Btw, I found this unit has 802.11k/v (the roaming method which Netgear Orbi is using) supported after flashing to AsusWRT, according to wifianalyzer on Android, not sure if it's working.

With 802.11k/v, basically it can work with any router as an AP with fast roaming capability, just plug in LAN cable and set it to AP mode, your connection will automatically switch to the nearest AP (once ur devices has below -70dBm, it will start to look for stronger AP) automatically.

If anyone out there still using this WS880 with AsusWRT mod, remember to set your Wi-Fi txpower to 25%, any higher will drop your Wi-Fi speed greatly

my experience with iPhone XS Max:
25% 510mbps
50% 370mbps
100% 275mbps

You might notice the Wi-Fi bar will drop a bit by setting it to 25%, but the actual coverage doesn't have much difference, this might due to this WS880 antenna design doesn't handle high power well and created a lot of noise or a bug of this AsusWRT mod

Anyone dares to try this:
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r....ucket=12#detail

It's pre-flashed with AsusWRT-Merlin biggrin.gif

200MHz faster than RT-AC68U
The only downside is it looks like boobs laugh.gif

Yeap, saw that too
And with that kind of design, it's hard to mount a fan as the exhaust holes is at the top laugh.gif

Ya, and BCM4709A cpu is kinda out dated, struggles while running 800mbps download, MT7621 perform better in handling gigabit speed

I ran speedtest and pingportal at the same time, monitor ping while downloading and uploading speed test
CPU Ping(+download)(+upload)
MT7621 3ms(9ms) (15ms)
BCM4708 3ms(14ms) (24ms)

Also, MT7621 can hit max download speed within a second, 0% CPU usage. 4708 can only hit max speed after 3 seconds, like climbing hill, slowly increase speed, 100% CPU usage

4708/4709 was once a high-end CPU, but now MT7621 is newer and cooler, with many accelerators, better for handling gigabit speed
