Proton S70
+ Sedan which I prefer but family likes SUV more due to more comfort
+ Turbo, can feel the power in their sport mode
+ Price point, well below 100k for all the goodies
+ Gadgets, lots of the new ADAS features
+ Can get more discount by trading in 20 year old car
- Fuel consumption since I'll be using this in cities more than highways
- Corner handling isn't that good when I test drove it

Mitsubishi Xforce (Haven't test drive, waiting for it on Saturday)
+ Bigger space, more comfort to family
+ Better interior design, aircond and sound system is nice
+ Better fuel economy in mix mode driving based on their promotion
+ RM5k rebate now.
- Engine power is same as current persona
- Lacking some of the ADAS features available in CN cars
= CVT transmission, will feel in highway but since I mainly use as a daily driver in cities, won't be feeling that much.
= JP branding, if in the past, will play some in decision making but nowadays, almost same nia

Proton eMAS7 PHEV (Haven't test drive)
+ Latest offering with good price point and lots of interesting interior stuff
+ Best fuel economy
+ Can get discount by trading in 20 year old car
- Service centres are few and far in between
- House doesn't have battery charging and I read recommended is to charge it at least 1 weekly which will be difficult
- Car will be parked outside so heat probably will degrade battery fast

TBH the SA I am dealing with for my family member's new S70 only offering tinting (not voucher is actual tinting but I won't expect premium quality also) and DDPAI dashcam

After nego he added petrol (no full tank) + coil mat + trunk tray + cashback (<RM100) + the usual Proton goodies like umbrella

If someone have better package or idea what else to ask for can suggest here

Just my luck. supposed to pickup the car today but had to decline after looking at the QC state of the car. Very noticeable panel gaps when compared to other S70s. Paint drips/stalactites here and there. Roof panel above the front windshield is noticably higher on one side while the other is flushed in. the right side tail lights is senken in while the left side is flush with body.

They tried making me take the car back first and bring it back next week Monday. I declined since I don't have the time to play their game. Firmly declined to take the car until all the "minor" issues are ironed out.

Everything else seems fine interior and engine.

Would like to attach image, but will hold off until they "fix" it first. If not fixed then will share them 😄

Thanks for sharing

Right decision to stand firm not to accept a new car with so many flaws

After comparing cars and models over the weekend and test driving all of them, compiled them in a table below.
Considering the high cost of maintenance for SUV, I think I will pass on them this time around and plan to upgrade to them next time.
For now, I guess I'm stuck between the Proton S70 and Toyota Vios HEV.

Surprisingly, the S70 maintenance is quite expensive, taking Proton's service schedule into consideration. It's definitely the most expensive of them all.
The RV depreciation doesn't help much as well but it is definitely more comfortable than the vios.
Hmm, decisions, decisions....

very nice table.

no interest in the city hybrid? since honda more aggressive in terms of discounts i think.

Thanks and yea, 1234 by ranking, 4 highest, 1 lowest.
Was thinking about the honda but have heard some bad reviews on the newer models. Pricing wise, it's currently the same as the vios with all the discounts included.

then abit surprising to me that handling wise s70 is the worst. not that i believe in the so-called lotus handling, but sedan should fare better than suvs.

Two aspects that made me score the S70 that low. Firstly, the S70 cornering isn't that solid compared to the rest in the table. I felt that if I were to go slightly higher speed, it'll probably buang lol. Rest feel a lot more solid, especially the Xforce since they have that Active Yaw Control which really plays it part.

Secondly, the S70 slow down and brake at the traffic light feels, for lack of better words, jerky. Maybe it's a characteristic of the DCT or Turbo engine (I'm from CVT so don't really know much about those cars) but needs a lot of getting used to.

U did try the DCT on S70 or hearsays? The DCT on geely are tuned down (not fast as DSG on VW) for reliability (they said) hence it dont really felt like a DCT but more feel like normal conventional auto gb with gear.

May I know is it normal practice for car dealer to request for full paymnet (Total OTR incl. insurance minus loan amount) for them to proceed with registration of new car?

More than a dacade ago I remember I only paid the balance on the day of delivery but not sure after so long is there any change

TIA for your feedback

So far, I have not experience making a full payment prior to collecting the car!

I dare not take such a deal.
