Proud owner of a BES870 checking in as well!

I'm currently using beans from Lighthouse Roasters, Penang. Quite enjoying it, but to be fair this is only my second bag of beans. Am exploring options.

Penang lighthouse still have ? I thought they close shop long time ago.... hmm.gif .... you can always tried coffee lane, that where i usually get me coffee bean from or you can try order online from this fellow Beanstalk whose in penang also as he can do door to door delivery (Service also not bad)...

QUOTE(wshazi @ Aug 29 2016, 06:55 PM)
I use mainly the espresso blends from highlander coffee called quattro. Purchased it from  KF Chan of Myespresso cafe in USJ. For RM33/- 250 gram, quite a bargain. Sometime got free a cup of coffee upon purchase.  rclxms.gif

Now I seldom do handbrew so I seldom buy the single origin. Where do you purchase your bean?
*
that is quiet cheap, most in penang already selling it like rm35 to rm 37 for only 200 gram.

They close their cafe I think, but the roastery is still going. I'm actually based in PJ, just that I bought Lighthouse's at the coffee festival at Publika. Thanks for the tip though. Will try when I'm in Penang. smile.gif

Good luck on your biz .... thumbsup.gif
Another credit to you, try your bean last night (Haven't tried since i brought because i develop flu and cough only got better recently) and it choke my machine badly, and you beans had force me to step down the grind setting. That is the sign your coffee is really fresh out of the oven..... Previously i tried beans from other location cafe with same grind setting (finest setting in my machine). It didn't choke at all mean that beans are not that fresh already....

Yup, if you set the the finest grind setting in your grinder.

i didn't change my last setting on my grinder (i set to finest grind setting on the machine) that i used for the previous beans that already been 2 week from roasting also you can tell that extraction that came out from the brewing. Generally, those bean that close to losing all the freshness tends to have the shot starts flowing at 5 seconds at a good rate but then suddenly you get flowing become way too fast and comes out watery.

if you bean tends to be fresh like a fews days, normally the puck will be dry and hard. That how my machine got choke .if you beans generally about 2 weeks or more then you get muddy puck type but i never get puck stuck at the brew head before even i had tried with 2 machine, your the first case i heard before.

It is all based on my observation and reading in this forum.

What I've encountered after starting roasting at home is that underdeveloped roasts come out way too fast & there is nothing that can compensate. I've ground to the finest setting which can easily stall my machine and I still got less than 15 sec. This is from beans roasted less than a week previously.

The latest batch of Yirgacheffe I roasted a bit dark for my taste (I estimate around Full City+) and I stalled at my usual grinder setting. Had to re-dial in this morning, and still got 35 sec.

Strongly recommend all coffee enthusiasts to try out home roasting. Very fun, super fresh and introduces a whole new world of tastes.

Err bro there are too many variables to choke the machine; freshness of beans always goes back a few clicks coarser and finer as the days pass to get same yield and time. also another factor maybe the type of beans blend used, unless you just stick to one type of espresso blend then yes freshness is gonna affect its yield. if you switch between espresso blends then yes always need to play with the grinder abit, because humidity also will cause the grinds.

Thats why every bag of beans i usually discard 1-2 cups to dial the beans in then viola its heaven on earth!! smile.gif

Do you brew straight after roasting or you give it a good 8-12 hr of rest?
from what I read beans peak after a few days of roasting, so if one have access to fresh 1-3 days old beans they not missing out on anything.

I've seen that ID on carousell (crosbyalex84) selling espresso machines for IMO super low prices, and he's has zero ratings as a seller. Have you bought something from him before?

Sorry, my machine from http://www.salvatore-espresso.com bought 2-3 yrs ago not looking to upgrade

Buy on carousell like buy in taobao some risk is there. Do your homework.

Compare to local prices high, compare to Italy prices is high. Who knows dude maybe freq traveller to EU or sell fake?

I had friend bought 2-3 nespresso thru such seller for like rm80 each and is happy with product. Fake or not no idea
