Hi, I m still beginner to the coffee,
can i ask and see how long does the ground coffee beans can last in order to maintain the freshness ?
and will the coffee quality get affected by the china made coffee grinder machine comparatively to  those branded brand one?
*
Fresh beans best use it up in 2 weeks else it will not become stale!! no matter what storage u use!! best buy in small quantity (250~300g)!

No comment on china made grinder! wink.gif as I'm just using the ROK grinder also china made (But with QC i suppose)! cheap and good! smile.gif

It is hard to really get custom item in Malaysia.... more or so on coffee machine parts (Exclude those tool kits like milk pitcher & tamper) unless u know some vendor that provide them or sell only specifically gaggia item (Mostly they will tell you they will import in also and price wont be that nice since they only import specifically to your order and not by batch). I try to ask a few shops and they seem to only entertain those big commercial coffee machine rather then homemade machine as they saw no profit in doing business so I turn my order to online in direct imported in the parts but there is a hassle/ catch as the item might get delay or block by our custom like what happen to me now....

I'm making some mod on my machine and order couple of part in from Canada and my item got stop by the custom. They required further more detail info on the item before they decided to release them.... that is still yet uncertain if they want to release the item or further charge for it as im waiting for the news....
Why pre ground your coffee .... that is kind of just taboo method for coffee drinkers. Your coffee will get stale very quick within 1 week (If you kept in in the air tight container) and your coffee will end like all other local coffee shop 'kopi O' while fresh roasted coffee bean will sustain 2-3 week after it been roasted out before stale.
*
Thats why singapore is your best neighbour in importing things!! i still can't understand why malaysia customs always make a big fuss instead of following the books! if it needs to be tax just tax it and pay! Sometimes small matter they make u go all the way to KLIA to declare and explain and pay tax! ofcoz unless u import illegal stuff which is understandable!! and import duties are not for the faint hearted!

and yes please don't use pre ground coffee!! If u use better go coffee shop drink Kopi-o RM2.20 is cheaper than invest in a machine which u seldom use and wont produce quality coffee different from ur regular coffeeshop.

Tried Singapore before, and they don sell the part there also that why i end up import the part far from what i expected. last time i try to import my PID from US and it seem there is no problem getting through....
*
Hmmm i wonder what you ordered!! brows.gif brows.gif

@castreal well it depends on what type of coffee you like to drink like many people here suggest Good fresh beans + Good hand grinder (Hario or rinoware) + your selection of brew (V60, Aeropress, mokapot or machine) can match specialty caffe quality. But ofcoz if u like espresso type then you need to invest in a good machine (No need 5 figures la unless u open a cafe but in malaysia volume output also not big) there are so many choices. but i would not go for "No brand" "china made" simply because of safety (Boilers are pressurised and heating elements sucks high Power, and you are dealing with hot water i don't want to get 2nd degree burn because of failures and explosion) of coz everything is made in china but made in china with QC in other countries make a huge difference!!

Dont worry about the milk it wont separate so fast after you had froth (Unless you frothing technic is not good enough). All you need to do is to swirl the milk in the pitcher. I seen many videos do that (Froth, clean and purge wand and continue to swirl the pitcher) and they still have cooperated micro foam pour from their pitcher. A little bit dirty is ok, you can come back to clean it later unless you dont do maintenance on your machine all the time (e.g dissamble to group head, steam wand and do cleaning, blackflush, descale). I think having semi auto machine, it is common practice already.
Yup, but better version of that .... i think a way to cover the previous hole with some rubber cap or something soft

*
Woah now that is an eye opener on the mods of NS oscar especially the one on youtube!! Good luck and have fun mod-ing the process! it will be fun!!

Btw just curious how do you descale ur Oscar when it has no hot water wand? sorry i don't own one and reason is because of that!!

Verdict: Taste the coffee still same not much had change but i'm getting even flow of the coffee coming out of the portafilter through the spout consistent with level of the coffee puck check before brewing (original sometimes you get one side first then follow another side). The shower screen now are easily to clean and when i remove the shower screen to check. There is literally little or no coffee residue stuck on the brass plate above the shower screen.

Overall the impact is minimal but not a necessary a MUST have mod to have for the oscar unless your shower screen is leaking or broken.
*
Hmmmm interesting verdict!! Did you use IMS basket too?? apparently the shower screen should be accompanied with their basket to have full effect on the taste. well some barista champions says! not sure if its marketing strategy or not!! brows.gif brows.gif

use bottomless PF then you will know!! thumbup.gif

Anyone visit Easy Brew in penang? What u guys think about their fresh roasted bean?

Beans roasted on the spot. The beans roasted for me is packed in small packages, 21 gram each. Surprised me.
I bought 100gm X 5 each origin to try. Received multiple small packages. Dont need to worry about keeping the beans stored fresh.
*
As my knowledge roasted beans need to rest a minimum of 24H for de-gasing before packing. Means they can't pack it on the spot after roasting. those small package is a good idea but what if you only need 15-18g of coffee? i guess that extra is for retention clearing! brows.gif brows.gif i still think 250g bag is a good size to buy a few and keep!

Not going to drip, I had another machine on the standby.

Reminder always wear safety glove when it comes to project like this. It took a small chuck of my meat from me when i try to open some of the brass connection material. They basically put loctite everywhere and it makes it hard to open those brass connection pipe. Open those connection brass material is going to take time and you are going to need a lot of energy to loosen them. a good set of wrenches and a mallet is greatly needed in this project and never buy those small adjustable wrenches just because you want to save cost, they never really works well and time consuming just to adjust up and down to fit the size nut.
*
Oh yes they most italian manufacturers do use loctite for their brass connections!! but may be medium strength white loctite 592 series tho!! so should not be that much of a struggle! and you are right!! man cave can't have cheap tools man!! Quality tools make a huge difference!! Have fun on your mods and yes i think u have a backup ms silvia? not sold yet?

