Don't forget about Cyanobacteria and Cyanotoxins contaminants which is highly heat resistance. Even boiling water unable to deactivate them, only specific carbon based filter can effectively absorb and contain those contaminants. There are very less water filter in the market that certified to remove Cyanobacteria and Cyanotoxins contaminants, eSpring water filter is one of them.

done some reading..

"Cyanotoxins are naturally occurring toxins produced by several species of cyanobacteria under certain conditions"

"Cyanobacteria (also called blue-green algae) are water-dwelling bacteria that are able to generate their own energy through photosynthesis"

As our water tank, pipes and water filters are not exposed to sun light, there is no way Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) can grow. Moreover, Cyanobacteria could be removed with chlorine which is already in our syabas water. Cyanotoxins in the other hand could not be removed with chlorine and boiling it will only make the toxin concentrated and more dangerous. Unless our water tank is exposed to sun light (not covered) or water treatment plan is affected with the algae boom, then only we will need to be worried with Cyanobacteria.

"Current treatments proven to reduce cyanotoxins include activated carbon, slow sand filtration, conventional filtration, membrane filtration, advanced UV and ozone"

Yes, you are correct but it only apply to US water treatment system. In fact, other western countries & Australia have the best water treatment compared to ours. They can directly drink the water from tap.
The best way to get rid of these contaminants is UV light which can effective destroy the membrane protein & deactivate it.

If you check clearly, it only certify one of it's filter's component only. Not as a whole system.

A good quality & safe water filter may cost a bit higher initially but a great system maintenance can be very affordable later on. When choosing water filter, the technology & how efficient it is should be priority as water filter is not something we buy frequently.

reviews u can read through this discussion thread, lots of debates and explanations.

1. Basic start, check for certifications but do not blindly buy because it has certifications. Some cheap filters RM 500-600 also has certifications but does not mean they could provide premium filtration quality. Certification is more like to show this company has consistency in their product and their product has some standards or quality, hence quite reliable.

2. Check what filter media is used and also ask them to show you. Some brands have big cartridges but the inside only have very little filter media or sometimes what is stated on the catalog is not really what is given

For a budget of RM600 and below, what is the recommended solution for counter top filtration?
I live in penang without a external filter.

Currently using ceramic + RO, I'd like to reintroduce the minerals for my 4 and 7 yo. Is it even a good practice?
