i got a few app update notifications and when i tapped update all, all of them were stuck at 'Waiting' with no progress at all. signed in and out of my Apple ID and still the same thing. but when i tried updating using my cellular (LTE), it worked. so i reset my router (physically; pressed the 'Reset' button on my Asus RT-14UHP and went through the configuration like normal) and connected again. same thing, i still can't update nor download apps. so i took the plunge and restored my phone. and i still can't download apps.

so to sum up my situation; i can't download apps via Unifi WIFI. i have done the following bearing the same outcome:

1. Physically reset router (also turning it off for a minute and turning it back on)
2. Signed out and in again
3. Restored my phone
4. Signed out from iTunes
5. Changed DNS to 8.8.8.8

please help cause now i can't download any apps at all via WIFI and i need Whatsapp ASAP

Update #1: must spam TM's Twitter account @TMConnects. PLEASE SPAM THEM. THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING AS OF 28/10/15

Update #2: here's a breakdown on what has happened so far;

QUOTE
Symptoms

1. slow updates and/or downloads in iOS App Store (all devices)
2. updates would sometimes be stuck at 'Waiting'
3. browsing, YouTube and others are just fine
4. desktop/laptop speed is unaffected
5. Android devices are unaffected

Actions taken by forumers

1. called TM (100)
2. wrote on their Twitter channel @TMConnects

Response from TM

QUOTE
Hi. Fyi, our team still diagnose on the issue. We unable to provide the time frame. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Temporary Solutions

1. change your DNS (8.8.8.8 or any other country)
2. use VPN
3. use mobile data (3G or 4G/LTE)
4. use other ISP (Maxis Fibre, YES 4G, etc)
5. download during these times; 3am-10am and 3pm-6pm. these are the time slots that some forumers and i have determined to have normal speeds, especially the morning window

I'm trying it right now on Unifi. Apps can download, but it's dog slow, for some reason. I suspect it's a mirroring problem of some sort. Maybe a combination of Unifi and App Store both having problems. Wait a few hours and see. My issues seem different from yours though - both wifi and 4G (Celcom) are really slow for me. Maybe different because my iTunes account is a US one. Dunno. Another strange thing is that App Store pages and videos seem to load quite fast. Only the actual app downloads seem extremely slow for me, whatever the connection type.

yeah i tried downloading an old app that i purchased, 2mb+. after 15 minutes it only managed to download a quarter of the app. as for resuming downloads or updates, it will just be stuck at waiting. i don't know about iTunes but i logged out just in case, no changes though. i checked online and there's no problem with Apple's servers, unlike what happened a couple of months ago. if it's a Unifi problem, then why are other people not affected?

Facing the same issue here intermittently since 2 weeks ago thumbup.gif

Using Iphone 5 (IOS 7) on Unifi30 and I literally cannot update any of my apps through wifi because it's super slow. Similarly, the way I can get a quick update done is through 3G/LTE

I suspect the problem is coming from TM's side because I am still getting full speed using speedtest app and having no issues loading 1080p video on my phone or loading high bandwidth web pages

Firstly, checking Apple's System Status webpage is useless. Apple, in their usual arrogant nature, will only update the page AFTER the usual online publications (9to5mac, TheNextWeb, iMore, ArsTechnica, etc) report the issue, or if they scheduled the maintenance themselves. They never willingly admit to unscheduled downtime or problems. Secondly, I don't think it's a Unifi issue specifically, but more of a mirroring issue with a certain list of IPs for our country/region. For me, Celcom 4G also having slow app downloads, so maybe Celcom happens to be in that affected IP range as well (unlike Maxis or Digi, which you say is working fine). I don't know if other Unifi people are affected or not, since only the few of us have posted on this thread.

I think we can rule out DNS issue. I tried Google DNS, OpenDNS and DyDNS. All the same. Still slow. 58.5MB update for Dropbox taking more than 30 minutes. Feels like I'm back on 56k dial-up modem days. Never tried TM default DNS, because I prefer my local news uncensored. tongue.gif

Come to think of it, it has been going on for quite a while. I tried to update an app a while back and it was downloading quite slow. I thought it was a temporary issue so i just ignored it. At least now we know it's a real issue. Now i'm quite worried cause i don't think Unifi would entertain us if we reported this issue to them. Reporting to Apple is just as useless cause they'll Either just ignore us or most probably blame the ISP..

Yeah no issues browsing and watching YouTube for me. Even the App Store page loads fast. Only the download is affected.

Yeah back then when the App Store was down, it took a while for them to update the status. But i don't think there is any problem from their side cause my friends said that they managed to update their apps via WIFI but they did not elaborate as to what network they were using (given the late hour it's understandable that they can't provide me their full attention). Okay so how is the change in IP mirroring triggered? Was it random/consistent or triggerred upon command? And was it done by our ISP or something beyond that? Sorry but my knowledge regarding networking is very limited, so bear with me. Thanks

So if changing the DNS does not solve the issue, what else can we do? Is there a particular setting deep within the router that we can change? We can try to focus on WIFI first as i don't think we can easily make changes to our network provider (in your case, Celcom). Or would there be no difference at all as this mirroring thing is way deep on their side?

I'm no network guru either. The simple layman explanation is - imagine the server where the various apps are kept. Now if there's one single server for the whole world, it's gonna get choked right? Hence the term "mirror", which is just a way of saying companies that serve worldwide have various servers dedicated to different regions, and in many cases, various servers dedicated to specific IP ranges in those regions. For example Youtube - you know how some videos load very fast while some take a long time to buffer, that's because of where the mirrors are and what videos are on them. For example, if the video you want is stored in a local mirror (server), it'll load faster than a video stored on a mirror that's further away. Youtube will pick out the best possible mirror for us, based on factors like distance, traffic, latency, blah-blah. Right now, it's possible that, with regards to the App Store, the servers dedicated to our location or IP ranges just aren't performing optimally, for whatever reason Maybe. All conjencture on my part.

Could also be a Unifi issue, where there's some problem between them and apple's servers. I dunno. Possibly port blocking/tunneling or a firewall setting on their end. I can torrent and surf and do everything else at normal speed. Even watching the App demo videos on the App Store works fine and fast. Only the apps, whether updating existing apps or downloading new apps. Just now I looked for the smallest apps I could find, and even a 1MB file took almost an entire minute. Who knows what's wrong. Malaysia anything also possible... anything bad, I mean.

