For used unit, based on my list.
Toyota Vios 2016, J spec Auto (mileage 48k km)

For new unit, I might consider Proton Persona or Perodua Myvi. If you have any other models to suggest, feel free to let me know.

Budget: around RM50k
Usage: Work, fetch family for doctor appointment or buy groceries, maybe short vacation travel
Note: I prefer sedan over hatchback, since i can store more things and also car will be more stable?
*
Used car need experience to allocate additional repair budget. Bring trusted mechanic to check before buying. Who knows car may have accident or caught in flood?

New car theoretically would be less risky.

Sedan but prioritise stability ( or handling) then
Persona > Vios > Bezza

10yrs already using this car. Kelisa 2003.

Test drove. REALLY LIKE IT
falls within my budget <2k per month.
How's the maintenance like?
*
5 yr maintenance already covered and u have 10 years of hands on car ownership experience to spot any others problems that may arise.

Since u really like it, ( & can afford), why not?
Perhaps just pretend otherwise when negotiating for hugh discounts from sales person wink.gif

How about new Proton compare to older Proton?
Heard from friends that Proton reputation was  doh.gif
I cant comment much as never drive Proton before.
What do you think?
*
If you watch all the reviews, latest Protons are supposedly much improved
However, the golden rule in buying cars -
TEST DRIVE. Preferbly a few times. Try the Bezza too.

If you cannot differentiate say between Persona & Bezza after testing their handling, then the Bezza has a few advantages eg lower fuel consumption.

OK, because I have experience before dealer that don't want cash buyer, they say low margin, $$ is made thru loan/hp fee and commission from banks....so after full payment they hold on to the $$ and try to delay delivery....

So if you know any good P2 for cash buyer dealer please recommend
*
Perodua Sentral, sect 19 Petaling Jaya got plenty of sales staff do cash buyers. I bought my cars cash from a nice old lady Grace Seow

Eg. If second hand CRV, how about new X50?

I think the most important thing about buying a car is to look at your budget and family needs. For example, how many children are in the family, whether they travel frequently during holidays, etc. If there are many children and travel frequently, then you must choose to buy a more spacious car. I am a family of three and have bought a honda city for several years, and now I think it is still very useful. In addition, I recommend a website called Autofun that looks at car information. The content is very rich.
*
Why promote Indon Wap_car website here? The car information although rich in content are mostly non applicable for our buying decisions

1. Models:
2. Budget: <=60k
3. New/Used/Unreg: New or Used
4. Specs: -
5. Transmission: -
6. NA or FI: -
7. Type: MPV or van
8. Remarks: Due to growing business needs, forsee a need to transport up to 200kg goods (enclosed so no trucks) on weekly trips.

Realistically, only Alza and Exora is within my budget for new vehicles. However they are very old models with coming replacements or enhancements heard. On the other hand, new models might push the price upwards ..

Noted Daihatsu Grandmax beyond budget and no PSV licence (do i need one?)

Thanks for any feedback innocent.gif

QUOTE(zenix @ Dec 1 2020, 05:33 PM)

before we talk about vehicles let's talk about your usage.
1. will this vehicle be business only or will have to also function as a family car?
2. if family car is it as main family car or second car?
3. as family car how many people it needs to carry?
4. small kids? stroller needed? fetching any oldies?

5. for your business what do you carry?
6. if the vehicle is only for business will u consider also using it to part-time as logistics for Lazada/Shopee to deliver parcels?
7. do u intend to maximize the above by getting a PSV?

u can also deliver with passenger vehicle but gotta becareful especially when police checking.
1. Business and holiday car
2. Each family member has own car. This for group holidays
3. Not important, have multiple cars
4. No
5. Dried food in bags and boxes
6. No
7. Not really, can claim goods for own consumption? Still undecided on PSV, needed if using passenger vehicle?

Thanks

5. If not many boxes then Nissan Serena is a good choice, it has comfortable seating for passenger carrying but can easily move the chairs away to have a "hole" in the center to carry cargo.
7. License is one thing, another thing is loading capacity. Unless it is a commercial vehicle whatever you carry cannot be higher than the window line.
Will investigate Serena, Thanks Zenix !

Is buying a Toyota Corolla 1999 SEG for 10k still a viable option in 2020?
Or is a new Bezza 1.3X a better buy?
10k vs 43k.
On one hand the Corolla is old, and will probably fail more often, but on the other, it's faster and looks better imo.  blush.gif

First car..Second car?
Daily use ..weekend only ?
Type of Passengers if any ?

Persona 1.6 std > bezza 1.3 x for a few K more next year once the CVT is replaced

Daily car. Previous car (Myvi) will soon be passed to siblings because they taking driving tests soon, so considering another car now.
My commute consists of driving to work (<5km to and from), occasional long distance from KL to Ipoh.
Passenger wise, not exceeding 2 at most times.
*
If daily car then function > form. Practically over beauty wink.gif
A new car will have less breakdown than a 20yr old car.
If work commute is < 5KM then fc > handling as long as you drive safely during outstation trips.

Agree with your Bezza 1.3x choice for sedan ard 43K

Hello all,

Plan to get a second hand Toyota for frequent outstation use (KL>JB)

The question I suppose is are there reliable 2nd hand dealers outside that doesn't simple charge and keluar many patterns?

I also saw car manufacturers have pre-owned divisions nowadays, would they be a better source as compared to outside 2nd hand dealers?
*
No.

Yes. Eg Topmark. Unless u are knowledgable (or can get someone who is) in checking the targeted cars
