haha no more warranty o
still sell rm 299 XD
i thinking get xiao mi router

this router got wrt features?
*
Xiaomi routers (mi-mini, mi-3, mi-nano) can flash padavan.
Padavan is also customs firmware for Asus routers.
Google about Prometheus scripts.

Using it for my mi-mini and mi-3, super stable like WRT.

My only complaint here is without gigabyte lan, thus my NAS storage limited at 12MB/s.

haha planning to order xiao mi router 3 XD
just worry about does it support the download torrent to external hdd or not
based on some topic i found all said are 0%
*
If not mistaken Xiaomi Router does support torrent download via its own MiWifi app.
Only try once, can't rate how it performing.

For the padavan firmware it also support torrent download, again I don't use it thus can comment much.

If can afford, I will recommended Mi-3 over Mi-mini for the reason of stronger wifi signal.

I have both and I can say mi 3 is not providing stronger wifi signal. The addition of 2 more antenna doesn't do much. I'd prefer Mi mini smaller footprint.  But since it's newer hardware(with 4 antennas), it might be beneficial for you in that sense.
*
I have both routers too, which I setup with Mi-Mini sitting next to my android box and the Mi-3 router sitting with one wall behind space apart around 1meter.

On default my android box with 5G will connect Mi-3 router because of stronger signal detected.

Again before I flashed with padavan firmware, Mi-Mini router give a very weak signal (sometimes breaking) when I'm in room farthest away room the router (3 walls in between) . When I changed to Mi-3 at the same setup the signal is stable and reach 20mbps.

Thus I do see better performance with the Mi-3 over Mi-mini.

Just my 2-cent.

I just brought the WS880 and flashed with the latest Xwrt-Merlin 380.63_2

I got it running and it has stronger wifi signals than my Xiaomi Mini and Mi-3 routers.

Both above rputers are able to configure with port forwarding for sftp and access to the routers webgui without problem. Both running Padavan firmware.

Now on WS800, I have problem with virtual/port forwarding function and enabled firewall.
The port forwarding on Merlin does not work.
I could only access my main router WS880 from internet but not the Xiaomi routers and my NAS server.

I'm using Asus ddns and previously I'm using no-ip.com
I checked on ipfingerprints, the only port is opened is for the port no 8080. (I have set 8082 & 8083 for Mi-3 and NAS).

Questions:-
Has anyone here successful configure port forwarding?
Which DDNS server are you using now?

Thanks

muncheno How your WD NAS is connected? Directly to the WS880 or through another router?
*
Directly to WS880.
The setup was working nicely when I was on Padavan withXiaomi Mini as main router.

Did you update the default gateway for the Nas and Mi router to ws880?
*
Default gateway is still the same 192.168.1.1, I only replace my Xiaomi Mini with WS880 as main router.

If I understand here most of you no problem with port forwarding?

Thanks.

Internet LED keep blinking.
What should i do ?
*
Before you update the CFE, may I know what is the router default ip? It is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1?

Then .bin file what IP, lan_ipaddr = 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 ??

I can't recall my upgrade now, but if I did recall correctly, I was having ip default as 192.168.0.1.
So I was having problem boot into emergence CFE boot to flash the modified .bin file.
So how manage to boot into it and flash the .bin.

As for me i'm using 192.168.1.1 instead my default 192.168.0.1.
If recall correctly here, the CFE boot doesn't reboot on it own. I was patience enough, so I waited long enough before I manual type the new ip address 192.168.1.1 into the browser to get CFE webgui.

Keyword for me is patience.

Just looking at ur comments here internet blinking doesn't or won't get much help. U did really explain what happens?

Cheers.

before this the ip address was 192.168.3.1 = this is the default software. After that i change the static ip address to 192.168.1.2 then i do all the step to boot to management page at ip address 192.168.1.1 then the problem happen when i click continue after i upload the .bin file
*
Unlock and Flash Procedure

1. Unplug the power cable from router
2. Hold on the reset key while plug in the power cable, hold the reset key for 20 secs then release
3. The router will boot the emergency upgrade page
4. Login to the 192.168.1.1 and flash the WS880_Trans.Bin file that you have modified
5. The router will reboot again, wait for few minutes, it will boot to CFE miniWeb Server page
6. Once it is booted to CFE miniWeb Server page, you may flash your favorite firmware

U suppose to boot into the emergence upgrade page using reset key.
R u saying 192.168.3.1 is emergency upgrade page?
And how u able to change ip to 192.168.1.2??

I have done the procedure but nothing happen, i can't boot into the emergency upgrade page.

192.168.3.1 is my default firmware ip.
I change ip to 192.168.1.2 from my pc at Network and Internet > Network Connections > LAN > right click > Properties > ipv4 > Properties ( i change this because i follow the guide from klseet )

Before this i manage to boot into the emergency upgrade page but after i click the continue the problem happen. [attachmentid=8248872]

Not sure this would help.
I would suggest you to try to boot to the emergence update webpage again with reset button holding while power on for 20sec.
Try different ip here 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1, 192.168.3.1. also make sure ur PC follow the subset ip. This is 192.168.X.2.

I notice the emergence update webpage only appear for short duration. So you want keep try with luck.

Once you able to get in, try flash again the .bin file and make sure u edited correctly.

Good luck.

then later i read about tomato firmware , it seems doable .. so thinking maybe flash this router to Tomato

by the way, if from Tomato firmware, it is possible to flash back to XWRT firmware?
*
As long you can boot into emergency boot mode, you can flash back Xwrt from tomato.

Yesterday tried to flash to Advance Tomato firmware but failed miserably.

At the moment, i am at xwrt firmware and try to upload tomato firmware via the web interface.

Before start to flash, I perform the following :

Backup current setting
Restore factory setting
Lastly is to upload the tomato firmware.
Flashing show successful and ask to reboot.

Turn off the power and then turn on back , wait for the router to boot up.

All lights turn on and seems normal.
Able to ping the gateway 192.168.1.1

However, when try to open the weblogin page 192.168.1.1 , the page cannot be display. Wait for 10 mins also same result.

Telnet to port 80 not able to connect .

Lastly need to reset the modem , goto CFE Emergency Boot page  to load back XWRT firmware

Anything that I miss during flash the firmware ?

While in tomato, did you clear NVRam before reboot?

All wireless devices.
I am on XWRT-VORTEX. Have the same issue on the stock firmware as well.
*
Do you know what is the temperatures of CPU and wifi are running?
Maybe it is too hot??

Maybe worthwhile to set schedule for the wifi to shutdown for 5-10mins every night, possibility this will solve your issue here.

I don't think, this can't be firmware related.
It happen to me once before on 2.4ghz wifi on my WS880 with 380.64 after months nvm restart the router. I still don't why it happen, but after i set schedule, I didn't see this issue till now.

Unrelated here, yesterday I also put a small cooling fan behind the router and it able to cool the CPU temperature from 70degc to 60degc, 5ghz wifi from 53 to 49degc and 2.4ghz from 50 to 46DegC.
I think this will improve the long term stability of the router.
