QUOTE(patryn33 @ Mar 31 2016, 09:24 PM) I wanted to try omitting tamping with this.. there are still channeling.. the depth is kinda tricky here to master. Might also be because I'm using 14g with the 15g VST basket. If tamped, the extraction is vastly improved.QUOTE(luvox @ Mar 31 2016, 10:45 PM) I got it from:https://shop.caffecrema.my/collections/coff...fee-distributor Total RM590 including shipping. Tried asking from ONA directly but was referred back to local distributor lol |

QUOTE(Castreal @ Apr 1 2016, 12:49 PM) I think during the World Barista Championship 2015 Finals, Sasa used a similar tool to distribute the coffee, but he used a tamper to tamp as well. Yeah, it was a prototype. Tamping after using the OCD is recommended but the puck is still subjected to variable tamp pressure if tamping is inconsistent. I think in order to extract without tamping, the grinds must be just right.. the depth of levelling used with OCD and the screen used in the gasket must be even and precise. Still experimenting..QUOTE(JCogent @ Apr 1 2016, 01:17 PM) Auresso is also selling it, for slightly less. http://www.auresso.com.my/product/106/ONA-...ee-Distributor/ Yeah, saw this after purchase.. difference by about RM20 - RM30 |

QUOTE(ycs @ Apr 15 2016, 12:25 PM) I'm using an E61 group machine. On a side note, commissioned some work to Dave from HB forum to customize some wood for my machine. After 11 months of wait, it's finally done. From the pic, it's worth the wait I must say His page is here: http://www.home-barista.com/marketplace/cu...ine-t10642.html Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Oct 3 2016, 02:00 AM) I know it's for distribution but you state dosing, which is why I recommend weighing machine. I've been using the OCD for quite some time now, and it's part of my routine. Yes, there will be some wastage, but because my dosage is 14.1, it's really minimal. There are no channeling issues, and with darker roasts, I can load in 12g in a VST 15g basket and still have proper extraction.A lot of mix reviews online https://www.thecoffeecompass.com/ona-coffee...ributor-review/ The minor wastage, I normally knock the OCD on the knock box to clear. So the counter-top is normally clean. |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Oct 7 2016, 01:50 AM) Can't afford the original, wonder how close is the design of a knockoff. Not sure of the ridges on the OEMs but from the pictures they differ from OCD. The ones on the OCD basically distributes and cuts off the excess grinds according to the level you set it to (something like stockfleth's method) while the ridges on the OEM seems to only distribute.Good to find a positive note. Compare with old fashion tamping u see the value? It's an improvement for classic tamping. |

There are a lot of choices out there, you can also try getting some beans from ymeng85. As for milk, I normally use Farmhouse or Meiji but you can try other choices as well. Pairing really depends on the type of beans you use.

QUOTE(pierreye @ Apr 11 2020, 10:41 AM) Update on Niche Zero grinder. Well, it's worth the money spend. Nice to know about the Niche Zero. Yeah, you can't avoid static, even with my grinder and RDT, minor static still occurs. The only issue I have is some grind will stick to the spout and drop on the wooden tray after 10-15 mins. I have to remind myself always put the dosing cup back after pouring into the portafilter. Also flick the spout with finger before grinding the next batch to purge any old grind. The total that fall out is less than 0.1g. Now, what I like most is for single dosing. Very simple workflow and very consistent beans in and grind out in term of weight. No more than +- 0.2g. Built quality and finishing is really good. No rough edges. Some people like huge grinder with heavy metal all around that's build like a tank. I prefer sleek sports car. My wife complimented the grinder does looks good in the kitchen. Sound level is low for a grinder. Definitely much quieter than flat burr which spin at high speed. It's easier to clean. In fact, nothing much to clean compare to Macap M4 flat burr. And the big question about taste in the cup. It's definitely a step up from 58mm flat burr. I'm not an Espresso drinker so I wouldn't put those fancy words. For my latte, I feel it's definitely sweeter and more satisfying. One of the greatest improvement is consistency. The last few days the quality of the cup been almost the same. Previously I do get average to very good latte with occasional excellent taste according to my own standard. Overall no regrets on getting it and hopefully it will last for more than 10 years. The design is quite simple so parts should be easy to swap out. I prefer simple grinder without electronics to worry about. |

Interesting, if the retention is minimal, can possibly workout a seamless workflow. For me, I've removed the spring from the PF and moved to dosing 14g into the ridgeless VST basket, level, and extract. Omitted the tamping as well.
The blind tumbler that came with my grinder is collecting dust lol. |
