Congrats! I think you put way too much water for DSM. It should be moist but not soaking wet. Also cover the tank for high humidity and temp.

QUOTE(jenniferjen @ Aug 19 2015, 08:01 AM) Thanks for all the advice, after few research, decide on the shiruba xb303. Now to find the reliable shop that sell this filter. if you're getting it, and using the 1 piece charcoal filter media, make sure you wash it and change it regularly... else your water outflow will greatly affected by it... like every 2 weeks to 1 month once for cleaning... i'm using one and wash and change until boring due to the dirt kept clog up the media This post has been edited by aH wAi: Aug 25 2015, 05:56 PM |

I'm afraid that fungus/mould starts growing on the soil... looked like there was a bit when I didn't completely submerge the soil... |

The main thing about DSM is the plant uses CO2 from the air not from the water. If you submerged it under water without extra CO2 supply, that's not DSM. And with the rich fertz soil, you might get algae.

DSM is to allow the plants to get CO2 from atmosphere, and deal with algae problems. |

Guys. I am interested to start a small planted tank. But I prefer low tech without co2. Is there any suggestion which type of plant to go with?

Is there any suggestion which type of plant to go with? low tech choices would be anubias, java ferns, and java moss. There are many others but I cant recall. If you're going the Excel route, your choices would be more. |