Coincidentally, iOS 8.4.1 got released a few hours ago and I downloaded it at normal speed - downloaded in less than 2 minutes, even the install and reboot process took longer than the time to download the 8.4.1 update, ffs. It's only the apps and books that are slow (maybe music also, but I didn't try those).

Give up for today. Later I'll sign out and do a hard reset and try signing back in again. If that doesn't work then I'll just wait and see.

How are we even going to report this? It's such a specific problem - everything is working fine, except app downloads/updates from the iOS App Store. I'm sure the telephone support staff won't even know how to respond.

Worse case scenario, they'll read they manual and tell you to reset your BTU, router, blah-blah-blah .... no change.

Best case scenario, they open a report. Then some technician (if he's in a good mood) will run a traceroute to some random Apple server and everything will come back okay and he'll close the report .... also no change.

Anyway, I'm going to sleep. Hopefully will be back before I start work in the evening.

Edit:
Apparently we're not the only ones with issues. See here;
https://downdetector.com/status/itunes/map/ (8:30am local time when I last checked, there's yellow fuzz on top of the Johor and Selangor areas)

I'm afraid that they may not have sufficient knowledge regarding this matter. They'll most probably ask us to reset our router back to stock (which i've already done but to no avail).

Well a change definitely occurred, the problem is from who's side.. And it was not recent and happened maybe a few weeks back.. What's surprising to me is the fact that we're the only ones talking about this issue, and the issue we're sharing is consistent with each other, or pretty much identical meaning that it's not some random individual problem. The rest of the users here either have not realized what has happened or they just have no issues at all. Or they just use Maxis as their sole ISP

Okay so i think it's safe to say that Unifi users (and also Celcom for G-17) are affected. I tried my sister's iPad on the same WIFI, same thing. I went to my friend's house (another housing section 15 minutes away) that's also using Unifi, also same thing. Tonight, i'm going to my other friend's house to try Maxis Fibre.

Do let us know the result

Strange no one has report this issue prior to you creating this thread, I mean it can't be just the 9 of us here facing this problem lol

I'm pretty sure there are other Unifi users out there in a similar situation as well.

I'll try to call TM up tomorrow, if the customer service is on duty or maybe just let them know in the nearest TM Point Centre

that's thing. it's understandable if it's slow for one day or for that one app, we would naturally dismiss it. but for it to go on for 2 weeks plus and no one making noise.. either most of them are on Streamyx/Maxis Fibre/Yes 4G or.. i don't know.. it's just strange.

well at this rate i'm willing to try anything as this problem is really getting under my skin now. i have an app-less phone. so yeah, would be great if you can get any info from them. who knows, they might provide a miracle solution.. TM, Unifi, whoever man thanks. i'll report back tonight when i'm on Maxis Fibre.

Yesterday night both my iPhone 6 and my mum's iPhone 5 were affected. It's a connection issue, I'm sure. What kind of connection issue, nobody knows.

I dunno, I wasn't affected until yesterday (when I checked just after reading your opening post). Before that maybe there were some days that were slower than others, but never this bad. I would have noticed because I disable automatic downloads/updates (after Apple forced that shitty U2 album on me) and check manually every few days. My update list shows the last day I updated before yesterday was 12th Aug, and I in J.B that day on Unifi and remember it being normal speeds. Obviously I don't take note of every single day (I spend half the week in Singapore with a 1GBps connection there), but I don't remember experiencing such terrible App Store or iTunes download speeds on Unifi in the last 2 years.

I'm now back in Singapore (J.B is my mum's house) so cannot follow up any further until next week, but here's what I found so far;

From what I've narrowed down, it affects certain IP ranges, and within those affected, some are worse than others. Earlier today I tried disconnecting and reconnecting (via router settings) the connection to switch the IP range. I noticed that with some IPs like 175.x.x.x (Johor Bahru) and 60.x.x.x (Kota Tinggi) the download speeds were a bit faster. Still not the usual speed, but maybe 1/4 speed or so - can download around 20MB app in around 2 minutes. With some of the K.L, Negeri and Selangor IPs, the speed was horrible - either stuck waiting or the circle filled very, very slowly, not even 1MB in 1 minute. I suspect, based on the map I linked in my previous post, that maybe Penang or Sabah IPs will be even faster, since the yellow highlights on the map only appear over Selangor, Negeri, Malacca and Johor areas. Kinda hard to get those IP ranges for me though - disconnect/connect more than 30 times also couldn't get Penang or Sabah IP. I ran out of time and had to come back to Singapore, so couldn't try any more. Maybe one of you can try it out and post your findings.

* The connection in my mum's house is Unifi10. Not sure if the same IP ranges are available for Unifi30 and above. If you got static IP then you're probably screwed.

Yeah exactly what we're facing. I don't know about Unifi 30 (didn't even know it existed, i thought Unifi 20 was the max) but can roughly estimate that this problem has been going on for about 2-3 weeks up til today. Hopefully more users can step forward and voice this problem. It'll help cement this as a widespread issue that affects a large number of users.

Given the nature of this situation, it's safe to say that all models connected to Unifi or Celcom are affected. So to answer your question; no, this problem does not affect certain and specific iPhone models. Even my sister's iPad is facing the same issue. Are you by any chance using Unifi or Celcom as your Internet Service Provider? So far we've narrowed the culprit to Unifi, Celcom and maybe Apple's Server.

Thanks for checking. I suspected Maxis would be fine. A couple Unifi home users I visited earlier today were affected by this same problem. Celcom I'm still not 100% certain since we have to take coverage and signal-strength issues into account as well. See my last post (#24) for my observations so far. Maybe you can experiment a bit if you have time.

Crap, it's getting worse; https://downdetector.com/status/itunes/map/
In the morning, it was only light patches of yellow. Now it's a big round blob over the Selangor state. >_<

QUOTE(G-17 @ Aug 14 2015, 10:49 PM)

I'm now back in Singapore (J.B is my mum's house) so cannot follow up any further until next week, but here's what I found so far;

*
Can you walk me through on how to change my IP region? Wouldn't mind trying.

First, you must confirm if your Unifi package provides static or dynamic IP. Dynamic IP basically means your IP address changes each time you connect, while a static IP is an IP address reserved exclusively for you. I think most of the residential Unifi connections are dynamic, while static is reserved for business packages, but you have to confirm yourself. I'm not sure how the new 30 and 50 mbps packages work with regards to this.

