QUOTE(oe_kintaro @ Nov 3 2015, 03:05 PM) I tried applying in SG through jobstreet and such. Not many get back to me. Is the jobs in SG very competitive? |

QUOTE(yrh0413 @ Nov 3 2015, 03:16 PM) You are not the only foreigner, and Singapore unlike yesteryears they no longer have special preference with Malaysians. But they will lowball us malaysians right. Giving us a much lower pay and overwork without OT pay...You are competing with angmoh, Philippinoes, Indonesians, Thai, PRCs. Yes securing a job in SG in recent years is very competitive. p/s: and to those who commented "u go there, ppl look down on u. oh look another malaysian accepting lowball offer"... look at the mirror and ask yourself if you are an elite. If only ego pay your bills... |

QUOTE(oe_kintaro @ Nov 3 2015, 03:18 PM) Wouldn't be able to advise you specifically regarding Singapore yet, but in general I would prefer keeping a well updated profile in LinkedIn to actually using a regular job hunting database like Jobstreet. LinkedIn ... Heard of it... Thought it is just another social media portal like Facebook. Okay... advise taken.Thanks. Will try again.I regularly receive many unsolicited requests for interview from headhunters and hiring managers just based on my LinkedIn profile alone. I don't think I've used Jobstreet for years... |

QUOTE(yrh0413 @ Nov 3 2015, 03:36 PM) How you define lowball? Fight for equal rights and get the same pay as Singaporeans? About 2 years ago, I applied for job in SG as an audit junior. They quoted me 1.6k SGD when I was earning RM2.2k.Don't forget your employer still needs to pay your foreigner levy every month to keep you with the company. And most executive positions don't get OT pay, be it locals or foreigners. Much lower pay is subjective, If you are currently earning RM5k in MY to me S$3-4k in SG is reasonable. So isnt that lowballing considering the rent in SG is about 600 assuming I stay alone in a common room? The employer damn funny whereby he said that you can survive one with this amount. if you dont smoke ciggies right. |

QUOTE(oe_kintaro @ Nov 3 2015, 03:29 PM) Jobstreet is soo..... 2004? Anywhere I can find & apply job vacancies besides jobstreet?I find it useful for screening for junior/entry level staff but somehow headhunters and referrals from personal networks are usually more effective for experienced people, at least based on my personal experience. |

QUOTE(Dagger69 @ Nov 3 2015, 03:42 PM) Jobstreet didnt work for me either. What I did was I came up with a good cover letter and send it together with my resume to HR emails. Different cover letter for different organization/job. Noted with thanks. They always tend to say they prefer PR & Singaporeans. If everyone applying is PR, how do malaysians get chances to work at SG holding work passes? LOLYou can get the emails through company websites under career/vacancy section or give them a call and ask to speak to any HR personnel. |

QUOTE(yrh0413 @ Nov 3 2015, 03:46 PM) Question to you: can you survive with RM2,200 in KL? Yeah its pathetic. Thats why I was still staying at my parents place. I am earning negative every month as in I need to withdraw about 100 to 200 per month to fund my spending. Many years ago I was earning RM3k, took up a job in SG at S$2k. Rent $500 Meals $500 Transport $100 Phone and Internet $100 What else do you really need to spend on? Even at $1.6k salary you save $400 per month. That is RM1,200 of savings if you want to calculate in MYR terms. Earn RM2.2k in MY... can one save even RM500 per month? So if some sg company offer me 2.2k SGD now, I should just take it? |

QUOTE(oe_kintaro @ Nov 3 2015, 03:53 PM) if you are a relatively junior level executive desperate to get into Singapore ASAP I don't think you have any other choice except Jobstreet/JobsDB or cold calling your choice companies, but if you have the patience, spend a bit more time on your profile/CV and try LinkedIn. Another useful resource would be Glassdoor. Alright thanks. In all instances, having a well crafted resume makes you stand out from the competition. |

QUOTE(crazy25kid @ Nov 3 2015, 03:57 PM) I got my current job from Jobstreet. i see. aightMy advise is if it is free, no harm clicking. How long do you need to "waste" by just clicking apply? Just because it is not favorable for others, does not mean it will definitely not be favorable for you. Getting a job now is like striking the lottery, the more inroads you make, the higher the chances that one will lead you to your destination. |

QUOTE(Dagger69 @ Nov 3 2015, 04:03 PM) Yes they do because less hassle. I contacted almost 20 employers in Singapore and most of them do prefer PR/SGporeans. Only 2 to 3 of them willing to consider me which is great because I dont need 20 offers, I only need 1. alright. will do. Are you a PR now? Any of you guys planning to be a SIngaporean?I'm not too sure about the number of people getting PR each year but they are not fighting for the same job. There are many new vacancies every week, keep trying. |

QUOTE(yrh0413 @ Nov 3 2015, 04:44 PM) Yes... and No. Some of my FT friends they have room mates to split the cost, on average $300 per month only. I also have a few FT friends who insist want to live a "better life" in SG, went ahead and rented condo units at $3k per month with lame reasons such as "wanna make use of gym facilities... swimming pool". Hey thanks for motivation. It somehow lifting my mood. Been trying to leave my company that underpays me and worked me like a dog.On average common room is around $500-700 per month. That is roughly the same as paying your car installment if you take in as dollar-to-dollar. I always tell my new colleagues... first few years will be a little struggle. Get $2,000 salary, rent $500 per month. Next year get $2,000 salary, rent still $500... 3 years later get $4,000 salary, rent still $500 So suffer a bit now and enjoy later. |

PR & Singaporeans have this medishield life insurance that you cannot opt out right. It is a compulsory thing right?
Does it mean that they dont need to buy any hospitalisation & medical insurance from private companies such as Prudential, Great Eastern and etc? |

QUOTE(titarium @ Nov 5 2015, 09:32 AM) Is deducted from your CPF (EPF) , it covers a minimum plan you can opt to upgrade but not out. So if my friend has an existing plan in life insurance and hospitalisation & medical insurance? So he should just drop the H&S plan from Prudential and max out the Medishield premium?Suggestion is max out the premium on this insurance plan , then only think of buying another one in SG . |

QUOTE(titarium @ Nov 5 2015, 10:05 AM) Just continue if can afford , the catch in these insurance is about age you won't be able to get the cheaper tier if you buy later and alot of clause maybe excluded situation such as : Ì think H&S plan is fixed as in depends on age. For instance, age 20-30 fixed price, 30-40 fixed price. So even if drop and buy again also no difference in cost. Subject to underwriting.- Border line issue with blood pressure -> Heart related and stroke have limited or coverage with loading - Border line issue with Blood sugar -> Sugar related treatment not cover eg: Diabetes - Unhealthy BMI - > medical re-examination , healt reassessment loading will incur - Smokers -> Lungs & heart may not be cover or limited coverage - Drinkers -> liver & kidney related wouldn't or limited be covered idea is take up young when you are healthy But one mistake he made is that he bought life insurance coverage about 100k and premium per year is about SGD3k. He said he is very tight month to month. Asking me whether should he drop the current one and buy those cheapper term insurance. What you guys think? |
