Well, i was planning to overclock my CPU but i dont know what voltage is suitable for the original AMD Heatsink. since i dont have enough budget to purchase a good cooler, what 's the maximum voltage that i can set to maintain the temperature with my current heatsink?
i'm using AMD Opteron 146 2.0Ghz and i've overclocked it with Overclock AI 30% to 2.6Ghz with default Voltage 1.44V
and i also wanted to overclock my memory. i'm currently using Corsair XMS PC3200 C2PT 512X2.
my board max voltage for processor is 1.450 and the max frequency is 400. i'm currently at 2.60. i've tried to set up to 300 but it crash. then i set to 290, the temp raised to 57.
is there any way that i can raised it to 300X10?
*

try with stock voltage ( maybe +0.05 ) push until unstable .
my original heatsink ( after lapped ) can keep around 55C load temperature close casing using 1.5V .
default Vcore should be around 1.35-1.4V for most s939 processors .
try to use manual BIOS setting not Overclock AI as you'll learn more especially the memory controller part .
ok , set everything to default and go download a small program called A64TWEAKER
write down these following value ( http://techreport.com/articles.x/9328/3 )
MEMCLOCK MODE limit
MEMCLOCK VALUE 166 or 133 if unstable
CL 2.5
TRAS 7 or 8 if unstable
TRP 3
TRCD 3
TRRD refer tweaker usually 2
TRC refer tweaker usually 10 or 11
TRFC refer tweaker usually higher than TRC by 2 , 3 or 4
TRWT refer tweaker
READ PREAMBLE auto
ASYC LATENCY auto

what can i do with my old man rig and how? spec :-
AMD64 2800+   socket 754
1.5GB DDR400 ram
Asus K8N4-E mobo
Gigabyte 512mb DDR2 8500GT
400Watt true power enlight power supply.
cause i upgrade my gc last few months back and still only manage to put low setting for Fifa 08. sien . waste of my money.Old man is old man cant help. hehe

to be honest , i don't expect high detail from a 8500GT , try lower the graphic detail .

Guys, i have a problem here.
my system:
Processor - AMD Opteron 146
M/Board - ASUS A8R-MVP ATI Express 200 Crossfire
RAM - Corsair XMS PC3200 C2PT 512X2
at 1st, i overclocked it straight to 3.0Ghz with 1.400V but it crashed. then i try step by step from 2.0>2,6>2,7>2,8 and lastly to 2.9 Ghz with the highest Voltage which available with my board that is 1.450 but the temperature raised to 57 degree. well, is it enough for 1.450 V to boost up to 4.0Ghz???
*

according to google , your mobo support up to 1.55 for Vcore and 3.2 for Vdimm thumbup.gif .
haha , K8 will never do 4.0GHz easily . some even struggle to reach over 3.0GHz .

check whether thr's any option in bios called cpu overvoltage (or sumthing similar to that), it is available in a8r32mvp board. smile.gif

yeah.... i enable the over Vcore voltage but it still shows 1.45 in the bios but in the CPU-Z, it shows 1.55v. does the available Vcore voltage depends on the processor itself as well??

in my bios, the manual setting to overclock the processor have maximum of 400mhz and my multilpier is 10. so, i can tune it up to 4.0Ghz but how can i do that with the current Vcore voltage?? any idea? i tried 2.9Ghz but it restart when i logged in the desktop. the temperature is around 55 degree on 2.9Ghz. the max i can go with stable is 2.65Ghz only.

you can't just increase vcore hoping for higher clock, do keep in mind, increasing vcore more likely will kill your processor in second if the cooling not good enough... 60C on load, considered hot, 65C, cautious level while anything above 75C is risky, i mean... not recommended for daily usage, that's why, aftermarket cooler is a must icon_idea.gif

you just said that you ran stabled @2.6GHz, run CPU stress test program, let it have burn-in test and see if any instability issue during this session (burn-in test)

I'm running with 2.65Ghz daily now. the temp is around 45-55 degree. i seldom play games and normally not. is there possibly on harming my processor?? i'm very scare on damaging the processor... any advice?

here's my OC database from CPU-Z
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=279237

i'm planning to get a low budget water cooling.

these is what i targetted:
ThermalTake:-
1. Aqua RX R2 UFO CPU Water Block CL-W0092
2. Aqua T.M.G 1 CL-W0072
3. Water Tank CL-W0009
4. P500 Pump CL-W0132
5. Water Tube Itube CL-W0055/9.5mm
6. Coolant 1000 CL-W0148

what do you guys think about it? is there anything cheaper and better then the item above??
my budget is around RM300-RM350. but i think those item cost me around RM400 above.

any recommendations?

little piece of advice, when you go for watercooling, get a high end... the low-end/entry-level IMO, same as high-end air-cooling which is i recommedn on those ThermalRights Cooler icon_idea.gif

firstly, are you overclock using 1:1 or memory divider, if 1:1, there's possibilities that your RAM can't go with your CPU, so that leads to reboot and reboot... IMO, you should use memory divider, try experiment with your CPU, how high your CPU can go, after that (found the highest CPU can go), then go for RAM...

i assume that u r using ddr400 divider rite?
2.6ghz wiff 1.475vcore MAYBE not enough..
ur maybe ur vdimm is not enough, coz u set a tight timing..try loosen first..use CL5

well, i think you've OC too far way. maybe it's over the voltage limit and the memory can't hold it.

Too far for your RAM, not your proc, take sniper's advice, use ram divider wink.gif

use divider 400..no need up vcore..just up ur vdim...use timing 5-5-5-15 2T...then try up ur bus speed little by little with ur current vcore..when bsod or hang appeared,u up vcore a little bit..then try back..until u reach ur limit...that how i'm doing with my proc..

EDIT :- tight is good..but u need to loosen ur ram timing 1st..to find good core speed..then when u satisfied with ur speed..u can tighten ur ram..