If you want to try, well, it differs depending on your router type. It's easier on a PC or laptop compared to a phone, since there will be a lot of switching tabs back and forth. Go to your router control/admin page (the router IP you key into your browser). There you should have a section for Status or Network or something similar named, where you have your WAN settings listed - IP address, DNS, Subnet Mask, etc etc. There you should have a button to disconnect and reconnect your connection. Each time you dis/reconnect, your IP will change (if it doesn't change, then you have a static IP address). Open another browser tab for this page - https://www.iplocation.net/find-ip-address - to see the host location. So each time you disconnect and reconnect and the IP address changes, refresh that tab to see where the host location is. Take notes if possible, and try downloading from the App Store after changing IP each time. From my limited testing earlier, All the Selangor IPs are gone. Cannot even start download. One IP range, starting with 60. for somewhere in Johor was the best I found before I had to leave. Note that switching to a state further from your location might induce slightly higher latency, but you won't notice it unless maybe with fast FPS games or something. Download speeds for other websites should be similar, though I suppose you'll need to test yourself. Need patience, and a bit of luck. My advice, if the IP host listed as anywhere in Selangor state (KL, Cheras, Shah Alam, etc) don't bother to go to the App Store. Save some time. Once you see an IP that says Johor or Negeri or Penang, then you do a speed-test to check the speed, then go to phone and try downloading/updating.

Yes, it's possible that Apple's servers are also getting overloaded. I'm suspecting it's a combination of some issue on Apple's side plus some issues with TM. Maxis broadband users seem to be unaffected. Maybe the relay between Apple's servers/mirrors and TM's servers is wonky somewhere?

Was the same for my place as well. Full speeds on everything except App Store downloads and updates. Thing is, if it was an issue with Apple alone, then all ISPs in Malaysia would be affected. This problem only seems to affect Unifi users (and maybe Celcom, still cannot confirm), so that's why I suspect the issue is at a very specific point in the chain - Imagine a big longkang splitting into a few smaller longkangs. Apple is the big longkang, while the Malaysian ISPs (UniFi, Streamyx, Maxis, Digi, etc) are the smaller longkangs. The part where the water from Apple's big longkang goes into Unifi's smaller longkang seems to be sumbat right now. Cannot say whose fault it is yet. None of the Apple related sites or Apple's own status page have posted outage reports yets. Only clue I can find is here; https://downdetector.com/status/itunes (click the map) but those are individual users making the reports, so we can't get a rough estimate of how big the problem is.

I'm having the same issue in updating and downloading apps on both my iPhone and my iPad for a week now. They took more than a day to be completed. I live in cheras and I'm with unifi. I came back to my hometown in perak and managed to update everything in more or less 30 minutes on a streamyx.

Can confirm, started happening since Aug14 morning for me on Unifi30. I'm so glad I found others here having the same problem.

Also, this might be related with the new Unifi 30 and 50 packages. Friend is on VIP20 and downloading fine.

Don't think so. My mom's house is still on the old Unifi VIP10 package. Also affected by this since around the same time as yourself. I think some of your guys need to call 100 and make a report. Need to be very specific and ask the operator to have an exec or technician follow up with you. I don't think this is a simple matter of "reset port" that the operators always do as a last resort after you spend an hour listening to their life-story about checking BTU and router lights and disco lights and whatnot.

You know what's so frustrating? MY update download shows it's at 800mb completed out of 900+mb, then suddenly it dropped showing it's only at 100mb. It keeps randoming showing different numbers, other times it dropped to 18mb, etc.

Same here. Unable to download/update app on iPhone 6+ with home Unifi

When disconnect wifi, use maxis 4G, it's ok.

Yesterday I test in my office (also Unifi-wifi), no issue.

Both office and home in Selangor.

Wondering what's wrong. Tried a few different DNS also no cure.

same here.

tested on iphone, ipad and macbook air app stores. download shows 'waiting' for more than 10 minutes and not even moving.

went on apple website for their online chat support. they couldn't solve.

called tm 100, they were not aware of the issue and just suggested changing the wireless channels (tried that, didn't work).

So clearly more people are actually facing this issue. I would do it myself, but currently i'm away now so can you guys contact TM and Apple regarding this issue? If they provide any solutions, please refer to the first post of this thread where i tried 5 different methods bearing the same results and if any of their solutions is the same with what i've tried, tell them it does not work and emphasize that other Unifi users are affected as well. And refer to G-17's post in page 2 where he tried several IP regions and the iTunesdown website that shows which region is affected while talking to the operator to let them know that this is not an average issue.

I'm reluctant with settling with VPN because it's just a temporary fix. An end user should not be fiddling with VPN as the internet and the App Store is supposed to work from the get go with no changes. Try imagine my mom using her phone and suddenly faced with this issue; i highly doubt she would have the knowledge to configure a VPN. I want a permanent fix not just for myself but for other users (users that have limited IT knowledge)

Right now I'm almost certain it's a Unifi issue. Need to make as many reports as possible. Bombard them with as many reports as possible. If you know a friend with a Unifo connection, make a report from their Unifi phone as well. When you call, please be as specific as possible. Make the operator understand that it only affects downloads and updates from the App Store, iTunes and iBooks. Tell them what IP you're connected to. Tell them Apple has already confirmed that its not a problem on their side. Lastly, tell them to hurry the f*ck up!!

Actually, come to think of it..its not only app store download slow. Apple trailers have been slow for quite some time, used to be very fast just like youtube. Wonder if its the same issue...

Yeah guys as G-17 said; please be as specific as possible. Include as much information as you can. The flow would roughly be like this:

Explanation of the problem:
I am using an iDevice (iPhone, iPad, iPod) and i am unable to download or update apps in the App Store. I can browse the web, use Whatsapp, etc with no problems but when it comes to downloading or updating apps in the App Store, it will either download at an extremely low speed (example a 10mb app barely moved after 3 hours) or it will be stuck at 'Waiting'.

Explanation of troubleshooting used:
1. I have signed out and back in my Apple ID
2. I have reset my device's network settings
3. I have restored/formatted my device
4. I have changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8
5. I have turned my WIFI off for 1/2/5/10 minutes and turned it back on
6. I have reset my router to default
7. I have used Unifi in different locations with the same outcome

Explanation on why Unifi may be the problem:
I tried downloading and updating my apps with DiGi 3G/LTE and Maxis 3G/4G/Fibre and it worked flawlessly. Only Unifi is not allowing me to download or update apps.

We need to get our story same, straight and consistent. Once we all bombard them with the same issue, they should recognize this as a significant issue.

So i just tested a couple of apps today and the speed has indeed improved, but at a really small rate. Still considered very very slow. Not the kind of speed that we paid for using Unifi.

