As long as your wife does not deliver in Singapore then you are safe. Why? Read below sentence from MOM and understand the first statement, it used "or". Singapore cannot restrict you from pregnant since you are legally married. The last sentence say applies even after work permit is expired, cancelled or revoked, cannot be they disallowed you to get pregnant after your WP expired and went back to Malaysia. So the main point is cannot deliver in Singapore.

"Not get pregnant or deliver a child in Singapore during the validity of their Work Permit unless they are already married to a Singapore citizen or permanent resident with the approval of MOM. This applies even after their Work Permit is expired, cancelled or revoked."

Your wife don't need to cancel the WP, she can still work and entitled to 8 weeks paid and 4 weeks unpaid Maternity leave as long as she is covered under Employment Act and worked more than 3 months (and does not fall into the "not covered" category"). Below extracted from MOM and refer to below URL for maternity leave:

Singapore Maternity Leave

Who is covered by the Act?

You are covered if you are an employee working under a contract of service with an employer.

It covers local and foreign employees.

An employee can be employed in the following terms:

Full-time
Part-time
Temporary

However, you are not covered if you are employed as a:

Manager or executive with monthly basic salary of more than $4,500.
Seafarer.
Domestic worker.
Statutory board employee or civil servant.

If you still not convince, then write to MOM and confirm. Their response quite fast. It serves as black and white for future arguments.

technically, a wp holder who got pregnant would have breached the terms and conditions she'd signed and acknowledged when MOM issued her the permit. maternity leave does not apply to her anymore.

my advise is not to go straight to MOM, have a good discussion with her employers and work out a good exit strategy.

The red one is self explanatory and you interpret it wrongly. Its read not to get pregnant in Singapore or deliver a child in Singapore, while you holding the WP I assume, not the way you read it. There are people who up level from WP to EP, then to PR or SC, they don't want ex-WP SC babies?

If you get pregnant you committed wrong doing for your WP, mean no more WP for you. So how do you continue to work and get 8 weeks paid maternity leave if you are working illegally with the WP withdrawn?

Only for WP lah. WP is (in theory) for all the maids and construction workers and waitresses, ah gong want you come here do the shit jobs that sinkie don't want to do then gtfo back to whichever 3rd world country you come from. Anything that would help your inferior uneducated smelly genes contaminate the sinkie gene pool like getting pregnant or seducing a sinkie = gtfo.

Applies to men too, they oso not allowed to merrid sinkie or PR what.

ok then....have to ask her to go on leave without pay for few months then... one of the many advantages in holding WP.... to add in info, we actually commute to(fro) sg and johor for work...and she work as office staff...not those construction or domestic worker (ie maid)...

no leniency for malaysian girl who's on WP too i guess...Thanks guys...that pretty sums it up...should add in extra info on this at the main page where female WP holder not allowed to get pregnant even if she plan to deliver in Malaysia...

Who says so? A guy who holds a work permit and gets a Singaporean pregnant, gets his work permit cancelled and banned from entering Singapore.

Read the news here: Not easy to marry a work permit holder

Better check with her employer, not every employer is willing to let their staff go on leave for months. Employer still needs to pay for your foreign worker levy and your wife is not entitled for any maternity leave. Some employers rather let you off and hire another new staff.

no restriction on which day you can drive in.

only thing is the car is not suppose to 'stay' in Singapore for more than 18 hours, each day.

Is the "not more than 18 hours a day" an official restriction, or? Do they really track?

Yes it is an official restriction. In many / some people's experience, they don't enforce it within reason e.g. few days at a time. However past don't enforce doesn't mean they can't suddenly tomorrow decide to enforce, so at your own risk.

Each MY car entitles 10 VEP-free days per calendar year.

If you have 3 cars and you commute to work daily, that means you can drive in for 1.5 months?

yes there is a loophole. It is free to drive into SG from 5pm to 2am daily, so all you need to do is to find a night shift job. laugh.gif

heck no jam at all too.

Most B&B cars have depreciation of S$1k/month thereabouts, exclude your maintenance/petrol/car park fees.
If you really need a car why not?

For any work pass holders, max 18 hours per day only.

Link: LTA website

However, any person who holds a Work Pass issued by Ministry of Manpower, who is also not a resident of Singapore, may drive a foreign-registered vehicle in Singapore only if ALL these conditions are met:

He is the registered owner of the vehicle.
He resides outside Singapore.
He has a valid insurance certificate and road tax to use the vehicle on Singapore roads.
The vehicle is kept or used outside Singapore for a total period of 6 hours or more every day.
The vehicle has an Autopass Card to validate its entry/ exit at Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints and to pay for VEP/ toll charges.
