Just got out from sri computer.. they still have more than 30 units based on my observation.. someone already ordered 20 units.. i took 5 units for myself,  family members and mr loo as well...

Price is still RM199.. was told that they originally sold the router at about RM400 plus before this..
*
Bought one today around 1130AM... they got hella lot of stock. I think ppl no confidence in Huawei product. Most people are not aware Huawei is a big player in telecommunication sector nowadays. On the shelf still have 20 or so unit and they also got it next to the payment counter on the other end which has few stack of it.

Im going to try it today at my parents house to see it help improved the slow wifi or not. If work, then only buy another one for myself. Want to buy one for office but we are stuck with Streamyx. Not much use.

DD-WRT Fork for WS880. Only for the brave!

https://github.com/tsynik/dd-wrt

DDWRT is also not bad. Used to to it with a Dlink router back then.

Stock firmware seem good enough. Out of box already support Unifi and Maxis FTTH (need to assign VLAN manually after selecting other). Even got IPTV setting.

After flashing WRT, no more choice right? Or can switch between DDWRT/TOMATO/ASUSWRT?

-Edited since I reached home and have a proper keyboard to type-

Looks like I finally solved the million ringgit problem that bug me since my parents moved into their new home. I had tried using all sort of solution from getting a few repeater to using powerlink and yet the slow wifi persist. I did suspect that the router didnt lived up to the expectation but there is really not much choice for a good budget router. I thought I had range problem but in reality, I had processing speed problem.

Removing one of the long range Asus RT-N14UHP and using the Huawei as main router cleared all the problem away. WiFi speed on all repeater and powerlink improved dramatically. My parents had two smart TV and loading Youtube took ages before this. Now it only took seconds. It also doesnt lag even when playing FHD, whereas it used to skip every few seconds even on HD. Im really satisfied with the purchase and considering a next one. I had the same Asus router at home but I didnt have any problem with it since I didnt had a repeater that reduced the effective bandwidth to half. Looking at the result, I must say Im very very tempted to upgrade but the design of the router suit me less. I had my Asus router hanging on the wall in the center of my house but I cant do that with the Huawei.

Im still with the stock firmware and it is pretty good.

1) how to disable WPS? actually i think i disabled it but the light is still on.

2) anyway to disable 2.4ghz? keeping only 5ghz?

thanks!!
*
With the stock firmware, I think is it possible to disable either one or both of the wifi frequency.

As for WPS, I had it disabled on the stock firmware too. I didnt noticed the light, need to check it tomorrow since the router already found a new home.

Just get it. I assure you that you will see huge improvement on WiFi coverage
Also, remember that the RM199 price won't last forever. The original price is RM399
*
I think Sri Computer doing the right thing. They also clear out mechanical keyboard last time. I bought a MX Brown for RM300. I dont think many people will be keen on Huawei products. It is a rare brand in PC market and I think Broadcom is on the verge of releasing a new product very soon IMO given that the die shrink has advance to 14nm lately.

Guys, just curious if this router will have better Wifi coverage compare to ASUS RT-55UHP?
*
Yours is UHP. This one is only using internal antenna. It would be faster, because it has 3T3R compared to yours 2T2R. If you are having coverage problem, then buy this to use a main router and use your Asus router in the center of the house as WiFi repeater. This way you would get good coverage.

I also used 2x RT-14UHP lastime to cover whole two storey but it seem like the main router was not able to handle the heavy wifi. Always lag. After I replaced the main router with huawei, the problem is now gone. I have been trying to solve this problem for 2 years by adding more repeater but it seem like my main problem was bandwidth and router cpu speed, not coverage.

Bought 2 units last night around 7pm. Still about 30+ units left. My estimation at the network area, router area
*
Definitely more than this number when I went there just now to pick up a second unit. But compared to yesterday, I would say plenty was sold in quick succession. The network rack units were untouched but the 3 stacks on WS880 at the other exit already become single stack today. Either they didnt moved out as much today or they already sold 2 stack in the last 24 hours.

my experience with UHP series has not been positive so far. implemented around 10 units for the past 2 years (12UHP/14UHP) and 6 units decommissioned due to wifi connection does not receive any data transmission after sometime (SSID connected with full bar). pretty sure is hardware defect, RMA'ed 2 units and still displayed similar issues after few months. firmware flashed with new and old version, also tried tomato with no fix at all.
*
Depends. I had 14UHP in my house and it work just fine. I didnt had any repeater connected to it. I only ran into problem in my parents house when I had two of them with one as main and the other as repeater. You do have to restart them after every few days. Not sure if Maxis was capping me or what. If I didnt restart, my torrent would stuck at 200kB/s versus 1MB/s after restart.

I told my boss I'm in dilemma to go to LYP or not after work because I'm just too lazy. He asked why and I told him about this router cheap price. He asked if I still have any tasks to do, I said I'm basically done for the day. He asked me to leave office and go to LYP. laugh.gif

Anyway, my friend is there and already helped me to buy. rolleyes.gif He told me there are still plenty, one whole full rack. biggrin.gif
*
I also there today. One shelf only... plus another stack at the counter. Yesterday 2 shelves. Really whole rack?

Looks like this router will cause dns problem with some older device like ipad2 on stock firmware. There's a solution though. Just goto DHCP settings, change to manual dns, enter Google dns and viola, even faster now.

Could any one share MAC address format you modify in the bin file?
*
At the top of your router, there is an information panel. Pull it out and you will have your mac address.

Are you on the stock firmware?

I have the same issue on the stock firmware. Weird bug indeed. A reboot solve the problem but it is very annoying when it happens.
*
Didnt you guys read?? I already posted the solution. Some adapter are not working fine with WS880.

Search for LAN>DHCP... there you can set DNS manually... then just enter google DNS la...
