Hi all, for anyone of you that work in accounting firms in Singapore, Big 4 or mid-tier.

Are you required to work OT during Chinese New Year? Cos I will be starting my work in January in an accounting firm in Singapore and was thinking whether I go back to my hometown during that few days of holidays in Singapore.
*
Yes. Firms will allow u one day leave only. (either 1 day before or 1 day after).

Hey all. I am thinking on an offer to work in SG from Feb next year onward.
Company is MNC and I think career progression should be good, will never know for real until I start there.

For those working in SG, do you think 4 - 4.5k enough for a 24 yrs old, single and not the type to really splurge, as I want to save some money to bring back Malaysia.

Plus, will be working in Shenton Way, where to stay ya?

Thank you!
*
quite good leh. 4 to 4.5k. smile.gif

Wow. thanks for this advice. While saying dodgy, I have places like Bukit bintang cheap flats and those in Jelatek which has Myanmar Expats screaming down the block etc. I know these are some of my friends working Pet but still can stay there.

Can you be so kind to name me 3 good areas  which are like SS2, PJ or wangsa maju area? Real clean, close to MRT and convenient smile.gif

4-4.5k is good enough already. If you dun splurge I think U will definitely save more than 1k. Which company in Shenton Way? I will be working around there too. Still finding place to stay while waiting for EP to be approved.

toa payoh, tiong bahru, commonwealth, queenstown are decent places. smile.gif

Haha I find there is a group of malaysians in singspore who no longer confess or admit to be malaysian, and are so insulted when ppl refer to them as msians. Everything malaysia does is wrong.

Why are people so embarrassed by being born msian?

Strange.

Other than the country is governed by a bunch of hooligans-wannabe monkeys and donkeys that obviously lack intellectual properties, I don't see why people are so embarrassed .. I really don't. I also wanna know why.  hmm.gif
*
I dunno le. Feels like got they got self esteem issues lidat. I mean.. these people ah.. I feel that if u migrate for better future.. sure thts ur personal choice la. But why are u so ashamed of your past that you were born and raise and educated in msia? Shouldn't u be proud that u managed to rise above your upbringing?

QUOTE(Fiona Chin @ Dec 26 2014, 02:53 PM)
Common leh. There is also a bunch of SG people migrated overseas and criticizing SG. They do that to strengthen their decision to migrate is perfectly right lo, by tell themselves or others the original country is lousy over and over again, so they won't have a moment of regret if things don't happen the way they want now. Syukur masih better than old times.
*
Haha ya but I dun see the other ppl lidat leh. Indons or Philippines are immensely proud of their own country despite not being too far off from msia economically and in terms of corruption. Really quite sad looking at these ppl.

Haha I think girls sure complain one.

Kenot wear miniskirt scare get rape
Kenot do this scare get caught
Kenot drive atnnight scare got mat rempit

All the ladies I know become so paranoid that the world is out to get them xD (of course there is some sliver of truth in it la.. no smoke without fire ma)

So yeah.. no money difference is gonna make any difference for quite a few of the newly minted singaporeans

For me personally. A 40 to 50pc raise in dollar terms.

1 sgd to 1.50 rm or 1 sgd to 2.7 x 1.5 rm? The latter job exists in Malaysia?
*
Not in finance at least (unless on expat package)

Im talking more of 1sgd to 1.5rm (which probably seems more realistic)

Are they separate jobs? If yes then yup. Only taxed on ur respective country's income. But u may have a tax residency issue with ur sg income tht may mean the max tax rate of 20/22pc instead of the scaled rate.

Separate jobs from 2 different companies. I thought the 20 or 22 % is for foreigners only? PR are always tax residents?
*
Nope. tax residency is separate from your citizenship/PR. A tax resident is generally someone who resides >183 days in a country (at least in the laws of Msia and Singapore (iinm))

Generally, the resident status of an individual is determined by the number of days he is physically present or exercises employment in Singapore. The individual will be regarded as a tax resident if he is in Singapore for 183 days or more in a calendar year. The calendar year refers to the period from 1st Jan to 31st Dec of the preceding year.
"

SO if ur less than 183 days in singapore, u'll be a non resident.

NON-RESIDENT (LESS THAN 183 DAYS)
If you are a non resident:

You will only be taxed on all income earned in Singapore.
You will not be entitled to tax reliefs.
Your employment income will be taxed at a flat rate of 15% or the progressive resident rates, whichever gives rise to a higher tax amount.
Director's fee will be taxed at the prevailing rate of 20%.
You are required to fill in Form M (Income Tax Return for Non-Resident)

QUOTE(LiangZhuge @ Mar 6 2015, 10:35 PM)
For those of you guys and girls wondering about transferring money from CIMB SG --> MY, I tested this just now and the transfer is instantaneous and it's free. Rates might be a bit lower.

(as of 6.3.2015)
Google (1sgd=?Myr) exchange rate - 2.66
Arcade website exchange rate - 2.645
CIMB SG listed exchange rate - 2.6388

I tried transfer $10 from CIMB SG to 3rd party CIMB(MY) as I didn't link both my CIMB SG and CIMB MY accounts. CIMB MY account received RM 26.39

Another venue to transfer rather than moving cash through the border smile.gif.
Didn't try RM to SGD which defeats the purpose smile.gif

Anyone tried Maybank ? inputs welcome.

===
Prerequisite

1. CIMB MY account to receive the RM funds (note CIMB MY charge RM15 yearly for debit / ATM card sad.gif, other charges may apply )
2. CIMB SG account to send the SGD funds (only 2 CIMB in SG - Raffles & Orchard - ATM machine is virtually non existence except for the 2 bank location )
3. $$$$ to transfer.
*
I got a maybank, regionlink account

Charges $15, and takes about 2 BD to clear. So seems like CIMB is alot better.