Damn it. Wished i saw this thread much earlier as I spent my whole freaking weekend troubleshooting it!
Unifi certain ports screw up, or their firewall blocking App Store dl speed. That is the only logical explanation.
Changing DNS won't help.
I use this workaround and it worked for me. Initiated the updates in 3G/lte, wait for the circle to go 1%. Then without pausing the download, enable wifi to connect unifi. The download speed will be Normal, and u save mobile data.

Keep reporting as many cases as u can. Unifi need to see our range of IPs or areas affected by this issue.

Okay guys so i tested a few downloads today and this is what I found:

Unifi 20

Speedtest by Ookla [19mb] - less than a minute
VLC Streamer [43mb] - less than a minute
Card Wars [333mb] - 6 minutes
Immortals [993mb] - 18 minutes

Therefore i think it is safe for me to conclude that my App Store download speed has returned to its original speed. Testing started from 1.33pm 17th August. Other victims, please check and report your findings. Hopefully the problem has been fixed for you guys as well. I'm going to restore my phone again and re-download all my apps to set my phone back. Will report when i'm done

Yeah i think the speed is back to normal again. Thanks to the users who reported this issue to TM. Knowing them if you guys hadn't said anything, they wouldn't acknowledge the problem and just leave it as it is. I'll just leave this thread open, just in case other users experience this problem in the future and use this thread as reference. Just refer to the previous pages for troubleshooting steps. Thanks again guys

try to identify if other Maxis Fibre users are experiencing the same problem or not. if there are a few, then you should contact Maxis and describe to them the issue. but before that, you must first identify certain aspects; does it only affect updating only? have you tried downloading an app and see how fast it downloads? what about surfing online or watching YouTube? is it slow as well? and what about the iOS firmware? does it download fast or slow? have you tried resetting your router (off for 10-30 seconds and turn it back on)? have you tried logging out and back in your Apple ID in the App Store settings in 'Settings'?

I just installed my maxis fibre today. Well, most of my friends with maxis fibre are complaining the same thing. None of the troubleshooting methods able to fix the issue so far. Only Apple's appstore giving me the slow connection issue. Oh ya, if you play Counter Strike Global Offensive we are experiencing the slow connectivity on Community servers as well.

If that's the case it's probably similar to the issue Unifi users experienced when this thread was started. You guys need to contact Maxis en masse. If this thread's experience is anything to go by, social media channels seem to be an effective means of communication with the ISP. Does Maxis Fibre have a twitter or faceballs channel?

Maybe it's just the usual internet slowdown? Public holiday today, after all. Everybody off. Aunties streaming drama series, uncles streaming movies, children streaming hentai anime, etc.

Edit:
Actually, mine also seems a bit slow. Tried downloading some 20MB app and it took almost 3 minutes. Not as bad as the old issue thogh.

Wait until tomorrow. If still slow, try disconnecting and reconnecting (via your router interface) to switch your IP range. If that doesn't help, come back to this thread and post.

okay so i downloaded Godfire: Rise of Prometheus just now. here's the result;

size: 1.14gb
start time: 2.22pm
end time: 3.19pm
duration: 57 minutes
internet: Unifi 20

in conclusion, i can still download apps but not at full speed. it would usually take 30 minutes or so. however, i don't think it's the same issue that we faced before where we couldn't even download a 2mb app. if other users are also experiencing speeds as bad as yours, then we can say it's a general issue. try asking your friends or relative who uses Unifi to try download some apps. that way we can pinpoint the location and number of people facing this issue.

Yup, same. Unifi only. Updating a 35MB app took more than 5 minutes. Celcom 4G speeds are normal. Someone contact Unifi Support via their twitter. They need to resolve this before iOS 9 hits tomorrow or users will be waiting till 2046 for their apps to get redownloaded after the OS update.

I don't use Twitter or Facebook either. Can someone here please check their Unifi download speeds on the App Store (or iTunes, iBooks) and proceed to report to TM Twitter channel. It's a very crucial time right now with iOS 9 just around the corner and apps all getting updates to work on the new version. I myself currently have almost 1GB of apps awaiting update and can't do so due to the extremely slow speeds.

I'm experiencing slow App Store app updates too and its not just Unifi as I've tried updating my apps via Maxis 4G and its also slow...just not as slow as Unifi.

Is this problem just limited to us living in Malaysia or is it widespread in other countries too?

Celcom 4G is normal for me. Unifi on the other hand, the circle moves like 1mm per minute. I'm pretty certain it's a Unifi problem, similar to the one reported when this thread was first started. What makes it worse is that it's a public holiday today, so all the TM technicians are probably off.

okay so here's the text:

QUOTE
Dear Valued Customers,

Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to inform that as part of its continuous effort to enhance its customer experience, we have upgraded our Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure for  our broadband services. This activity was applied automatically and does not require any configuration on the customer's side.

However, if you have modified the DNS setting of your modem, Residential Gateway (RG) or any other related device, please set the setting to "auto-assign" to be serviced by the upgraded DNS.

Please be informed that following this exercise, TM will decommission its previous DNS with IP address 202.188.1.5 in stages starting from September 2015 until November 2015. Customers who have manually set their DNS to this DNS may face difficulty in accessing the Internet. Therefore, we would like to advise our customers to set your DNS setting to "auto-assign" to ensure uninterrupted experience.

For further enquiries or assistance, please get in touch with us via e-mail to help@tm.com.my or tweet us @TMConnects.

Thank you.

i'm a bit clueless in this part, so i'll just explain the changes i made to my network via my devices. what i did was i changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 by going to Network & Sharing Center -> [WIFI name] under Connections -> Properties under Activities -> Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties -> Use the following DNS server address -> set to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

that's all i did and i only did it on my desktop, laptop (both running Windows 7) and a Android tablet. i didn't make any changes on the other laptops in my house and my phone as well as my router. so here are my questions;

1. did the changes i made on those devices affect all other devices (my dad's, mom's laptop etc)? (i don't think so cause the other laptops can't access certain sites that can only be accessed if i change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

2. if so, would choosing 'obtain DNS server address automatically' fix the problem?

3. if not, how do i set my DNS to 'auto-assign'?

Basically, doing no.2 = no.3 - meaning that setting your router to obtain DNS automatically from your ISP means to let the TM auto-assign your DNS. Only router settings will affect all devices on the network, which you can always override via settings on your devices if you wish to, which you have done on your desktop and laptop as you said. Just double check your router settings to make sure it is indeed set to retrieve the DNS automatically from ISP.

