Excel route? I read about the low tech aquarium but when I talk to shopkeeper then immediately he push me for the co2 tank.
*
meaning using Seachem Fluorish Excel to replace the CO2. Small bottle should last many years for a 1ft tank.

shopkeeper probably wants to push the CO2 set sales laugh.gif

is there any recommended shop around cheras/ ampang area? i went to the 88 pet mart, they are saying it's impossible to do plant if no CO2.

my office tank has anubias, growing well without CO2 and under low light.

cheras / ampang not so sure. i always get my plants from the petstore at midvalley and the curve. more choices over there. plants as well as fertilizers.

another easy plant, if you dont mind a free floating plant - anacharis. this stuff grows like weed. just dump a few in the water, and after 2-3 weeks it will easily double in amount. smile.gif

my experience with shopkeepers:

"do you have smaller filter?"
"small no good one, even this size a lot of people complaint is too small, better get the bigger one"
*tank ends up being a whirpool, guppies restless, and plants are moving and uprooting inside the tank*

"do i really need to use the powder type soil for my carpeting plant?"
"need to use, otherwise very difficult for the plants to grow the roots around the soil"
*powder type soil is too fine and too loose, plants always get uprooted*

"my tank has blue green algae, do you have maracyn?"
"never heard of that, get some oto fish, it will eat the algae"
"but i read that no fish will eat the blue green algae"
"can one, put a few then will be clear in few days"
*puts oto fish in tank. doesnt even touch the algae*

"boss, how come the box says 20 LED but the lamp only got 18 LED?"
"this is new version, they still use the old box but the lamp inside is new version ady"
*googles about the lamp, cant find a single thing about the 'new' version with less LED*

My personal recommendation:

Plants: Petswonderland midvalley, Pet safari IPC
Tanks: Aquascape paradise shah alam (but not much choice if u want curved tanks). Petswonderland great eastern mall for all-in-one tank setup (E.g. fluval edge, fluval spec).
Filters: Petswonderland great eastern mall, Pet safari IPC
Lighting: Fish depot aman suria (apply member got 10% disc)
Fertilizers / conditioners: Petswonderland midvalley, Fish depot aman suria
Aquascaping (rocks, driftwood): aquascape paradise shah alam

For Pet Safari at IPC, got 2 sections. East Aqua occupies a small section in the Pet Safari and they sell plants/fishes/accessories, while Pet Safari themselves sell aquarium accessories as well (near the back). The prices can differ, so be sure to compare the prices if u're getting some accessories.

The ones i didnt mention here dont mean I dont recommend. Just that the above are the shops that I always visit. The pros here might have more suggestions.

solve the underlying issues :
1) excess light - reduce lighting period by 1/2hr each day
2) excess feeding - feed less or alternate days
3) excess nutrient to plants

your BGA is only localized? if yes, possible is your water flow in that area not enough too?

kimimaro's chemical warfare also will help too but i usually leave it until the last straw. smile.gif

hi @doraemon9078,

the nutrients maybe need to cut back as well and then increase it later on. because if its either work of light or nutrient that causes algae.

for the lighting period, u may want to reduce it to 6hours. if there are signs for any trouble, you may reduce it even further. FYI, my 4ft tank only turn lights on for 4-5 hours using led 40W (but mine is red/blue growlight) so far it reduced my BBA which is even more headache. plants seems doesn;t mind the reduced light wattage (previous on same 4-5 hours photoperiod).

hope it helps in your case.

icic, but i think is coz of my lazy cause it. coz previously i dun care, let the plant crawl all over the tank.
now renovate & re-plant, realise those algae is come out nearby the soil there

guys,i just bought a nano tank, size is approximately 30X20x20cm. Got a few small fish and some plant from xian long shah alam along with some gravel and coral-ish sand(dunno what its called)
Being a complete noob,i dont get any substrate or proper lighting, thinking the plant can survive on its own. Its kept in a dim room with some sunlight shines directly to it but at a really low intensity.
after i set up the tank,i spend a few hours online to get a clue on aquascaping.thinking adding some low light foreground plants and do i need a proper lighting for it? Can you guys guide me on where to buy substrate, plants and do i need fertilizers?. Was gonna visit aquascape paradise shah alam and fish depot PJ today to survey.
also thinking bout adding a crayfish or bettas to the community but issit safe?
Im trying to keep my tank as low cost as possible until i have enough knowledge to venture to high tech tank with co2 and all.
sorry if im being vague..i have little clue on what i should include. Guide me please

Hi..is there any procedure in reusing used ADA amazonia soil?(already been used by other person for couple months). i planning on buying 3 x 9L of it and after a bit "research", some say i need to dry it, fert it again, and then can be put into setup..but some say, just let i damp..im not in the base setup phase yet as i only have used 2.5' tank (need to be clean from excess silicon glue and repaint black for the background) and used driftwood..

is there any precaution for the soil during the waiting period until base setup phase?

im planning on doing dry start method for the plants, DIY co2, DIY top hob filter.
