We're not looking down, it's just natural that people who prefer SG to have opinions that are sided towards SG
Just like how those people who moved back to MY have good opinions of MY and bad ones of SG

Just that when you complain about things like small house, can't afford car, nothing to do on weekends...what is the real thing you are complaining about?
Smart people can look beyond the words to understand what the real message is

Sorry lor not sgd10k a month.

QUOTE(titarium @ Oct 30 2015, 10:48 AM)
Those who easily accustomed with the life style in SG mainly are :

1) Started Young - right after graduate -> adaptability still very high , expectation still low
or
2) With very good experience and profile , get a Dollar to Dollar package , or an expat package -> Then your life style definite no change
or
3) Internal transfer (usually) this group's transition have very little effect on the life style. Company culture the same , initial settling down supported by company

Else have to bare abit( 6 month - 1 year to settle down ) eventually most of foreigners in SG made it through.

Those who return basically because of :
- Freedom due to $ (limited spending , room sharing )
- Home sick

So for those who have been working for years have to really weight your career path back in home country vs capable generating savings in SGD.

But there's also others who came because of other factor :
- second generation (education and growth)
- safety ( human/physical , food*)
- Unsatisfied in home country due to lifestyle , gov administration, culture etc..

*you'll be amazed some PRC (even rich ones) , feels is more secure to consume meals in SG than back in China
*
Yep agree with u.

For weekends (or even weekday nights), there is actually a lot to do in SG.
You just need to thicken the skin of your face.
There are A LOT of interest groups (cycling, board games, badminton...you name it, you can probably find it) out there on the internet.
Find one which you is within your budget and interested in then participate.
You will then have plans on how to spend your free time and also make new friends.
You are now in a new place...you will have to do something new before you get used to it.

Frm jalan syed putra, connect to federal hwy all the way to that big bridge LDP.. usual route, why there's a mid-day jam on a weekend?
Few reasons that I know will never be fixed, due to typical Msia anyhow planning and boleh attitude..

1) There's a Chinese school directly on jalan syed putra.. caused a choke due to cars double/triple PARKED on the highway itself... I spent a good 30 minutes not move a few centimetres.. really wanted to go down and smack all the brainless, inconsiderate parents on their heads.. mad.gif
2) Typical jam on mid-valley/old klang road exit. Just too much traffic and interconnections.
3) Stalled bus near exit to LDP.. causing a massive back-up of traffic.

All these combined lead to me sitting in car for almost 2 hours.. on a weekend. On weekday? this is normal.. 2 hours commute to city, 2 hours back. 4 hours of your life gone.

For me is small house but for my wife it's an upgrade !

Car very individual ... wife felt ok cause need not to drive anymore , what's more important no need to serve car loan !!

So depending on individual , different people have a different background so expectation also different, growing up in a city vs a small town will have a different perception on SG lifestyle.

after encountering every single traffic lights per 100m of roads, I not sure whether you still like to drive in SG.

You really that bad luck? Traffic lights all turn red whenever you approach them? laugh.gif

I grew up in KL, stayed there for 20+ years before I went to Singapore to work.
Bought a car only after working in SG for 7 years (have been driving in KL for more than 5 years), my take:

1. KL is still a livelier place to work and enjoy life. Night life, the food, the entertainment... Singapore pales in comparison.
2. Driving wise, Singapore roads are well labeled and buildings/car parks are consistent in addresses and naming. Punch in postcode on Waze or Google Maps and you get there accurately. In KL... all I can say is doh.gif
3. Less traffic in SG, nicer cars, less breakdowns... traffic wardens are so effective that you get something stuck at your wipers within 15 minutes if you park next to solid white lines, double lines etc.
4. Speed limit of 70 or 90kmph... yup this is really slow but eventually you will get used to it. For a small island I don't see a need for higher speed limit to be honest.
5. I don't miss KL's double parking, people parking right in front of my gate, uneven roads and loads of potholes, illegal U-turn everywhere and anywhere. Yup some folks say this is "freedom" doh.gif

Me.

Whole KL branch shut down. Out of 20+ workers, only four got saved. I was one of the 'unlucky' fellow..

Gone from living like a king on SG package in KL to living below market rate in SG.. life sucks, but the experience/exposure Im getting now is better and more marketable. Stay a few more months then jump jump, increase the salary again..

Yup agree.

Before I settle down, most of my weekends are spent in City Square/KSL mall.
Go in in the morning, have a movie marathon for S$3 per ticket, then go massage, nicer meals, karaoke...
sometimes just go East Coast or Ubin for jogs or cycling if I feel like being healthy.

Honestly whatever you have been doing in KL, you pretty much can do the same when you are in SG.
Only difference is you have to start making new friends to share the same past-time as you.

Most of my friends who went back to Malaysia, 99% they are just home sick.
Friends all in KL, they feel lonely here.

They are truths for sure, but why do they have small houses and no car?
The real truth is the answer to that rclxms.gif
Yupp the same applies to Singaporeans as well, not all Singaporeans are rich just like not all Malaysians have big house and nice car

Pros and cons, if they're happy in MY there's nothing wrong
To be honest it's possible that I may move back to MY in the future too, if I can't earn enough for a good life in SG

Simple life after work go home in mrt, 2 sgd can reach already then swipe phone inside, walk 10 mins then reach home, lift direct to the door, no need to clean so much.

Now have to drive a freaking big car home. Pay car park pay erp, reach home see the garden so many fallen leaves then nea say breeding mosquito, inside liao still need to climb 2 flight of stairs to bedroom. Weekend more jia lat whole house u have to clean. U do a small renovation like add one more room paint here paint there, 300k cannot run.

For those having questions on CP21, here is my experience:

If your company knows that you are leaving Malaysia, they will withhold your last month pay and issue CP21 for you to submit to IRB with your last income tax return for the current year. Make sure that all your past income tax return has been submitted too. IRB may then ask for audit. (The IRB tax officer said she wanted to audit me, but in the end I didn't get any audit letter lol). After they are satisfied, they will issue you with a tax clearance letter, of which you will give a copy to your ex-company's HR so that they can release your last pay. With this tax clearance, you don't need to worry about filling Malaysia income tax until one day when you return to work in Malaysia.

If you did not do the whole process above, then you will need to file Malaysian income tax every year (put as nil).

Fyi, the legal way is actually the first one above.

How long did it take you to receive the tax clearance letter from LHDN?