Fwiw, I'm still using a combination on OpenDNS and Google DNS can now download at default speeds, so I'm not sure if this really is the issue here.

okay so if i proceed with no. 2/3, would i have to do it only on one device for the changes to take effect or must i do it on each device that has the DNS changed earlier? that's the thing; i did not make any router changes in regards to the DNS. the last time i did anything to my router was resetting it, and setting it back up only involves keying the WIFI name and Unifi details. so i doubt that the DNS changes i made on my desktop, laptop and tablet had anything to do with this.

so how do i double check my router settings to make sure that it's set to retrieve the DNS automatically from the ISP? i'm using the Asus RT-N14UHP router btw and i can't seem to find the setting related to the DNS server.

If you did not make any changes it should connect to the ISP's issued DNS automatically. I can't say since I don't have your router, but maybe you can try reading this; http://setuprouter.com/router/asus/rt-n10/dns.htm I know it's not the same model as yours but the GUI should be similar.

What you're doing is the reverse though. In that link, they're switching from automatic DNS to manual, but in your case you want it to be automatic. SO just follow the guide until you go to the WAN DNS Setting part and make sure the "Connect to DNS server automatically" option is set to Yes.

**if you're unsure, just take a screenshot and post it here.

Also, sometimes certain devices won't use the new DNS servers unless you reboot them. This doesn't affect smartphones, but just in case, each time you make any changes to your network, just disable your iPhone's wifi for a few seconds before turning it back on again (or just turn on airplane mode for a bit and then turn it off).

G-17 okay so out of curiosity i tried downloading iOS 9 just now and it downloaded at normal speed; around 17 minutes or so for a 1.84gb file. shouldn't that point towards the TM issue we all faced before or is it still related with my DNS?

^ Like I said earlier, I don't think it's a DNS issue.

It's the same issue we experienced at the beginning of this thread. You guys with Twitter accounts need to spam TM support channel. It seems the problems are intermittent. It was back to normal for me last night but a few minutes ago I tried to update Pocket and Scanbot (total 70+ MB) and it took almost 10 minutes.

As for which DNS server you have to use, that's entirely up to you. Since you already set the DNS manually on your desktops, then you can just leave the router as it is. You can also set Your preferred DNS on iOS devices if you want. That way the corrupt government cannot prevent you from reading Sarawak Report =P

Maybe call 100. I think it would be better to create a temporary twitter account (use guerrillamaill.com or some other destructible email) and spam TMConnect.

yeah i'm gonna ask my friends to help contact them via Twitter to try and get some numbers up on the complains. so before they or anyone else would ask regarding troubleshooting methods, i have done the following;

1. off and on router (off for a while, 5 minutes or so)
2. change DNS to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 (in router setting)
3. i have restored my phone

i tried using DiGI LTE; no issues. i guess it's safe to say that we're facing the same issue we faced last month. and i'm back in the same situation as i was before; severely slow speeds right after restoring my phone. perfect. haih

Nothing to do with the problem of this thread, but I often suggest people to have a mix of Google and OpenDNS - Eg: 8.8.8.8/208.67.220.220 - That way, in the rare event that one DNS service is having issues, the other can substitute.

I've called Unifi to open a case for me and had them check it. They then sent a technician over to check after I lodged a report with CFM (http://www.complaint.cfm.org.my/) and all was fine and I had difficulty explaining to him that I'm getting uber slow download overseas including Apple Store.

I then updated my report stating that the issue is with the overseas connection.

The Maxis 4G speed isn't helping that much either and again I lodged a report with Maxis on this. Awaiting them to solve it else its another report with CFM again.

I suggest the rest of you lodge a report with CFM so that our ISPs will have to take action and solve this issue.

so does that mean it's fixed for you? we faced this issue before and what we did was report via their Twitter channel. once there were a number of users reporting the same thing, they acknowledged the issue and looked into in. next thing we know the problem was solved and we managed to download at normal speed again. if i'm not mistaken it took them a couple of days, but definitely not more than a week.

if it's fixed for you, then it's definitely strange because i don't think this is an isolated issue due to the fact that a number of users (and other Unifi users) are affected by this, as well as the high similarity with last month's issue. but if the technician really did something about it then i would definitely call them over too haha

not everyone is affected by this issue. only Unifi (not sure about Streamyx though) users. if update/download apps via Maxis, Celcom & DiGi 4G/LTE no problem. so no reason for Apple to update the App Store status if a particular ISP is to blame (which is TM).

Got the technician came over for trouble shooting. Repaired the cable, change new router, result still negative. Have told them only Apple Apps download/update having this issue. Also prove them using VPN download no problem at all. They have no idea and will update to their network team to follow up.

Got the technician came over for trouble shooting. Repaired the cable, change new router, result still negative. Have told them only Apple Apps download/update having this issue. Also prove them using VPN download no problem at all. They have no idea and will update to their network team to follow up.
*
just as i thought; the technician won't be able to solve the issue. because the nature of this issue seems to be widespread, meaning everyone should be affected. so the source of the problem shouldn't come from the user's side (house) but from TM's side. TM should troubleshoot on their side. and with only a particular situation is affected (app store) i highly doubt changing the cable or router would fix it.

I found something might solve this. I this it's related to the DNS and the wifi connection. I change the DNS on my phone to the one I bought to watch Netflix, I noticed the download is faster. And so happened that I tried the download near to my router, the phone next to the router, then BOOM. All download/update finish within 10 minutes.
I try to change the DNS to auto as per router IP. The download stuck again, switch back to the purchased DNS IP, it working again. But the download slowing down when I back to my room, the router is in opposite room. I tried to test the download again near to router then download resume rocket speed.
This is really weirdo. But at least I found the way to resume high speed download although it's not convenient.

iOS 9 download was not affected for me. App Store downloads are still slow at default DNS. Nothing from TM yet but my Speedtest got good results lately.

Apparently, unifi at my house seems fine but stuck only 1 or 2 apps. Otherwise looks all good thought!

I'm using unifi 30mpbs for RM 199 permonth....seems working beautifully for Apple tv to watch netflix and hulu...

How are you chaps managing to talk to anyone with a brain when you call 100? I called 100 and have been on the phone with this utterly stupid operator who doesn't know shit.

Also, if I want to open a report, there's this idiotic new policy where I either have to make a one-off payment in the event they find some problem with my equipment, or I have to renew the contract. What kind of conman job is this? There's nothing wrong with my equipment because I can browse xvideos and sarawakreport no problem!!

Now she wants to open a report to schedule an appointment for a technician to come my house. Sorry lah kak, I have no time to have your mat rempit technician come to my house because there is no problem with my fuckin house. You trying to tell me jin_akira and I live in the same street having the same problem is it?

