Not going to drip, I had another machine on the standby.

Reminder always wear safety glove when it comes to project like this. It took a small chuck of my meat from me when i try to open some of the brass connection material. They basically put loctite everywhere and it makes it hard to open those brass connection pipe. Open those connection brass material is going to take time and you are going to need a lot of energy to loosen them. a good set of wrenches and a mallet is greatly needed in this project and never buy those small adjustable wrenches just because you want to save cost, they never really works well and time consuming just to adjust up and down to fit the size nut.

It may sound and look easy to be done on the video that i saw in the youtube but actually it is no easy to remove those connection pipe even for a medium strength loctite and if your not careful you might spend more then your mod as those copper pipe easily twisted and bend.

Yup, my Silvia is up for auction but seem ppl are slowing down in buying thing nowadays due to bad economy but nevertheless, i keep my Silvia in good shape and constantly upgrade them. Recently it had been upgrade with IMS shower screen and going to get a new professional Cafelat rubber gasket change and flat shower screen screw too (already brought m5x12 screw but it seem doesn't fit....well back to the drawing board). biggrin.gif

luvox & the coffee roasting crowd,

I think I can get my hands on some green coffee beans, so now it's time to look at the roaster. I've decided to eat humble pie & start small .... the popcorn popper first. While your offer to pass your old machine is very tempting, I think I had better pay my way & buy one myself. However, looking at the coffee roasting forums, some people note that certain machines may not be suitable due to:

- having a screen base
- having a thermostat that prevents the heat from reaching the correct temperature, especially after first crack

Any pointers to specific models available here & where to get them?

I have found this simple model on Lelong.com.my which looks like it's got the correct container; dunno about the thermostat though... of course, for such a price I guess I can open it up & mod it with a potentiometer to replace the thermostat.

Much thanks in advance!

You're on the right track. This model has the vents at the bottom which is crucial. The rest like the thermostat you can mod yourself

I got mine from Lelong too but for about rm60. Cap or something blew up the first time I flip the switch. Apparently the motor is DC and they did some kind of diode bridge to convert the AC incoming voltage so I ended up rewiring the motor to an old laptop adapter and put a DC potentiometer across. Works pretty well
Watch out that the plastic top cover will deform and melt over time. Also watch out for flying chaff and smoke haha

Word of advice of the day, Never hammer the gentle Oscar when dissamble for one should only caress the machine to open up for you, Overall summary Hammer = you might break alot of things... Lesson learn....

Nice stuff from Bellman there. Initially i though of getting those bellman Bellman CX-25P before thinking of purchasing Oscar but i change my mind after that.

Yup,I will be using the same hole as the existing steam knob place. Normally after assembly the brass part will be protruding out with the level like the picture below.

user posted image

So i need to do some copper bending to see if i can get only the level protruding out then i will DIY a cover to close the side hole with some plastic cover or rubber cover which is my plan.

P/s: Speaking too soon, just notice my retaining valve C10 had degraded and brittle at the steam pipe due the beat taking from beat after years of usage. Going to order a new retaining valve c10 to replace it. Seem like Oscar internal parts are not really reliable because of all plastic inside that will fail over time of usage. Just wondering why Nuova Simonelli engineers didn't think of using brass or metal part especially parts that took alot of powerful beating like the steaml..... doh.gif

I did survey & see taobao review b4 decide to buy. Consistant price all taobao seller. This is manual model. Cheaper than timer model. UK is selling around rm2k b4 GST, so i believe should be genuine. Taobao competative, always found item price near supplier price, low profit margin.

Weight 15.7kg. I use sea freight, took 3 weeks to arrive. 0.1 meter cubic, rm 50 shipping fees. No GST or custom tax item from taobao.

Air freight, import thing from europe or us got tax. I bought from taobao, sea freight no tax. My sea freight only rm50
http://tmqd.me/h.DTs8s?cv=AAFTArgd&sm=665efe

There is numbers of other mazzer seller around RMB 2999 for manual model. Electronic doser model also available at rmb 4800. The time i bought currency RM 1 = RMB 1.65.

U need to be able read chinese & better to hv previous experience bought thing from taobao, or have good fren to consult, coz there is still certain risk. I always use sea freight to ship big items, but take 3 weeks to arrive. Air freight can be very very expensive coz it is based on weight & volume rules. U need logistic agent to ship thing. The direct shipping from taobao official air freight will cost alot & process can be complicated if dont understand the proper method. Need to consider 3% charges if use credit card. I use hongleong wise card, 10% cash rebate, so i dint count that charges into my rm 1880. Only wise card consider taobao as groceries, all the other cards dont consider taobao groceries group.

According to the website b4 their uk tax is 345.83 pound, around rm2k. Thats the reason makes me to decide to go for taobao, coz the price is realistic for a genuine mazzer. Sellers from taobao also consistently claim it is wholesale price coz they bought in big quantity.

drool.gif HG1 is a Dream!! but damn the price is shocking.gif i've always loved conical burrs over flat burrs reason being is coffee retention issue (Unless ur a commercial user) I'm home user so coffee retention is best kept to minimum!! Looking forward to the new baratza sette too!! and HG1 will still remain as a dream! biggrin.gif

@Luvox Damn that packaging for the mazzer looks beat up!! but u got a good grinder that works for years!! thumbup.gif
