What happen if I just buy the Train Ticket without the Reserve ticket ?
Will I be able to get a seat after boarding the train or I will have to stand all
the way to my destination?

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Oct 13 2016, 11:12 AM) Limited Express // Shinkansen You must have 2 Ticket Sifu I am really confused with the reserve and unreserved seat issue. One is Train Ticket. One is Reserve Seat Ticket or Unreserve Seat Ticket Normal Local Train like our KTM Commuter & Subway & Tram Only one Train Ticket Example: JR Haruka Limited Express from Kansai Airport to Kyoto fare are 1880 Yen + 1450 for Reserve Seat or 1150 for Unreserved Seat On your Question: You have to Pay 1880 Yen Train Fare + 1150 for Unreserved Seat Fare Inside Unreserved Seat coach, all seat are 1st come 1st serve. Even you got seat, during half way you get up form seat going toilet, someone will take over your seat. My apology to you for being unable to comprehend your explanation. I would really appreciate it if Sifu can enlighten me by pointing out anything that I may have missed in the following scenario. I will be travelling to Osaka next week. From Kansai Airport if I will to take the Haruka Ltd. Express to Shin Osaka 1. Under normal circumstances I have to Pay 1360 Yen + 1490 yen Total 2850 Yen. 2. Alternatively if I buy the ICOCA discount ticket one way which will cost me 1300 yen. Does the price 1300 yen inclusive of the reserved seat charges? or otherwise I have to pay 1300 yen + 1490 yen for the reserved seat. Thank you. You have been very helpful all along. |

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Oct 13 2016, 01:35 PM) If you buy Icoca + Haruka Combo. your Haruka Train fare will be 1300 Yen but Reserve Seat still cost you 1490 Yen If I have a unreserved seat ticket and I get into a reserved seat car, so can I make the payment for the reserved seat in the car itself. Or will I be penalized? In Japan Train is Train...seat is seat, they are separated charges. |

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Oct 13 2016, 02:13 PM) No, You cannot make payment inside train to upgrade from Unreserve to reserve. So that mean I have to buy the reserve seat ticket together with the train ticket at one go.If you get caught by doing this (using Unreserve ticket but sit inside reserve coach, you will end up in police station) |

Anyone had experienced existing Central Gate after arriving at Shin Osaka sattion via Haruka Ltd express from Kansai Airport?
Reading from the Shin Osaka Train Station map we arrived at the platform and take an escalator up to the third floor concourse area. But the problem is the Central Gate is located at the Shinkansen side. So my question is whether are we allowed to walk through the Shinkansen concourse to exit at the Central Gate. Sifu sifu please help because I am leaving on this coming Saturday. |

QUOTE(kcleong18 @ Oct 17 2016, 09:02 AM) According to this website and not from my experience ... If I exit East exit then hoe do I go to the Central Exit and move to the Exit No.6 beside Modisuji Subway Station ticket gate.http://jprail.com/travel-informations/basi...-and-namba.html you can use the east exit for conventional line only . I believe this includes track #11 for Limited Express Haruka. To me an exit is an exit .... Have a nice trip ... kc Thanks |

QUOTE(kcleong18 @ Oct 17 2016, 11:22 AM) Again you can find this on the internet ... Thanks pal. Your advices are of tremendous help to me.http://www.osakacoronahotel.co.jp/en/access.html This shows you the way from Central exit to east exit so you will have to reverse the guide's direction. I learned somewhere that " All exits are connected .. so if you can exit 1 point you can connect to another exit. " |

Just returned from a short trip to Osaka/Kyoto (5D4N).
Wish to share some of our experience which may be helpful to those who are contemplating to visit Osaka soon. Flight: Low cost Carrier. Accommodation: Hotel in Shin Osaka which is only 7 minutes walk from Shin Osaka Station/ Midosuji Subway Station. The downside is the hotel room is relatively small and can only accommodate a couple but not family with a child tagging along. We have no complaint about the room in term of cleanliness and friendliness of the hotel receptionist. But talking about the size of the room, I would believe this the norm in any of the travel class hotel in Japan. The easy access to the train and subway stations is of tremendous help to us in reaching Nara ,Kyoto and Down town Osaka. Sightseeing: 1st Day we began our tour by taking JR train to Kyoto and subsequently transfer to JR train for Nara to reach Inari. We spent around two hours in Inari but did not attempt to walk up to the peak of the hill. Then we continue our journey to Nara by taking the JR train for Nara. From JR Nara Station we took a short bus ride to reach the Deer Park/Todaiji Temple. The bus Station is situated just right beside the JR train station. We spent the whole afternoon in Nara. We returned to JR Nara Station by taking the bus we earlier took (we were too tired to take the walk back to the station. It should be around a Kilometer ) Reurn to Shin Osaka by JR special Rapid which took around 30-40 minutes. To be continued. |

Second Day: Took JR Train to go to Kyoto. Reached JR Kyoto station and headed to the bus station which is just right in front of the Central Exit. Proceeded to board Bus No.100 and got off at Gojo-zaka bus stop to visit Kiyomizu Temple. It was an uphill walk to reach the temple. You definitely would not feel bored because the passage are lined with shops on both sides selling snacks, souvenir and Kimono for rental.
After visiting Kiyomizu temple, we walked through Sannezaka, Ninenzaka, kodiji Temple, Maruyama Park,Yasaka Shrine and Gion area. Honestly speaking it was quite a long walk, but luckily the weather was kind to us. Proceeded through Shijo street to head to Nishiki Market. Lunched and shopping at the Nishiki Market. Spent the 2 to 3 hours there. Headed back to Umeda by taking Hankyu Kyoto Line from Kawaramchi station . From Umeda Station walked through Umeda district to visit Osaka Sky Building. Returned to Hotel by taking Subway Midosuji Line. |

Third Day: After bread fast headed to Shin Osaka Station. There was slight drizzle and the weather was cold, I supposed it should be around 12 degrees. We proceeded to our first destination- Osaka Castle by taking Midosuji Lie to Hommachi and transferred to Chuo Line and got off at Tanimaci 4-chome Station. Umbrellas/wing breaker became handy because it was still drizzling. We walked all the way to Osaka Park and the drizzle finally stopped. Osaka Park is definitely very huge so we just covered a small portion of it and proceeded to buy ticket to visit Osaka Castle. Spent the whole morning there.
We walked back to Tanimai 4-chome station and to take the Chuo Line to Hommachi Station. Our initial plan is to walk from Hommachi to Shinsaibashi but the sky started to get cloudy and rain began to fall. So as an alternative we took the Midosuji Line and got off at the next stop e.g Shinsaibashi Station. We spent the whole afternoon in Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori area because the rain was getting heavier. Shopping and eating okonomic, octopus balls, ice cream and many more which I got confused with their names. Head back to hotel by taking Subway Midosuji Line. Our visit to Osaka was indeed very brief, so much so that we had missed out many tourist spots like Arashiyama and Kinkakuji . But Japan has given us such a good and deep impression that we will return very soon if not Osaka again then may be Hokaiddo/Sapporo. |
