i was juz wondering whether can I survive in Singapore (moderately spending of 1500)?
No need to care abt my earning first. I juz need to know is 1500 expenses enough for a moderate guy that cant eat bread everyday and wont eat steak everynite too...

I do not wan a life where i use 1500 expenses a month but have no life. get wat i means? smile.gif
i wan to have a life and at the same time save... so i am estimating 1500 for expenses per month and i'm askin whether that is enuf to get a life in singapore and not everyday eat, work and go home sleep...

well, It's depend what kind of life style you prefer and might to tell what kind of life style you having now.
such as what is you hobby and what activities you normally do.

Singapore is some kind city life style, if you're city boy wouldn't hard for you to get used the life there. But social wise, it will never be the same again, even you will have new friends. I think you will still miss you you old pals & family.

My life in sg is everyday eat, work and go home sleep, not because of lack of dollars, but no enough of time since my job's work load is damn heavy. Time probaly the only thing that hold you from your life style.

can la if u earn 5k a month, no problem. Last year, I say anything below 3.5k is not worth going there for. Last year when i was there, my room rental was SGD450. Now the same location oredi raise up to SGD1k.....with SGD500, u gotto stay sumwer far away from work, unless your workplace is not in the city. So this year due to rental, anything above SGD4k will be good, or if u r from johor, y not.

in SG, SGD50 can last u a week of food (for me as a gal, maybe guy SGD100 la...and i am a big eater, no starving only on bread) everything dem cheap except for rental. Their food, big portion, FRESH and YUmmy......dollar to dollar everythign is cut in half, sometimes moer than half..wat else can u ask for.

Btw, r u goin thru an agency?

i'd choose to work in singapore anytime than in malaysia.. it's cheap.. cheaper than where i am right now Perth (1 portion of kuay tiao AUD8 ~ RM24, plus kuay tiao sucks.. chicken sucks, tastes like anti-biotic..) ..

anyways singapore is good, very very nice food if u know the place well, people there are more EDUCATED and CIVILISED than those in malaysia (like 90% of malaysians aren't really civilised.. biggrin.gif )

things u get in singapore are higher in quality, not like malaysia where u have to becareful of wat you're actually getting, fakes everywhere which shows how un ethical the malaysians can be..

theres like 1237868173 reasons on why singapore is better than malaysia, and maybe 10 reasons why malaysia is better than singapore..

i am not working in Singapore. but i am studying here...

i find Singapore an extremely boring place... heard from my frens that worklife here are very hectic and tough... same as my studies here...

but the pros is that you can earn big bucks compare in Malaysia... for instance, my sister's working in Singapore as a sale person in a departmental store and she earns SGD2000 a month.....

for me, the expenses a month in Singapore are about SGD 1000 inlcuding accomodation, foods, transporation etc...

but 1 in 3 working ppl in Singapore is a foreigner.....

My rental is 650, internet, cable TV, util prob another 120 = 770 gone. Other than that, food, shopping and etc is kinda cheap. But like what most ppl said, SG can be a boring place or exciting place. Excitement comes with a price I guess. Its your call at the end of the day what kind of life you want. smile.gif

Good luck. Btw, some company offers to pay for medical checkup & EP, some don't. My housemate needs to pay on his own for these 2....smile.gif

For 500 you can definitely find a room in Bedok. Bedok is still considered "cheap" in the east side. But be mindful on how far the HDB unit is from the MRT. I know ppl tend to take a bus to the MRT before going to work so in the long run, its quite taxing.

I agree that companies should pay for EP and Medical checkup fee but again it depends on the company. The small companies tend to cut cost here and there.

Anyhow, a piece of advice to all who wants to work in SG.

1) Ask about CPF compensation. CPF is meant for citizens and PRs but they are companies who reimburse it back to foreigners like us. I got cash reimbursement of 14% every month. I have an ex-housemate who gets reimbursement in the form of private insurance payment (not company insurance)
2) Ask about allowances such as phone, internet, travelling, hardship, house (unless you're an expat) and etc
3) Probation period, contractual (any hidden clauses like if you leave the company within 12 months u need to pay x amount...)...

