HSBC cards has to be one of the most difficult for me to get.

Few years ago I tried to apply and got declined because I missed their one and only phone call (verification). I am an night owl and they called in the morning. Just ONE phone call.

Just recently, I tried to apply again (for some free gift) but just got word that I got declined again because they tried to call my workplace but due to some miscommunication, they were unable to verify my job/post and don't have the decency to notify me on the current update on the status until I contacted them personally.

Meanwhile, my Citibank card applied later than HSBC got approved and waiting to receive it today. No luck with HSBC. Maybe will try again after few months cooling period before eligible for free gift again.

Is the HSBC Visa Signature 12x swipes for free annual fees still true? I saw the first thread mentioned that we need to pay in advance and call for a waiver.

Besides this, it didn't state that the first-year annual fee is waived. Does that mean I will be charged RM 600 for the first-year annual fee upon activation, and only get waived for the second year provided I swiped 12x per year?

Last year I didn't meet x12 transactions on this card, hence received statement (Dec) that annual fee charged.
I then called to CS team ask for waiver and no payment was made for annual fee.

If you're new to bank, usually there is no AF for first year, annual fee will be charged on following anniversary year.
