Have you ever thought of why HONEYCOMB shape was invented on washing machine tub surface, fridge insulation layer, aircon filter/vent(including GaGa's aircon vent)? Have you ever thought of why SNOWFLAKE structured in hexagonal pattern?

They're not related at all it seems, but there's a speculation of such hexagonal shape best fit with colder molecule. Am wondering if we can have a fibre formed honeycomb structure act as an agent to reshape intake air would helped hmm.gif But ofcourse, if we wanted the other way round would be using aluminium and or any other metal base materal to form the honeycomb shape it would become even hotter doh.gif

Nothing to do with snowflake shape la sweat.gif

An extruded honeycomb shape (hexagon arrays) creates most surface area per volume per amount of material used, compared to square, triangular or circular arrays.

Bees create honeycomb shape nests because this way they can fit most amount of chambers in a limited space with minimum amount of wax.

In short, it is simply a more efficient shape if the target is maximum contact surface area with minimum restriction.

QUOTE(davidke20 @ Dec 23 2014, 11:35 PM)
Cooler air has a higher density, thus containing more oxygen per volume unit than warmer air(from WIKI). If the intake air is already HOT, given enough time to chill the air, the density wouldn't increase because that's the amount of air taken into the intake funnel whistling.gif So, basically you nailed it whistling.gif Heat wrapping doesn't change the combustion, but actual air intake temperature before the intake funnel does. In other word, make the atmosphere cold before you drive out, or plonk NOS whistling.gif To answer on behalf of cikgu CLASS OF tigabelas, water coolant is meant for cooling the engine down, has nothing to do with intake temperature. Older vehicle has a intake design of directing a funnel to exhaust manifold to suck hot air in the winter, whereas another intake funnel pointed between headlamp and radiator for cooler air intake during the summer laugh.gif On a general consensus, cooler the better but NOT freezing cold.

Have answered Quazacolt with honeycomb philosophy, not sure whether that will help. The trouble is, honeycomb structure will create more air restriction.
*
So to sum it up, insulating the intake system has very little effect sweat.gif

Point taken, so I shall go open up my GaGa akon vent and cut the honeycomb off laugh.gif

More like insulting car manufacturer on their design sleep.gif Stock design is at balanced optimal in all region. When you heat wrap it, at the same time you trap more heat on a standstill, just like oven baking dori fish

user posted image

There's also another saying of wrapping the exhaust piap, which again it's very little relation with intake temperature. More like prevent exhaust heat killing the surrounding electronics and plastik material stuff(including our well known valve cover leaks)

user posted image

But again, it's another insult to car manufacturer. Don't they already know that damn sotong is hot enough to melt an ice burg? Cost wise, not efficient with tedious work required, time consuming. Worst it gets, the manifold inner core heat will be trapped! The metal surface that covered will not be able to dissipate heat at all. Imagine this, everytime raining you'll be worrying will your manifold crack, will you still be able to enjoy the car? laugh.gif Hence stock header always came with a simple piece of aluminium cover that act as heat transfer agent, and shield the manifold from rain water direct hit nod.gif

And it would seem that it's fastened by a gorilla with a rattle gun, I checked mine out when new and it was a real chore to undo the bolts holding it, I used a pipe on the socket to gain more leverage. I'd reckon after a while they would be near impossible to remove.

Blast! what's worse is we must have a catalytic converter fitted, so changing to a lovely header system like I've seen on here is near impossible.
Fines here for breaking any rule are usually enough to empty anyone's bank account.

Sorry about that but happily for me it does say somewhere about the forum rules that english is the preferred language, so I don't feel I'm too out of place.
To put things is some perspective being caught speeding here like you chaps seem to love doing up and back from Genting would involve a fine something like AU$800, plus an automatic 6 month licence suspension and perhaps even having the car impounded. I fear being caught without the CC would be even harsher, it's far safer for us to have the car looking as stock as possible.

Oh i am sorry mate... didnt know you were from down under...

Nice having an international member too. I believe you need to check your local laws then.

Here in malaysia, almost anything goes and by I saying "sunat" the bloody thing off is by cutting it off... chuckles...

Yes boss. Anyway, in the next month, I have KIV 2 options for my Saga upgrade.

1. Davidke20's 15 inch rim upgrade. flex.gif

Or

2. 4-2-1 manifold change, after cutting off that damn Catalytic Convertor, Swirl Bullet and S Flow can. Either 1 but most likely number 1.

Nice discussion...seems like we on the topic of heat...

I've removed my heat wrap due to the foil was old and didn't have new one to put it back one. My OBD2 device kaput already so I can't get any temp reading after removed. I also have DIY wrap my exhaust header previously and this really made the engine bay a lot cooler it is obvious from the recent track day I took part in SIC. Before that without exhaust wrap when I pop the hood I can feel the heat just whoosh up in my face..even my friend who drive a persona commented that my engine bay didn't felt hot compare to his.

If we want to cool down the intake air there's another way which is to put a sprayer motor and a fine most nozzle drill and tap it into the air intake ram. Just make a switch that can make it spray a very fine must of about 1sec...this is what I had in mind just like IC sprayer

Dear Sifus,
I owned flx 1.6SE.
I have a little problem,
when the car is already running for a while and the engine is already hot,
when I stop and parked for a while, it's difficult to restart, like semput-semput.
Cold start in the morning is OK.

What is the problem?
hope someone can enlighten.
