With all this discussion about 1070 & 1080. I wonder how many of you are going to upgrade to 1440p or 4K monitors ?

Or stick back to 1080p monitors. tongue.gif

I am still using a non 1080p mon (22" 1680x1050). Upgrading 1080p seems not too much difference, where as 1440p or 4K quite expensive > RM2.5K. If I buy 1440p mon + GTX 1080, it will cost me around RM 6K sweat.gif

Good question.

I am planning to upgrade my existing 1080p 47inch TV to 4K 50-55 inch TV along with the purchase of a new GPU.
Not a rush for either.

Currently using a GTX970 for 1080p which is more than enough for me.

It's been years no upgrade, I m still using GTX 660Ti. So this time it is a big upgrade for me. Let's hope my pocket is big enough. sweat.gif

Take GPU first then only buy the monitor laugh.gif rclxms.gif

At the moment 1070 or 1080 is rare. I want to get non foundation card, hopefully cheaper.
Right now, monitor is available for purchase.

QUOTE(kianweic @ Jun 7 2016, 01:10 PM)
Suggest get a bigger monitor first followed by gpu.

Bigger monitor will give you immediate gratification which is not limited to gaming only.
*
OK. I am aiming for 1440p Gsync with 144hz. Think of getting Acer XB271HU, 27" can still fit my desk. It cost >RM3K,
rather expensive IMO, could probably buy a big TV. Hands already itchy... tongue.gif

IMO 4K monitors is just not there yet, with 60hz refresh rate. Currently I think, 1440p and 4K monitors is early adopters' market. Limited choices and probably next 2 years or so will drop price maybe to RM2k region.

Now I ponder 2 plans,

Plan A,
Buy XB271HU Monitor with GTX 1080 Estimate Cost RM6K++

Plan B,
Buy 24" (1080p Gsync 144hz) Monitor with GTX 1070 (or lower spec GPU). Estimate Cost RM4K

Choices, choices. sweat.gif

And that will be 5k plus all in laugh.gif

Now is more like Plan A or C tongue.gif

I just place an order XB271HU Monitor via lazada. Last unit offer with 12 month installment via "Lok card" (credit card).

Have to eat bread more often for next 12 months. doh.gif
PS: Wife dunno yet. sweat.gif

Investing in a GTX 1080/1070 to run 1080p is really a waste. The way forward is 1440p. FYI, you could now get an XB271HU listed at RM3199 with free Predator headset (worth M499).
*
Yes, I bought XB271HU for RM3199 with free Predator headset.

With both the 1080 and soon, 1070 being so new to the market, demand > supply = HIGH prices! If you are able to hold off a bit longer, can get them at lower prices.
*
That's the plan. Wait another few months. Earlier thinking of getting GTX980 but since Pascal is around corner, I have been waiting until now.

Actually I don't plan to buy monitor first but I don't fancy paying RM3K cash. Installment plan (0% interest) deal looks good that's why I took it. Can't find another place with this offer.

Asus PG279q. Although overpriced here, it has less problematic QC reports so far. That said, its time in the market is much shorter than the Acer XB271HU.

From the people I know personally, those who has the Acer DID RMA their screens 2 or 3 times until they got something satisfactory. 1 of them had dead pixels, a couple of them had pretty bad backlight bleed (which is quite common).

Still suggest to go for the Acer and just hope you get a good one. It's a panel lottery indeed, which shouldn't even be a thing considering the price premium.
*
Good luck to me then, already bought XB271HU... doh.gif sweat.gif

Already purchase Acer XB271HU monitor (27"), now waiting for delivery. Let's hope the monitor is without defect. sweat.gif

Next whether to buy 1070 or 1080, let's see...

Hey unker gamer laugh.gif

Me started in 97 with duke3d rclxms.gif

That time pc was not even pentium 1 yet with 3dfx gc brows.gif gold mang icon_idea.gif

Unker stories, heh heh. I started, let me see, in the 80s. Playing centipede (Atari 2600) in Sungai Wang Plaza. There was a demo event. Went to KL with friends just to play games in the arcade. Later era of home computer, ZX spectrum, Apple II and etc. Much later PC (286, VGA, floppy) until today i7 + Nvidia card. Yes, I can continue to play until very old.

Time passes very fast. Before you know it, you are already unker or aunties, ha ha ! biggrin.gif

So for those who laugh at unkers, you will be unker very soon. tongue.gif

Thanks.
Canadian price is quite similar to Singapore price via NCIX.

I am going with non-FE cards so will wait a bit longer.

I am considering the following:

1. Zotac GTX1080 or 1070 AMP Xtreme
2. Galax GTX1080 (the triple fan version)
3. Gigabyte GTX1080 G1 Gaming (the triple fan version)
4. Inno 3D GTX1080 (the triple fan version, available in Jakarta)
5. Colourful GTX1080 (the triple fan version, available in Jakarta)
*
Sounds interesting. Are you going to get the card from ncix.com online or buy it over there ?

just saw it at lelong, Palit is selling 1070 for RM1999. so tempting! btw normally which brands do you guys go with? and does one brand are more desire than the other? i always like Asus but their pricing always above than the others. :/
*
I am using Leadtek 660 Ti, still working fine. Now it is powering my 2K monitor (Acer XB271HU). Works quite well with HDMI, except for the display port. After trouble shooting, it looks like it might be cable or GPU card problem. The monitor's display port confirm working with a Macbook pro and different cable (mini display port). Display port is a requirement for G-sync.

Playing games on 27" 2K monitor is awesome ! 2K monitor is worth it. rclxm9.gif

Despite display port problem, I don't mind getting not so famous/popular brands like Palit or etc for GPU.

I sort of wished I bit the bullet and bought the Acer XB270HU during July last year when it was around RM24XX.

Given that I needed more screen estate I ended up buying a Philips 4K 40" Monitor instead. Would've bought the Acer as well if I knew what would transpire months later.  whistling.gif

The prices now for 27" 1440p (Freesync or Gsync) monitors are freakin insane in Malaysia.
*
Yes, 27" 1440p is expensive over here but Malaysia pricing isn't much difference compare the US. Let's compare, Acer XB271HU it costs RM3199 with free headset over here. Amazon listed around USD780 (RM3134), no free headset. I suppose this is still the early days for 2K/4K displays. I believe it will drop in the next few years. In fact GTX 1080 pricing, have a bigger difference over here.

I bought XB271HU, I must say I enjoy every minute of it. Simply awesome even with old GPU ! rclxm9.gif

I was pointing more towards the fact that our currency devalued so quickly(from mid to end of last year) and it became quite expensive because of that.

Never implied that the pricing in US became more expensive as well.  sweat.gif
*
True, it is our currency gone down.

Yup the G1. Got it on taobao (I work in shanghai) . Plenty of stock on taobao for gigabyte. Not so much for other companies
Yeah I probably will wait until a new model comes out. Thinking of sticking to 1080P. If I go 1440p I have to update my graphic card more often
*
Bro, some questions. If I buy it from taobao, how's Gigabyte warranty like ? Possible send it to their HQ in Taiwan/China for warranty ?

Plenty of GTX 1070/1080 in taobao it seems, looks tempting.
