What's the price of a GTX 1070 going to be here? doh.gif

Its going to be... GTX 1070 = GTX 980

And the trend will repeat, GTX xx70 current generation = GTX xx80 of previous generation.

Wait for AMD, let's see what they do and how Nvidia will respond laugh.gif

I'm curious to see their RX 480 which should be a competitor to the GTX 1060.

Expected GTX1070 price
Normal Edition MSRP USD379 x 5 = RM 1,895
Expect AIB to be around RM 2,000.
Founder Edition MSRP USD449 x 5 = RM 2,245

With all this discussion about 1070 & 1080. I wonder how many of you are going to upgrade to 1440p or 4K monitors ?

Or stick back to 1080p monitors. tongue.gif

I am still using a non 1080p mon (22" 1680x1050). Upgrading 1080p seems not too much difference, where as 1440p or 4K quite expensive > RM2.5K. If I buy 1440p mon + GTX 1080, it will cost me around RM 6K sweat.gif

Good question.

I am planning to upgrade my existing 1080p 47inch TV to 4K 50-55 inch TV along with the purchase of a new GPU.
Not a rush for either.

Currently using a GTX970 for 1080p which is more than enough for me.

Suggest get a bigger monitor first followed by gpu.

Bigger monitor will give you immediate gratification which is not limited to gaming only.

3 more days before releases of 1070.
But the news atm seems quiet.
I think just like 1080, the supplies will be pretty limited too.
Hopefully our retailers didnt mark up the price too much just like they did with 1080.

Haha... I'm still using a trusty old Dell G2410 1920x1080 display. Served me well for years. Been a 1080p gamer since I moved from a GTX 680 to now a GTX 970. As long as can max out settings at 1080p, I'm happy. laugh.gif Transitioning to 4k is costly and more so for someone from an older generation of hardware. We'll see how it goes in the future but 4k is now more reachable than ever before, advancements in single GPU performance is what I'm super interested in cool2.gif

Agreed, get the monitor first. Can still set game to run 1080P or 1440P if your GPU cannot go 2160p.

4k i don't think theres enough video content for it to be worth much. even for small size screens like 24'' ish 1080p works just fine.

maybe if people use bigger screens that will justify 1440p and eventually 4k..... the thing is, can your table top fit a bigger monitor? also the bigger it is, you may need to sit back further for such a bigger monitor. not to mention more pricier monitor the bigger you go.... also gpu needs to be pretty good to get good fps for those higher reso monitors.... so can the pascal do 60fps average at ultra settings for gaming? hmm.gif

Another consideration, the videos i watch are mostly 1080p, so watching on higher res screen the quality becomes more rubbish because it's not native reso..... if u try watch 1080p source on a different reso...

but for gaming some support 4k reso output.... so gaming there is an option for it (for some newer titles), but if it's for tv series/movies most of what i've seen is still 1080p hmm.gif

bottomline, 1440p gaming on a 1080p max settings definitely playable with good fps. still questions about 4k ultra hmm.gif going to reso's above 1080p has other considerations to look at whether it be the content you watch or the price tag that comes with going to a bigger screen.

PS: if you do get new monitor, those acer predator gsyncs look damn good. ah-ips with high refresh rates, low input latencies, low ghosting etc.... nod.gif

*update

just saw the review for this 4k monitor it says
QUOTE
3840 x 2160 resolution can support full 1080 HD resolution content and also Ultra HD "4k" content natively.

does that mean you can watch 1080p content on the 4k monitor without image quality reduction? hmm.gif

I've been on 1080p for sometime now and manage to max out settings with my 980 ti. Next change is to jump on the 1440p wide-screen bandwagon. Waiting for the 1080 ti to do this as the 980 ti will be too strained at that kind of resolution with max settings.

Assume you one one 27" 1080P monitor and another 27" 4K monitor, well the 1080P video will look the same in both. But if you run 4K content, it will look sharper on the 4K monitor than it will be on 1080P monitor. Sharpness depend on monitor size and res, and the of course the resulation of the content.

My 5.5inch phone screen with 1920x1080p res looks sharper than my Samsung 28" 3840 x 2160p monitor. Why? Coz the phone crams 400ppi whereas the monitor only 153ppi. A 28" FHD will only hacve 78.68 ppi. You can calculate ppi for any given screen size and resoution from this website https://www.sven.de/dpi/

People need to understand a few things regarding 1080p vs 4k.

4k monitors/TVs aren't actually 4k in resolution, it's actually 3440x2160 instead of the actual 3840x2160. Stop being duped by Hollywood.

3440x2160 is an EXACT 4 times increament of resolution over 1920x1080. All a monitor or TV need to do is to quadruple the FHD image into UHD without any further calculations. This is different to when 480p was upscaled to 1080p, or 720p going to 1080p. Neither 720p or 480p were linear increase in pixel count when being upscaled to 1080p, which is why 480p often looks like horseshit in FHD (even with the best post-processing scaler).

1080p looks like 1080p on a "4k" screen because it's a linear increase, not because your "screen looks smaller". You can play a 1080p image on a 120" screen through a 4k projector, you'll actually see next to no difference between that and a 1080p projector to a 120" screen assuming all post-processing are disabled. Of course, the 4k projector would have much more advanced technologies to further boost a 1080p image to look even better than it originally did. This goes the same for most of the high-end "4" (UHD) TVs on the market now a days.

All a smaller screen does is that it has much higher ppi/dpi, which will help mask aliasing issues, giving a perception things look sharper and better. The latter of which is actually down to panel quality as small panels are much more easier to produce in high quality than big panels are.

*EDIT*

As a side note, instead of aiming to go for 4k60p, I heavily recommend people to go for a 1440p (QHD) at much higher refresh rates if gaming on PC is the main target. 1440p at 120hz (or 144hz) is a whole new level of improvement IMO. Even better if one can have Gsync, that's godlike upgrade there.

I'll keep drilling this point, 1440p @ 120hz (or 144hz) with Gysnc is the best sweetspot for PC gaming now. 4k60p is just 1080p60 with sharper visuals, of which does almost nothing to improve gameplay.

4K monitors is 3840 x 2160, not 3440 x 2160.

3440 x 2160 is not exactly 4x 1920 x 1080... 3840 x 2160 is exact 4x of 1920 x 1080.

I think you meant it is not 4096 x 2160 (4K) smile.gif

A more accurate would be 2160p. Since {height}p nomenclature is almost always referring to 16:9 aspect screens.

whoa... nice, thanks for sharing.

In fact i'm struggling btwn 4k - 1440p monitors as most of the benchmark indicates gtx1080 can't achieve constant 60p on 4k, not to mention the 4k monitor price is expensive. (esp those curve monitor)

Now I'm aiming a 1440p monitor and gtx1080 should do the job rclxms.gif
