just to add, i am maintaining a savings account with HLB, without a debit card. i cancelled the debit card about 1.5 years ago when it stopped being my salary account.

just managing the account via online.

EDIT: i realised in your case you are referring to new account opening. which in my case is not the same as yours

anyway, you can always request for basic savings account which doesn't charge the RM8 but limits your withdrawal frequency to 4 times or something. can refer to HLB website.

Can I know how to cancel the debit card? Just go to any branch and request to cancel?

U mean u don have HL Connect or any HL product b4 u open MACH? My colleague also open at pavilion. For my case, I told them I don need the ATM card coz I'm existing HLB CC holder with HL Connect. But, I also got HL saving with the hello kitty card which they force me to take too. Now I read someone reported that I can cancel it, gonna do it by this week to avoid giving free money to bank every year. That ATM card sitting nicely in my wallet, never use it for past few years after I opened the acc.

True, exactly same like my case. Being force to take, but my case is few years back.

Is not so much about the RM8 IF I'm using it. Just like you, my one also sit nicely in my wallet just for this cute kitty cat, and I have to pay for it each year! Sometimes my account even inactive due to no transaction.... doh.gif

I almost give up HLB since normal FD also lower compare to others. But now Mach FD seems interesting, may give a try.

nope, i wasnt even a customer of hong leong before i opened mach in may last year. you should cancel it as having too many rarely used cards can be inconvenient. try lodging a complaint and get a refund if you can.

Thanks for the update.  thumbup.gif

But UOB as a company should have a more clear cut fees structure. That means local branches can have their own ways to charge fees even within the same state in Malaysia.  doh.gif

As mentioned in my post #1018, the fee structure of UOB cashier's order is listed in their website: Cashier's Order

I think is the second day after I xfer'ed the money. It was shown immediately in the Moneybox. But I think hrs later, it disappeared. Then the next day the CS called me.

So check your money few hrs later. It may disappear ! tongue.gif

Anyway that was like 4 or 5 mths ago. Not sure the same thing will happen. They may have improved their procedure.  biggrin.gif

My IBG got rejected. vmad.gif Wasted paying the transfer fees.

Early this week I mentioned that my RM said no more 4.5% 12 months which I managed to get in December, Well, yesterday she offered to me again when I wanted to withdraw my maturing FD with UOB. But I did not accept the offer and took the funds to HLB.

At HLB, I faced some problems back in December and yesterday. You see, the HLB 4.5% FD Promo interest must be credited into CASA. I have HLB Joint FD with my son and wife and wanted the Interest to be credited into my wife's Savings Account. But the teller said that the interest must be credited into a Savings Account with 3 of our names.

To learn how I overcome the above, please read my "story" at my Facebook Page where I willshare with you tips which you will find very valuable for FD Promos requiring us to credit the interest into CASA:

went to public bank to withdraw my fd that matured, the lady told me bankers cheque costs RM6 rclxub.gif
ended up withdrawing cash

then went to a nearby hongleong bank to place the 6months - 4.5% promo
not surprisingly they told me i must open saving acc with debit card one, else i cant proceed
so i visited another hlb small branch 10km away
they let me open basic savings acc with RM20 laugh.gif no atm/debit card
downside cant apply online banking, which i think is not true also caz some of u here managed to get online acc
but doesn't matter caz my plan is not touch anyth and after 6 months just withdraw fd close bsa and habis cerita whistling.gif

OCBC ...................... 4.3% (15-months)
Public Bank .............. 4.3% (12-months)
Maybank .................. 4.5% (12-months step-up from 4%~6%)

Thanks!

there are few ways for you to find out new/upcoming promos, if any:

1) read the pages in this topic. yes, read all if you want to know all. or do a quick [Search].

2) if no info found, wait for few more days for others to post updates in the forum. ppl voluntering updates here as and when they visited the bank (either for fd upliftment, other banking activities, or purely simply asking).

3) if cannot wait, try searching the bank's website. they could've silently update without us knowing, yet; or their update is slow (usually few days to weeks to get it published on website).

3) if still cannot wait, call or visit the bank yourself. Then you can share the updates here for others' reference.

rinse and repeat. that's how forumers here found out info and share with us.

either they genuinely dont know the wealth of information posted there (i.e. /k/ keyboard warrior, belasah first, research later) or plain lazy.

i'd, on the other hand, research first to reconfirm facts, before advise the forumer tongue.gif

Looking at it, I think Maybank rates are the best among the 3 banks. Too bad OCBC's promotion is for 15-months :-(

Went to BR planned to uplift my FD and move it to UOB 4.4%...
But was surprise the ABM offer the current promo 4.45% for 2year tenure.
Asked to nego, cannot nego.
So end up stay with BR with monthly interest. Good for not needing to visit another bank. nod.gif

Just to share the promo details (refer the cert I attached below)
Bank: Bank Rakyat
FD rate : 4.45% p.a. monthly interest
FD Tenure : 2 years
Promo validity : 1 Jan - 31 Mar 2016
Min Amount : 50k

I asked for the brochure, ABM said not yet received from HQ. Asked for gift, got 2 towels, umbrella habis.
ABM said there was a FD promo for 12mth last month, now promo for 24mth. Surprise no one heard and reported here.
Took me ~40min to settle everything and collected the certs. Consider fast as compare to last time.
