I was browsing WIFI router last weekend at Lowyat plaza, and I spot a rarely seen router - Huawei WS880 AC1750 wifi router.

Since it is broadcom chipset, it is supported by ASUSWRT and Tomato firmware, I managed to flash the firmware to ASUSWRT-MERLIN, and it detected WS880 as AC68U

It even supports UNIFI and Maxis broadband out of the box

The speed is awesome, I can get full speed of UNIFI 30Mbps even I sit at the far corner of 1st floor while my router is sitting at the ground floor living room

This router is no longer available at Lowyat, possibly not even available in Malaysia.

Thanks!

But are you sure of the pricing (below RM200)?

It seems awfully cheap for an AC1750-class router.

if it is really priced below RM200 at Sri Computer Hypermarket, then it is the super good deal. as i found on vmall the price is RM599, the cheapest i found is on lelong RM359

Yes, below RM200 seems too good to be true, but the RM359 pricing in Lelong seems legit. smile.gif

Could be clearance price? If really below 200, then really worth it even for use as plain access point. Far better than homeplug or those overpriced single band asus router.

The RM359 price in Lelong is already a 'clear stock' price as indicated.

What do you call a 'below RM200' price? biggrin.gif

kiding Looks like a very good deal. What do you mean by "just below RM200 price tag"? How much did you buy it for? Any T&C?

Thanks, much better, "just below RM200" was equivocal at best. This is 1/4 the price of the AC66U, 1/5 the AC68U.

Surely Asus owners must question the pricing strategy of Asus routers.

Specs (unconfirmed):
Seems to be dual-core BCM4708 (same as RT-AC68U)
RAM is 128MB(?)
Antenna gain: 2dBi
Output power: 27 dBm

user posted image

If this is correct, it has dual core BCM4708(?) Suddenly it is a cheap AC68U alternative!

Firmwares:
AsusWRT-Merlin
Tomato by Shibby
http://xvtx.ru/xwrt/about.htm
Mikrotik RouterOS (Just kidding, how I wish)

Must get one soon!

Any idea about the specs? CPU? Does it have the dual-core BCM4708 (RT-AC68U) or the BCM4706 (RT-AC66U)?

It is same spec as AC68U. Noticed this router supported in tomato shibby arm build last year. Just no idea it is sold here & at such low price.

kiding How was the original firmware? I couldn't find any manuals or screenshots of it. Must be terrible since you flashed it to ASUSWRT so quickly.

I will go to Sri Computers today to buy one unit.

Then will upload AdvancedTomato firmware and use it for UniFi. thumbup.gif

The original firmware is quite good as well, just it only supports Dyndns service, which requires yearly subscription fee, so I flash it quickly to ASUSWRT, which support free DDNS service. Anyway, I have been using openwrt and tomato for years, so I already get used to the features and flexibility of these opensource firmware

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely getting one when I go to LYP next week. Hope they still have it in stock.

Once you've had a play with it. Let us know:

1. Which is your preferred firmware?
2. How's the SMB transfer rate from a USB3 ext HD? (maybe can use as a cheap NAS too)

btw, to be fair to the Huawei, you gotta change from AC66U alternative to AC68U alternative. smile.gif

raynman Buy already? Review, review, review...
