Jobstreet didnt work for me either. What I did was I came up with a good cover letter and send it together with my resume to HR emails. Different cover letter for different organization/job.
You can get the emails through company websites under career/vacancy section or give them a call and ask to speak to any HR personnel.

Noted with thanks. They always tend to say they prefer PR & Singaporeans. If everyone applying is PR, how do malaysians get chances to work at SG holding work passes? LOL

Question to you: can you survive with RM2,200 in KL?

Many years ago I was earning RM3k, took up a job in SG at S$2k.

Rent $500
Meals $500
Transport $100
Phone and Internet $100

What else do you really need to spend on?

Even at $1.6k salary you save $400 per month. That is RM1,200 of savings if you want to calculate in MYR terms.
Earn RM2.2k in MY... can one save even RM500 per month?
*
Yeah its pathetic. Thats why I was still staying at my parents place. I am earning negative every month as in I need to withdraw about 100 to 200 per month to fund my spending.

So if some sg company offer me 2.2k SGD now, I should just take it?

Anywhere I can find & apply job vacancies besides jobstreet?

if you are a relatively junior level executive desperate to get into Singapore ASAP I don't think you have any other choice except Jobstreet/JobsDB or cold calling your choice companies, but if you have the patience, spend a bit more time on your profile/CV and try LinkedIn. Another useful resource would be Glassdoor.
In all instances, having a well crafted resume makes you stand out from the competition.

I got my current job from Jobstreet. laugh.gif laugh.gif
My advise is if it is free, no harm clicking.
How long do you need to "waste" by just clicking apply?
Just because it is not favorable for others, does not mean it will definitely not be favorable for you.
Getting a job now is like striking the lottery, the more inroads you make, the higher the chances that one will lead you to your destination.

Yes they do because less hassle. I contacted almost 20 employers in Singapore and most of them do prefer PR/SGporeans. Only 2 to 3 of them willing to consider me which is great because I dont need 20 offers, I only need 1.

I'm not too sure about the number of people getting PR each year but they are not fighting for the same job. There are many new vacancies every week, keep trying.

if you are getting dollar to dollar pay my advice get it , then work hard to move above ranks .

Better still you can nego a higher pay, but that also depends on your qualification & work experience.

in SG major expenses for FT are rental .

I'd qualify that statement if I were you: There are many cases out there of I-spammed-500-companies-why-don't-I-get-shortlisted type of threads out there. No harm clicking, if you paid reasonable attention to your resume....

Not only that, IINM potential employers using the SiVA database in Jobstreet have ways of tracking you. In the hypothetical scenario you spammed 30 companies and you made conflicting appointments for interview, you may have had to ditch some of those less favorable ones at the last minute. There's some karma involved in that because those companies could blacklist you in SiVA and it could affect your profile the next time you apply using Jobstreet: other potential employers could view your profile and have an unfavorable impression of you because they would know you don't honor your word.

Bottom line: IMHO you should not treat job-seeking like a lottery.

Yes... and No. Some of my FT friends they have room mates to split the cost, on average $300 per month only. I also have a few FT friends who insist want to live a "better life" in SG, went ahead and rented condo units at $3k per month with lame reasons such as "wanna make use of gym facilities... swimming pool".

On average common room is around $500-700 per month. That is roughly the same as paying your car installment if you take in as dollar-to-dollar.

I always tell my new colleagues... first few years will be a little struggle.

Get $2,000 salary, rent $500 per month.
Next year get $2,000 salary, rent still $500...
3 years later get $4,000 salary, rent still $500 laugh.gif

So suffer a bit now and enjoy later.

Hi,

Anyone have any hints in what to look out for to rent room in Singapore?
*
Landlord/landlady:

Preferably one that is amicable and reasonable. Then again, it is not easy to detect 'peculiarities' arising from prospective landlord or landlady on a meeting or two. You will just have to be vigilant and look out for telling signs of any unsavoury traits as early as possible.

Location:

Would you like a place that is accessible? Granted, it is quite convenient to move around Singapore wherever one lives but public transportation provision in the prime areas (Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh to name a few) are fantastic! Of course, do not rule out places like Bedok or Clementi for example. They are great locations too. It must be borne in mind that the nearer one's accommodation is to an MRT station, the higher the rent.

Amenities:

Best if you can find one that ia surrounded by eateries, shops and etc. I dare say most HDB flat neighborhoods will have some sort of a hub that contains the essential shops. In fact, many MRT stations have a shopping mall attached to it.
