It's a constant dilemma for home brewers cos it's very costly for home brewers to run experiments buying coffee by small bags.

I have a bunch of clearance beans that I don't mind letting got at RM50/kg right now due to MCO. They are actually decent Arabica bean blend just that it's past it's 2wks after roasting date and I wouldn't want to sell anymore. If you don't mind lowered taste quality, drop me a PM and we'll take it from there

Morning guys. I remember quite some time back, someone shared a website selling coffee greens but can't seem to find that post. Anyone has idea where to get coffee greens online?

Well, specialty coffee is somewhat also a craft. We're here to present our craft and derive satisfaction from the enjoyment that others received when drinking our coffee

Famous local ROASTED coffee here is similiar to Singapore style which is the Hainanese style - dark roasted Robusta or Liberica varietal coffee which is then stirred into margarine/sugar to form shinny clumps of black gold. This is then ground and sold to our commonly found Kopitiams to be made into our classic Kopi'O drinks. So if you're looking to taste our local culture coffee - many famous brands across Malaysia but of course the "White Coffee" brand stands out, majority believe to originate from Ipoh region.

As for locally GROWN coffee, example is Muar, Johor which grows Liberica varietal beans (which locally are also referred to as Elephant beans). Also there is My Liberica company which does the full journey from growing to roasting to serving Johor Liberica varietals but without sugar/margarine additions during roasting and prepping it more similarly to current modern espresso/drip styles.
There is also an upcoming company - Sabarica located in Sabah that has brought together local coffee farmers scattered across the Mt Kinabalu region. They grow exclusively Arabica varietal and is actively still exploring new processing and bringing new varietals into Sabah.

I currently have the Sabarica grown coffee in our roastery ( both washed and honey process ). So if this is something that you would want to try, let me know!

As for your espresso machine question - sorry to say 1k won't get you anywhere worth for espresso making. More pain than gain. Just go with drip to expand your sensory until you're ready to splurge around 4k-5k for a decent proper setup

Unfortunately, I don't need it right now. I'm in the process of upgrading my grinder but the MCO makes it really hard to get things for it. I'll check back with you when I'm done with my grinder smile.gif

Also, I never knew 2 weeks is already considered bad. Now I'm ashamed with my month old coffee hahahaha.

Update on Niche Zero grinder. Well, it's worth the money spend.

The only issue I have is some grind will stick to the spout and drop on the wooden tray after 10-15 mins. I have to remind myself always put the dosing cup back after pouring into the portafilter. Also flick the spout with finger before grinding the next batch to purge any old grind. The total that fall out is less than 0.1g.

Now, what I like most is for single dosing. Very simple workflow and very consistent beans in and grind out in term of weight. No more than +- 0.2g.

Built quality and finishing is really good. No rough edges. Some people like huge grinder with heavy metal all around that's build like a tank. I prefer sleek sports car. My wife complimented the grinder does looks good in the kitchen.

Sound level is low for a grinder. Definitely much quieter than flat burr which spin at high speed.

It's easier to clean. In fact, nothing much to clean compare to Macap M4 flat burr.

And the big question about taste in the cup. It's definitely a step up from 58mm flat burr. I'm not an Espresso drinker so I wouldn't put those fancy words. For my latte, I feel it's definitely sweeter and more satisfying. One of the greatest improvement is consistency. The last few days the quality of the cup been almost the same. Previously I do get average to very good latte with occasional excellent taste according to my own standard.

Overall no regrets on getting it and hopefully it will last for more than 10 years. The design is quite simple so parts should be easy to swap out. I prefer simple grinder without electronics to worry about.

My water filter does not have room temp, so i'll mix both cold/hot and wait until reach room temp then.

As for the container, do you put it in fridge or leave it at the kitchen counter?

Put it at kitchen counter. Room temp faster for extraction. After done, you can stored your black potion in the fridge.

Nice to know about the Niche Zero. Yeah, you can't avoid static, even with my grinder and RDT, minor static still occurs.

Yeah. I used to RDT with Macap M4 due to static and clumping but no longer doing that for Niche Zero. It's very minor and the grind doesn't clump together like Macap M4. Just do a quick WDT in the grind cup and pour. Got my blind tumbler yesterday and just try it out today. I'm not used to it and accidentally press the bottom causing the grind to spillover the counter. Second time it's better and I start get the hang of it.

Interesting, if the retention is minimal, can possibly workout a seamless workflow. For me, I've removed the spring from the PF and moved to dosing 14g into the ridgeless VST basket, level, and extract. Omitted the tamping as well.

The blind tumbler that came with my grinder is collecting dust lol.

Haha don't be. I mean after 2 weeks, it's definitely still drinkable but definitely not optimum for customers as they will need to finish them fast so as a biz, we can't be charging full pricing on those anymore to be fair

You are right. The blind tumbler is pretty useless. Back to use Niche supply dosing cup. Much easier to clean up and no clumping.

guys, I am using the delonghi dedica espresso machine and aeropress to brew my coffee.

i am looking for a coffee grinder that is more for espresso machine because I am using the kg89 for both brewing tools.

I am thinking either to go for breville smart grinder pro (RM1.3k) or delonghi kg521 (RM 800)

Is there a difference between these two?

or anyone can recommend me other coffee grinders?
