Is your WS880 still working fine?

I had two units, one in my house and another in my parents house. Both are flashed to Asuswrt. It seem like the router is almost dying or overheating. I took apart some part of the router, mill a hole, and stick a fan to cool it. It worked for a couple weeks and then start to hang again. Took it apart, apply thermal paste here and there to solve the hang. It seem to help but both unit also exhibit intermittent internet connectivity through WiFi. I think the router is known to exhibit this problem even when I first got it but once few times a day. Right now it can exhibit this problem few times in an hour which can be annoying.

Placed an order for Tenda AC18 to try and see if the router is really dying or what.

For those who is running XWRT-VORTEX 380.70

Here is another alternative from Koolshare_Merlin
https://firmware.koolshare.cn/Koolshare_Mer...0/Huawei/WS880/

I didn't try it yet, as my 2 WS880 routers are now in my parents house, away from me.
More or less they are the same 380.70, however Koolshare has more tweak to the features and much more easier to manage entware.

Hi, how's the method for upgrading?
Is it just simply uploading the firmware?

You are using which firmware now?
If running merlin/vortex then it is straight update.

If still running Huawei firmware pls go back to page 1 to start reading.

Anyhow, I didn't have chance to test those firmware, since router at parent home.

Try at your own risk.

Thanks, need some help after reaching CFE page, after I upload the xrt firmware, it was sending request then i got connection time out after a few minutes (not 24mb uploaded).
After I restart normally, i see internet led blinking only (no wifi name or anything).
Doesn't seem like it completed the firmware upgrade or did I just bricked mine?

Did you using CFE editor to edit your bin file correctly and flash the router with the edited bin file before upload to merlin firmware?

If you have fail to upload, did you try or manage to access the CFE mode with the IP you set in the bin file?

Yeah, already done that for the bin file correctly and flashed it
Seems like I keep getting timeout when accessing CFE web page
Btw, I set my ip to static (192.168.1.2) to access it

Btw, how's Koolshare_Merlin working out for you so far? What are some extra features does it bring actually?

Get a Cal-lab lightning arrestor, made in Malaysia and it works for me perfectly, the cal-lab device will sacrifice itself to protect valuable electronic devices.

I had the 2x WS880 Router installed at my parents running XRT-WRT and have been running years without problem except for problem from unifi fibre optic cables.

Don't feel like testing or updating to Koolshare as I don't see the benefit since both are running same version - 380.70.
Although benefit from Koolshare, it is more customization for the Entware/Optware apps.

The reason i ask was to get feedback / some users review on belkins or cal lab as the better choice .
further i note that the cal lab device have no tech specs info on its website .

Nope, never use surge protector unfortunately. The devices lasted a long time so it was time to replace anyway, both premises now using Mesh wifi (TP-Link Deco M9 Plus)