Getting wet dream on level mod at Nuova Simonelli Oscar already ?  brows.gif
Word of advice of the day, Never hammer the gentle Oscar when dissamble for one should only caress the machine to open up for you,  Overall summary Hammer = you might break alot of things... Lesson learn....
*
rclxms.gif Its getting there!! are u using the existing steam knob place? Wonder how will you cover up the hole? (Just for aesthetic pleasure) haha!!

I am not suggesting you got a fake.
I am just more willing to go uk route for a peace of mind.
Then again broke me is still looking a hg one lol

I have ppl in PRC but these ppl will tell me go uk route. They can find cheap roomba locally but still get me to buy and ship them to have peace of mind.
*
drool.gif HG1 is a Dream!! but damn the price is shocking.gif i've always loved conical burrs over flat burrs reason being is coffee retention issue (Unless ur a commercial user) I'm home user so coffee retention is best kept to minimum!! Looking forward to the new baratza sette too!! and HG1 will still remain as a dream! biggrin.gif

@Luvox Damn that packaging for the mazzer looks beat up!! but u got a good grinder that works for years!! thumbup.gif

nice stuff you got there.... I still waiting for baratza sette to release  wink.gif .... one thing i notice though....anything that go through foreign normal pos then uses pos malaysia will not be charge with GST or custom tax (Well mostly as per my imported experiment done so far with item brought from italian company elektros vs us company espressoparts ) Those forwarder that uses FedEX, DHL and those big name company will kena GST and custom tax.... but that is all to change because i saw the banner that pos malaysia will also imposes tax soon (around this year).... so if you want to get anything better be fast....
*
Yes i have to agree!! from my experience in courier, in malaysia its suppose to be tax free for items below RM500 (Product + Shipping fees) Quite impossible TBH!! but small items can be done (Eg: Tampers, mats, knock box, Etc). so my experience is ordering tamper from BellaBarista in UK my total order including shipping is Less then RM500 but when arrive here kena tax!! bangwall.gif What the Fedex here does is they inflate my shipping fees to RM 360 when i only paid RM150 so i kena 6% Import GST! LOL and with pos malaysia it depends on luck! (Sometimes i kena sometimes i don't) rclxub.gif

So glad... Got a Breville Duo Temp Pro Coffee Machine for RM1100 from Harvey Norman clearance sales ^^ plus RM230 for additional 4 years warranty.

Cant wait to brew some coffee!

Now I'm missing grinders... Any recommendation?
Is this grinder good?
http://www.senheng.com.my/coffee-machine/1...lkcg4012ss.html

Actually plan to get BES870 version but too bad, BES870 is non-promo item...
*
Err i would not recommend blade grinders!! u got a good bargain on the machine its good to get a good grinder! be it hand grinder if you are on budget or electronic!! Just make sure its burr grinder as oppose to blade!

woo... ain't cheap these stuff... for entry level, any grinder?
Or I shud go straight for Super Jolly or Baratza instead? Feeling it's bit overkill at the moment if going straight for such grinder.
*
A good grinder will not be overkill at all coz it last (some say 10 years?) !! but I'm more of a fan of conical burrs!! u can use you hand grinder to test out the shots and see if you like them before rushing to an electronic grinder!! I'm waiting for the baratza sette to arrive because it looks promising and i can retire my hand grinder for pour overs! MyEspresso said they will bring it in and should be expecting in sept!! not sure of pricing tho!!

@d33 Walio those boilers is beat up!! lol but no worries its all copper (anti bac properties) brows.gif oh ya coppers are very soft in nature do not over tighten or use excessive force to open!! Great restoration project indeed!! thumbup.gif

interesting comments on BGP! but given the price at RM1500++, id rather go for a mignon MK2 which is selling approx for RM1900 in malaysia by coffee ritual if i remember right! which is much better build and lasting!! 50mm burrs! That is if you just want espresso grinds all the time and use your hand grinder for V60/pourovers!

But as i said i like conical burrs so I'm gonna wait for the barratza sette! brows.gif

@d33 Yes when i was doing some research on boilers that copper is naturally anti bac and those deposit you see on the outside is protecting the coppers! but IDK and lime scale build up on copper is faster than on Stainless Steal! so better to descale it yearly!

Here have a good read! http://www.finecoffeecompany.com/copper-bo...resso-machines/

Look promising but don get fool by just the few developer talk.... i suspecting it might be good only for drip and press but not espresso... hmm.gif
*
I agree!! another marketing sales that says, that its the best and all!! tongue.gif

@mouse I'm interested in your MK2 as well!! PM with some pictures?! or if any of you coffee addicts wanna dispose any grinders (dedicated for Espresso)? I'm looking for 1 preferred doserless on demand stepless burr grinders To be specific!! haha

Well I am trying to pull the graph on coffee freshness vs time. Even you don't use it to grind, can use to monitor beans freshness!

And this is coffee thread, press or drip don't give coffee lover the coffee joy?
*
Why so serious? its all about coffee and it says can go up to espresso grind! so we just debate only!! and heck i still love the ordinary Kopi-o in kopitiam!! but still hates starbucks!! Its a price and quality thing!! if you can relate to it!! tongue.gif

@d33 WOW i saw your ms silvia is sold!! so no espresso for you already? or u've done mod-ing your oscar?

Yeah, i know it is a sloppy job .... the hole look like sh@t and uneven .... you know how hard is it to cut through this high quality stainless steel plates....