Hey guys, can all of you who have a twitter just spam those motherfuckers to death. If not they won't ever fix this. Heck, I don't even think they know where to look.

yeah that's the kind of response my friends have been getting regarding this matter. "we're still investigating, will update, bla bla". if calling 100 is as useless as their Twitter response, we're doomed.. how else can we speed up this matter if on one end they're asking us to wait (Twitter) and on the other they don't understand anything (100)

hmm i'm updating now and the strange thing is OTA is slow. the size is only 35mb but they estimate 22 minutes. if update via iTunes i'm pretty sure it'll be blazing fast. so why are downloads slow only on iDevices?

BTW using unifi 20 in office and at home unifi 10, both are slow without VPN.

Now looking to get a cheap VPN, any recommendation ?

Can't be. I can download the OTA iOS updates at normal speeds. Same for anything else I download. It's only app downloads and updates from the App Store, music from ITunes, and books from iBooks that are slow. Exact same case using the iTunes desktop app on a Mac or Windows machine. I can download the new OS X update or new iTunes version (for Windows) fast, but the moment i launch them and want to download an app or book, it crawls.

Thanks for your earlier guide. I think too much hassle to key in emails. After all have to restore gigabytes of apps ! I found free Open VPN but is a bit technical to setup. Manage to download > 50% in a couple of hours ! Compare to overnight download not moving at all.

Here is the guide for those who is interested,

@jin_akira , you are right about TM. Because early last month, I do an icloud restore for iPhone, it was working well. Definately it is a TM problem.

I think it has always been 2 weeks now. Slow App Store updates via Unifi 20mbps @ Sri Petaling

Upgraded to ios9 using iTunes and the download and upgrade process didn't take too long.

Updating iOS apps via iTunes also same, very slow. Could the reason be caused from the malware attack on the apple App Store that was revealed recently? They are doing a spring cleaning for the entire App Store. Their servers running at limited capacity.

It is confirm TM unifi problem. Earlier it was my iphone restore very slow. I manage to solve it by using VPN. Today I do another download, this time Mac OS Yosemite for mac. Slow as snail, estimated time to take 3 days !

So I use VPN for my Mac, now almost finish downloading 5.72GB after 3 hours.

Not only apple store website. Other websites in Europe also very slow. But TM's reply that it is still investigating after 1.5 months is totally unacceptable. I use my office's internet (both TIME and Maxis broadband) to update the apps, no problem at all - including upgrading to IOS 9 and today 9.01.

Yeah til now still investigating. Just now i resorted to using some random DNS server i Google-d. Managed to update my apps though not at full speed but way faster than Unifi's current speed. The weird thing i noticed after updating to iOS 9 was that when i updated my app just now, it did not grey out and show that pie-chart-timer thing. When i checked the App Store it showed that it's downloading but it did not show up on the app icon itself. So i monitored the App Store update tab and soon as the download finished, it didn't move for a while, then next thing i know the app moved to the recently updated part.

Usually when i update my apps the app would grey out and show the download progress. As soon as the download finishes it would show that it is installing and when it's done installing the app icon will turn back as it was. Now it doesn't show anything at all but apparently the apps are updated. Are you guys facing the same issue or is it not an issue and part of iOS 9? Scared that my apps may have not been updated and got confused or something due to the DNS change i did..

For most people complaining on this thread, it's not the iOS updates that are slow. Only updates and downloads from the App Store, iTunes and iBooks are suffering. OS updates are still fast.

Nope my OS ota update still slow like dunk.something strange happened. Without turning on off router, I just disable and enable wifi on iPad. Then updates become fast again. Really lead me to think iOS wifi issue...same symptom as previous forumer.

App store downloads is still slow, but iOS downloads works fine tho, tried resetting the router that one time and the speed went back to normal, other than that it is still painfully slow.

Its weird that its only affecting App Store downloads.

App store downloads is still slow, but iOS downloads works fine tho, tried resetting the router that one time and the speed went back to normal, other than that it is still painfully slow.

Its weird that its only affecting App Store downloads.

Had the same problem for a week or so. The apps update download is so slow and I haven't been able to update all my apps for days... I use to be able to update 10 to 20 app with Unifi 5mb in less than 1 hour. shakehead.gif doh.gif

Do you guys think it's a good idea if we share this topic on their Twitter channel just to show them how many users are affected and all the measures we've taken to try and solve it?

Share if you want. I got nothing to hide. I don't see how it'll speed things up though. There's people complaining on Facebook, Twitter, 100 and still no response.

What I'm surprised is that not enough people are complaining. Guess it just goes to show that the majority of people don't use anything more than the stock apps included on the phone, and maybe download an additional Facebook and IM app.

Seriously, I can't update shit right now. When you require apps like Slack for team communications in your company and can't update the app, you lose productivity and are susceptible to security issues. Will TM reimburse me for lost income or a breach in my privacy?

Just received a call from a TM dude. He mentioned that the tech department said the issue was resolved and asked me to test. I tried out an app download from my purchased list and it was still slow. So I told him that and he said he'll report it for me and follow up. After he hung up, I tried disconnecting and reconnecting (current I.P = 175.140.x.x), and my regular download speed seems to have returned (or at least 80% of it, give or take). I'll wait a day or two to see if it's really back for good, or some temporary thing.

*fingers crossed*

Must be their lousy firewall blocking the ports. Imagine which childish company still blocking websites via dns?
Something strange happened again. My iOS update was estimating 6 hours after I waited for an hour already.
I went and turn off wifi on iOS device, turn back on without touching my router.
The next thing I know, the 900mb update completed within 1 hour...
This leads me to more and more suspect is iOS wifi driver issue. Or unifi just need to continuously 'reactivate' to keep the download from getting stagnant.

hmm no difference for me. tried downloading SpeedTest by Ookla and it would usually just zip through the download seeing that it's only 19mb. but it still moved at a slow pace. though not as bad as before, but still slow given the speed that i'm using (20mbps)

Definitely something fishy going on here. One moment the bar around the circle flies, then it suddenly slows as if it's throttled. Stupid third-world country. Luckily earlier I went back to Singapore and managed to update everything.

to those got slow App update via unify or other wifi change your DNS to Google DNS rather on relying on your router to automatically set for you..

go to:

System Preferences -> Network -> Wifi -> Advanced -> DNS tab

Inside DNS server column input the Google DNS server: 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 (refer to pic attached)

