QUOTE(GeneJin @ Feb 3 2008, 12:21 PM) Icic, so it means they can oni tax me for a year right? Do they calculate by fiscal year? or amount of days we're working in SG? let say i quite before 183 this year, i'm not taxable for this fiscal year, am i correct to say so? errr....if u see my explanation, be4 183day, u are taxed 15%.....if less than 2 months, then u wont be taxed. If more than 184days, u r taxed using their normal tax system which will be much lower than the 15% tax

QUOTE(allele @ Feb 2 2008, 01:14 PM) Eat bread on everyday?! So terrible? U mean breakfast is it? haha.. I think the overall depends on how much u earn per month and the way u spend the money and allocating it for savings etc.. If the company got provide housing subsidy or accomodation, that would definitely helps a lot in saving some $. The company that currently offering me the job provides $600 housing allowance, which is very good. Added on February 2, 2008, 1:21 pmAny frequent SG-KL flight passenger here? In the near future i'll be travelling by flight often back to KL

Why PR can get a better job? What about those who've been working in Sg for few years? PR status more important than working experience? One of my frens who works in Sg was requested by his company to apply for PR after working for half year, and this is compulsory for them. Yet, he wasnt that happy coz he needs to contribute for CPF and in Sg.. you just wouldnt know how long u'll have to wait to get that money since the retiring age keeps extending pros & cons of PR?

Yes, they will calculate based on each calendar year basis. For more information, you can refer here. Yet, he wasnt that happy coz he needs to contribute for CPF and in Sg.. you just wouldnt know how long u'll have to wait to get that money since the retiring age keeps extending pros & cons of PR? Because most Singapore employers do not want to go through the hassle of applying working permit for employees. Usually, this is applicable for those executive and above positions. Perhaps, they also have quota to hire foreigners. Well, I personally was requested by my employer to apply for PR after working 6 months in the firm. If you are planning to work in Singapore for long term, opting for PR is a good choice. In terms of CPF, I don't think you will need that money so urgently, like your EPF in Malaysia, ain't it? Just take it as an investment (though the dividend payout by CPF is low compared to EPF, but it's in SGD!!). This post has been edited by shawnlst: Feb 3 2008, 10:30 PM

As a Singaporean, maybe I can shared a little more about what lcoals are facing. Not jsut Malaysians seek jobs in SG> with regard to pay issue about Malaysians being under-cut... some truth about that, not just malaysians, other nationals too. However, there are also those who just pay you for what your talent is worth. So ther eis both side of teh story.
As for locals, they too face the same problem. Even in Gov sector too, sometimes bosses tell you, if you don't like, someone else is waiting to fill your job, you can leave. However, much that they can say so, but how many really dying to join Gov sector? Even if there are, how many are really good in their roles? This is also what corporate world is practicing now, just matter of where and which companies..... Another thing is, many are on contract, that way, no retrenchement and pay out. Cotract over, no need for renewal, off you go if your pay is too high and then they start hiking new cheaper staff to do the same old jobs. This is something not just happening in SG, but in EU and US too.. just that since the last Fin crisis, this has more becoming a norm practice.. cause everyone wants to cut cost in bad times,l re-structuring, etc... whatever rubbish term they call it. This was especially so as reported in US. I see my brother-in-law joining a big Corporation replacing his former bosses, etc... now he is up at that position, I am just waiting to see when the next wave comes and everything will surely start all over again...
Nothing glamarious, if you made it here, earn what you can, at least you have MY to fall back on.. if you don't like it and have a place to retire.... earn higher power $, spend in MY...

Let say:
Room rental: 500 Transport: 150 Food: 600 Entertainment: 250
Total Expenses: 1500
So, anything above 1500 is saving? Let say I earn 5000 net of tax, therefore I can save 3500 every month?
Is 1500 expenses sufficient for a normal living life? (dun talk abt saving kau kau like eat bread everyday la and not spend too much like eat steak everytime)

(dun talk abt saving kau kau like eat bread everyday la and not spend too much like eat steak everytime) $600 per month / 30 days is $20 per day can eat steak everyday in sg. ( for food court one, not those fancy restaurant). Food in sg is cheaper than you think if you know where to find. Finding the right place to stay is important, don't believe the agent or whose ever friends, go inspect the place your self, check around neighborhood and the transport. With the right place, you can saving from transport & rental, even food if near by have economic food. wasn't easy to find a good one now days...... good luck!
