is the eak of Sakura season? Funny that she insist to see sakura but not in sakura season....its like I want to see snow in the summer...