These are more for personal benefits. I'm sure you all are well equipped with info about career advancement and etc....

Good luck people!

Cheers.

Hi, all.

I've received several calls from the recruiment agency and they told me that 2 months notice period is too long. The clients wanted me to buy myself out. Did anyone of you encounter this? Are your employers willing to wait for your notice period? I just feel that it's not worth it to buy myself out....however, I'm letting go a lot of chances. sad.gif

Also, do you guys state your current salary in RM? How to you estimate the expected salary in SGD? Let's say my salary is RM3000 now.

U need to do a research based on ur job field, working experience as well as ur status as a foreigner as in approximately earn how much for that particular post per month. After all, S'pore & Msia are 2 different countries with different living standard. It's advised to ask those ppl who've been working in sg and in that particular field.. thumbup.gif good luck!

No prob! I believe there is. Why does the company stop its employee to progress further by continue studying? As long your studies don't affect your work, it should be ok, right?

Perhaps, you can tell your interviewers that you will continue studying master and who knows, it will give them a better impression on you!! Anyway, mind to share which industry you are working in?
Yes, they have even 1-room flat. But these types of flat are usually for those poor ppl. You can refer here Types of HDB flat and median rental price per locations. Just one thing, some of the locations, the rental could be much higher than what is reported by HDB.

No, you better subscribe a new line in Singapore as their postpaid is considered cheaper if compare to M'sia 1-to-1 without conversion. I'm not sure about Singtel or M1, but I, myself use Starhub (line is not very good-like Digi). A lot of packages you can choose to suit yourself. I subscribe with free IDD 018. You can check on their respective service providers website for detailed charges Starhub, SingTel, M1. Just always remember to read carefully on their T & C as they have alot of charges, even free incoming call!! doh.gif  I never use Skype before (pardon for my ignorant...), so I can't tell you. IINM, u can call through MSN, right?

Hi Shawn, Does the HDB normally approves for rental of a whole flat to malaysian, let say a 1-room flat or 2-room flat??

No, I don't think so. Technically, the owner will ask permission from HDB to rent out the whole unit (which the owner, himself does not occupy it) and this usually applies to 3-room flat and above. Or perhaps you try to rent from HDB? However, most owners do not want to go through the hassle but still rent out their units. But bear in mind, this is an offense and the owner may get fined or something...can't really remember.

I wouldn't think you wanna rent a 1- or 2-room flat. It's not really a decent place to stay (no offense to those who are living there unsure.gif ).

Doesnt matter if u wanna rent it or not but property prices in SG has gone up alot recently. U r looking at a 2-3 bedroom HDB for 2k ++ thats like insane man. I was looking at renting a condominium (somehting like Bayshore) and thats like about 3-4k per month. Who could actually rent it man.

Anyway all those in SG going back to Msia this CNY ?

ya...these agencies want u fast, as most posts are intermediate.

And wat these agencies usually dun tell u is,

1. U are working under them, but working for their clients.
2. They can throw u anytime after the client duwan u and if they do not have other jobs for u. And u might risk being out of job.

If the SG companies r really genuine, they pay to buy u, not u buy yourself, normal practice anywer. And yes, be4 sign the job offer, demand that they pay CPF to u, make sure its calculated in your basic salary permonth, if u dun care about this, the company is not gonna be bothered remembering either.

Estimate SGD salary...SGD3k + 25% raise = SGD3700 - SGD4000--->but this depends on your market value and experience also. OH and dun forget to include your EPF amount in too. Which field are u in? If IT field...i can roughly tell u how much these agencies willing to pay.

A MAlaysian can rent the whole HDB, no matter 2 rooms or 3 rooms easily.

you just need to submit a form. Processing fee I can't recall but it's less than SGD 30. However if the start of your staying time is more than 2 weeks upon submitting the form you'll be charged SGD 100.

the submitting of this form serves as two purposes. One is to prove the owner is not housing illegal immigrant and the second is to protect the owner from damages (insurance claims)

there is no hassle actually...
