Getting Started

QUOTE(andrekua2 @ Mar 22 2021, 01:45 PM) Thermal pad gone... Also had two WS880. Given up after almost daily hang. Refused to buy thermal pad and I just used a lot of thermal paste and it was good for few months then start to hang again. Change to Tenda AC18 and it boosted my parents house Unifi speed. I already cracked open the case and install a fan to cool it but still hang. I see. Thats really bad. Maybe thats why they sold it so cheap last time. Fan also not doing anything?

QUOTE(Gregar Forte @ Mar 22 2021, 04:12 PM) I see. Thats really bad. Maybe thats why they sold it so cheap last time. Fan also not doing anything? Yeah. Before the constant hang, I already added a fan after cutting open 2 big hole in the case. After I added a fan, it only hang once or twice a month. Then it started to hang very often after 6months or so. Thats when I really dismantled everything and found that the thermal pad are not doing enough. Buying replacement thermal pads is expensive and I also thought of buying aluminium sheet but decided against it since it is just cheaper to buy used router. Bought 2 Tenda AC18 for RM100 each and problem solved.

Strange you guys have so many problems.
My WS880 is problem-free up to now.
I am using a Coolermaster fan though.

QUOTE(colmi @ Jun 9 2022, 12:35 PM) My Huawei WS880 is still running strong with Xwrt-Vortex 380.66 firmware My one also has been running 24 x 7 for past 6 years without any fan attached, solid router and no issue at all. Too bad the firmware no longer get updated, which is a security concern.

QUOTE(colmi @ Jun 10 2022, 06:11 AM) I have not encountered any security issues with it so far. Try Google for Asus cyclops blink. Recently I also changed 2 unit of WS880 to Tenda Ac18 at my parent house due to concern with security and also wanted to move to Aimesh setup for easier configuration. Otherwise WS880 is a solid and beautiful router. If anyone interested, it is for sale else this keep as spare at the moment.

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Jun 10 2022, 10:37 PM) Belum kena. Dah kena, padan muka My opinion is still pretty safe using WS880 as long as remote administrator access and ssh./telnet login has been disabled from external access and more importantly changed username and password. Default username and password is the easier to hack.

One of the most scariest part is when your network is compromised and no one knew about it. They lingering inside that environment undetected and leaving no traces. They could be targeting for certain resource or simply make your vulnerable devices as part of they botnet/attack vector.
Anyway, I replaced my WS880 with AC86U where it eventually died after 2 years and now I'm pretty happy running with AX series mesh.