Attached Image

on iPhone click on the ! button beside the wifi you're connecting with and set the DNS there.. separate the address with a comma.. hope this helps..

after few testing, it seem that it always fast if i connected to vpn regardless what time it is..
but without vpn it only fast during morning time before work , 5-8 am .
after that it started to slow down. i dont think it is driver issue with ios since i got multiple ios devices and mostly the result same.

unfortunately we've been through this process way way back. it's one of the first few things we did to troubleshoot. and yes, it still does not work. you can check the first page to see what we've done to try and fix it.

so far that's confirmed is Unifi users; no matter what speed and area all are affected. Celcom previously seems to be closely linked to this issue as well, but can't confirm for now since no Celcom users complained yet. no problems with Maxis Fibre and DiGi LTE; it downloaded really quick. we might have to add calling their centre simultaneously while spamming their Twitter, though i still don't have high hopes for that outcome..

the thing is we shouldn't even go through the extra hassle of using a VPN, it should work right of the bat. and it doesn't help that the good VPNs have to be paid, then got quota lah.. and yes, restarting the phone after changing the DNS still does not work.

Mine is inconsistent still. Some days the app update speed is acceptable and some days it drives you nuts.

UniFi VIP10 in Klang

Edit: Oh, but I have to say that updating iOS (from version 9.0.1 to 9.0.2, about 60++ MB) was very fast.

uhh i need help for those who are familiar with Twitter. i tried logging in just now and a message came out asking for my phone number and it would not proceed to my account until i keyed in my number. so i keyed in my phone number and asked for the verification code but the sms never came, even after a couple of hours. after a while i tried again and now it says this:

QUOTE
Due to a technical issue, we couldn't complete this request. Please try again.

what do i do? what is stopping me from receiving my verification code via sms? i'm pretty sure i keyed in the right number (1X-XXXXXXX = +601X-XXXXXXX)

Why didn't they just announce on Twitter? I'm still out so can other users test it? If more are getting their original speed then no need to harass TM anymore

i called 100 just, needed to verify something with Unifi. while i was waiting for my call to be transferred, an automated message said that Unifi is experiencing issues with App Store downloads and they are currently investigating it. so yeah issue is still ongoing unfortunately and they've acknowledged it to be from their side..

Back in J.B since yesterday. Sometimes the speed is normal, but sometimes it crawls. Faster than the constant "waiting" I used to get before, but still unacceptable. Also, just like @attw some posts before, I got another call asking to upgrade to Unifi 30, so this time I used the same excuse he did - told them to fix App Store downloads first. Of course the rep didn't have a clue on what I was referring to. Sigh....

I'm on UNIFI 20. It was fine until the last few months. I suspect, UNIFI has either a botched caching server or they throttled anything *.apple.com.

I believe Apple made changes on their side which affected many.

Attached Image

This user is on M1 Singapore, reported the issue to his ISP and was resolved few days later. I think it all goes down to how the ISP communicates and works with Apple on this.

Yes, I don't face any of these issues with Maxis as well as TIME. Seems to affect the folks on Unifi.

The problem comes and goes. Sometimes it crawls and sometimes it blazes. To add to that, Apple seem to be having some issues of their own. There have been (afaik) two documented outages for iTunes and/or the App Store in the past 7 days, and in between that people from all over the world have had issues with downloads stopping midway, apps not updating properly, etc. Yesterday while I was in Singapore, there were a couple of instances where downloading an app wouldn't start, so I had to stop the download and start it again, and then it blazed through. Also one app update completely downloaded (the circle filled completely) but than just stayed like that forever without changing to the "Open" icon like usual. Had to completely delete the app and install it again. Now back in JB and had 1GB worth of updates (Pages + Numbers + Keybnote) in the morning and the speed was normal, but just now I needed to update a 50MB app and it started crawling again. At this point, I'm not even sure if it's a TM caching/throttling problem or some issue on Apple's side. Also experienced this same slow download or stuck at waiting issue with my Singapore ISP (MyRepublic Internet) a few days ago, but they managed to resolve it in two days.

Dang just read your post, tried it out and yeah, back to crawling speed. I read somewhere online about ISP providers needing to download a firmware or something from Apple, so they should communicate with each other. Don't know whether it's true or not though

Ugh you're right. Tried downloading an app i downloaded earlier; Wake Alarm Clock. Was way slower compared to just now. At least we roughly know the 'normal speed' window, which is around 3-5pm. I'll try to download around that time again tomorrow to test it out.

Okay i tried downloading the same app earlier and the speed is back. Will have to test in the coming days to determine whether these supposed windows are consistent and realible or just plain random. So far it's;

3pm-5pm
3.30am-?

yes changing the DNS is the temporary solution for now, no doubt about it. but for some weird reason it's quite exciting seeing the speed resume back to normal, like a seeing a shooting star haha despite the fact that the speed is what we paid for.

Downlding apps so slowwwwww.
Called also to complain and reminded them again that if one user is experiencing a problem then it's the users fault but if hundreds got problem and they acknowledging it then it's tm problem.

All they said was sorry and their technical team is rectifying the situation. I see ts posted this since last month. Blasted them also saying users have been complaining since august.

What type of technician are u guys hiring..

Yeah i can confirm this morning (5am - 10am) was really fast. Barely a few seconds and the app finished downloading. As soon as it reached 11am (if i'm not mistaken but was about to reach noon) the speed dropped back.. Managed to download almost everything back though except for 2-3 apps (i restored this morning)

hmm mine is the opposite though. if you call the normal technician, i highly doubt they know what's going on. try calling 100, choose the language, choose Unifi and then press 2 if i recall correctly (the option where you have technical difficulties and you need to speak to the operator). before my call was forwarded, an automated message played saying that they are having technical problems with App Store downloads and are currently investigating. even their official Twitter channel are saying the same thing. the damn problem is they have been investigating for how long already..

Yes very inconsistent symptoms. When slow, I turn on free vpn also slow. So I am starting to think it is really App Store issue...
But cannot explain why if via mobile data no issue???
*
aik VPN also slow? i thought VPN has been the most helpful so far (i don't use it personally though)

Something I've noticed for the last 4 or 5 days on both my Singapore ISP and TM UniFi;
When the update starts downloading and it crawls very very slowly, stop the update and start again. Usually the second or third time I restart, it'll fly like normal. Weird, but that’s what's been happening for me.

