Now I ponder 2 plans,

Plan A,
Buy XB271HU Monitor with GTX 1080 Estimate Cost RM6K++

Plan B,
Buy 24" (1080p Gsync 144hz) Monitor with GTX 1070 (or lower spec GPU). Estimate Cost RM4K

Choices, choices. sweat.gif

Investing in a GTX 1080/1070 to run 1080p is really a waste. The way forward is 1440p. FYI, you could now get an XB271HU listed at RM3199 with free Predator headset (worth M499).

Now is more like Plan A or C tongue.gif

I just place an order XB271HU Monitor via lazada. Last unit offer with 12 month installment via "Lok card" (credit card).

Have to eat bread more often for next 12 months. doh.gif
PS: Wife dunno yet. sweat.gif

Definitely not a waste. We haven't tested any games in 2017 yet.

Good deal.

Just curious on what GPU are you currently using.

Wouldn't say it is a waste if know how to utilize the god-like frame-rates attained. laugh.gif I have not seen Gsync or high-refresh rate monitors in the flesh but I assume it is far more superior than measly 60Hz displays. If gaming at 1080p on a GTX 1080, the 'overkill' can be put to good use. GTX 1080 does 1440p damn well too, but not providing the frame-rates like it does in 1080p.

With both the 1080 and soon, 1070 being so new to the market, demand > supply = HIGH prices! If you are able to hold off a bit longer, can get them at lower prices.

That's the plan. Wait another few months. Earlier thinking of getting GTX980 but since Pascal is around corner, I have been waiting until now.

Actually I don't plan to buy monitor first but I don't fancy paying RM3K cash. Installment plan (0% interest) deal looks good that's why I took it. Can't find another place with this offer.

The XB271HU is a good monitor with 1440p resolution, 144Hz refresh and IPS panel. It will serve you well for many years to come. Now, you just need to pair it with a decent GPU to enjoy the 144hz refresh

XB271HU is a great monitor, PROVIDED you can get a defect-free panel.

It has a lot of QC problems till this day. Dust stuck between the panels, mediocre to bad levels of backlight bleed and substantial IPS glow.

Asus PG279q. Although overpriced here, it has less problematic QC reports so far. That said, its time in the market is much shorter than the Acer XB271HU.

From the people I know personally, those who has the Acer DID RMA their screens 2 or 3 times until they got something satisfactory. 1 of them had dead pixels, a couple of them had pretty bad backlight bleed (which is quite common).

Still suggest to go for the Acer and just hope you get a good one. It's a panel lottery indeed, which shouldn't even be a thing considering the price premium.

RM4K budget is a lot. You can go 4K or 1440p 144 Hz. Depends on what you mainly use the monitor for? If you 90% gaming and watching FHD movies, I say go for a good ultrawide 3440 x 1440p 100 Hz monitor, or 2560 x 1440p 144 Hz gaming monitor.

If you the type that gawk at that super realistic photos and 4K videos shown on that gorgeus Apple iMac 27" 5K Retina display like me, than maybe you'll appreciate more getting yourself a good UHD 3840x 2160 monitor though you can only game on 60 Hz.

Like I said, if you get a bad panel, just RMA straight. Don't need cakap banyak with Acer. They know the issue, but they aren't doing much to alleviate it.

My advice is not to go for 4K UHD panels for computer monitors. I doubt anyone can really see the pixels difference between 1440p and 4K at monitor viewing distance (24" distance). Of course, if viewing at 1-6" viewing distance it is noticable, but who would view at that range for normal usage..

The optimal should be 1440p @ 27" at 120hz for computer monitor. Larger screen will require you to sit further, negating any benefit of increased pixel density.