Random. Depends on luck. Turn off and on wifi in the phone might also help.

yeah that's what would happen sometimes, really slow updates compared to downloads. for me when the update is slow, i'll delete the app and download again (during the fast time slots though). if i'm not going out or anything i'll just leave it to update at its slow speed.

there's this weird bug that i'm facing where when i tap to pause an update or download, it'll grey out and pause like usual. then it'll suddenly resume to 'Loading' and the progress bar would just zoom all the way to the end, as if the download is finished. i would have to tap on it again just to pause it for good. when i tap to resume the update and download, it'll be stuck there for quite a while before returning back to its original progress.

for people new to this thread, here's a breakdown to ease your process.

Symptoms

1. slow updates and/or downloads in iOS App Store (all devices)
2. updates would sometimes be stuck at 'Waiting'
3. browsing, YouTube and others are just fine
4. desktop/laptop speed is unaffected
5. Android devices are unaffected

Actions taken by forumers

1. called TM (100)
2. wrote on their Twitter channel @TMConnects

Response from TM

QUOTE
Hi. Fyi, our team still diagnose on the issue. We unable to provide the time frame. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Temporary Solutions

1. change your DNS (8.8.8.8 or any other country)
2. use VPN
3. use mobile data (3G or 4G/LTE)
4. use other ISP (Maxis Fibre, YES 4G, etc)
5. download during these times; 3am-10am and 3pm-6pm. these are the time slots that some forumers and i have determined to have normal speeds, especially the morning window

For me, appstore downloads not affected, but restoring from iCloud takes ages, also couldn't turn on iCloud music library. Could only do it early morning 6am+.

No, its normal to be slow, but it's not normal to be timeout unless it's done early in the morning.

Yeah i updated some apps a few days back and the speed was normal but i didn't keep track of the time. I may have updated during the normal speed window. If not then the speed is back to normal for me. I have to run more tests though to be sure and time seems to be the issue for me..

Well you can try downloading a couple of apps before restoring your phone to test the speed. Make sure those apps varies in sizes; try downloading a 50mb app, then a 100mb app and finally a >200mb app. That way you can determine whether the speed is consistent or not. Like the last time i tried, an 80mb app downloaded faster than a 26mb app.

If it's normal then you can go ahead and restore. If the download is slow, then you may need to do it during these timeslots; 3pm-5pm and 3am-10am. Or just change your DNS but the speed may not be as fast as your original speed (at least for me back when i tried it)

for me the the speed is inconsistent but was not as bad as before. i tested just now around 1.45pm; there were a couple of small apps that needed to be updated. the first one updated fast while the second started out slow and halfway resumed to its normal speed. then i uninstalled a big sized game and downloaded it back. it downloaded fast. so maybe you can try uninstalling the app and reinstalling.

Yep, already did this even before seeing this reply, too. At first I tried uninstalling it by pressing the app for a couple of seconds. Didn't work. Then I went to the Settings and deleted the app manually.
Thanks anyhow. smile.gif

guys just a heads up; i restored my phone this afternoon and after loading in all my songs i proceeded to download back my apps (around 6.30pm) and i noticed that the downloads are quite inconsistent. in some instances, the bigger apps (>500mb) downloaded at normal speed compared to smaller apps (<20mb) which either downloaded at a really slow speed or would just be stuck at 'Waiting'. after deleting and re-downloading those small apps, the speed was back to normal.

then around 8.30pm the bigger apps were starting to download at slow speeds compared to the smaller apps. what made it worse was the downloads would just stop half way and they would ask me to retry again; in which it would download at slow speeds again or it would just be stuck at 'Waiting'. i ended up deleting the app and decided to try again later tonight or tomorrow. so yeah if any of you guys want to Restore your phone, do it when you're not in dire need of the app.

I think the problem has returned. App updates are crawling on TM connections (I'm on Unifi30). No issues with Celcom 4G or my Singapore ISP yesterday, so I don't think it's an issue on Apple's side. Must be Unifi. Checked their TMConnects twitter and it seems a few others reporting the same issue. As usual, TM is "investigating". Can anyone here confirm?

it's Unifi problem folks. AppStore is okay.

You guys can download Opera VPN (it's free). Connecting to that opera VPN via Unifi will allow back fast download for AppStore.

That's what I did until TM can resolve the congestion issue to AppStore.

hi there, was wondering are there any improvements since the last post? wanted to share my experience as well,

i have no prob downloading apps via DIGI LTE but whenever i switch to wifi its extremely slow, sometimes the connection gets terminated.

so i thought of doing a factory restore as i spoke to the customer service operator from apple, but then when i tried to update my itunes on pc, same prob! sad.gif

then i sort out to uninstall the whole itunes.exe and downloaded a new updated one, and the connection gets terminated not even halfway through the downloading.

i have no problem downloading any other programs, even my samsung tablet has no problem at the downloads...

gosh.

It's Unifi/Streamyx connectivity to AppStore is having issues. Like you mention, via Digi LTE is okay. Nothing wrong with your Apple devices.

Level 3's DNS server is located in the USA, so by using Level 3's DNS, Apple's CDN sees us as from USA and routes us to a server in the USA.

When we use TM, Google, OpenDNS etc, it will see us as from Malaysia and routes us to the nearest CDN server which I believe is in Malaysia itself. Somehow TM's link to this server is having issues which causes the slow download speed from Apple's CDN server located locally.

Yes VPN is a better solution as it will definitely route the traffic through their server's connection. Changing DNS is still a hit/miss thing, sometimes the CDN still routes back the problematic server.

Hi, can you teach me how to change the DNS?
1. You using Dynamic or Static PPPoE?
2. Primary DNS change 209.244.0.3?

Thanks guys for the solution.

The easiest way is to install OperaVPN app in your phone.

1. Install OperaVPN app in your phone (using 4G/LTE connection first)
2. Connect back to your WIFI.
3. Launch OperaVPN, follow the on screen instructions.
4. Recommended to choose United States as the region.
5. Go back to AppStore and try updating it.
6. Turn off OperaVPN once you have done updating.

Hope the above helps.

i do not think this is DNS issue. Cause DNS only resolve domain names. It is routing issue. Certain routes are slow and this cannot be controlled. Even TM have no control over how routes are to a destination.

LOL! I posted in August 2016 tongue.gif anyway, I seldom face this problem nowadays - usually if I have issues, I just use my mobile data for select apps, not all. Or I use my office's WiFi - we're using Maxis fibre.

Agreed, TM routing issue, but my TM DNS is also unstable, so I resorted to using 3rd party DNS nowadays.

I notice that this issue usually occurs during peak hours (after 8 p.m. at my area - Kelana Jaya). I resorted to updating my apps only in the morning. bangwall.gif
